We had 123 for our oldest kids, and I think it must have disintegrated. Replacements for Sandra Boynton are justified, although I agree with the pp who said the older ones are better.

And, yes, Shirley Hughes is fabulous for the slightly older kids. I'm looking for our copy of "An Evening With Alphie" to read to my 2yo. I'm sure we have others. It's weird for me to read the library copies, though, as I remember reading them as a kid, and to my younger siblings, and the library tends to have the N. American versions, so some of the language is "wrong" to me! We like to buy copies when we go back home to visit, or have them sent as gifts. For the older kids, either to read aloud or for those reading chapter books, I recommend the "My Naughty Little Sister" series. Great for exploring sibling dynamics!

We got some great deals on Alfie books by ordering used through Amazon (or it might have been ABEbooks.com). We paid $0.99 for a book so it made the shipping from the UK affordable and I think they shipped in the same package so we got several for something like $7. And thanks for the suggestion for the older books! I haven't investigated her other stuff too much yet.

We adore most Boynton here - I love 1,2,3 - "One is good for a quiet walk, two is good for a quiet talk, three is nice for having tea...etc"

And we have one Boynton song that has made it into our bedtime playlist -
"Go to sleep my zoodle,
my fibbelty-fitsy-foo.
Go to sleep sweet noodle,
it's time to say 'achoo'.

The chickens in the bathtub
the closet full of sheep
the sneakers in the freezer
are all drifting off to sleep

Go to sleep my zoodle,
my fibbelty-fitsy-foo.
Go to sleep sweet noodle,
the owl is whispering 'moo'."

Far and away our favorite family books are the Alfie and Annie Rose books by Shirley Hughes. Gorgeous drawings and lovely, cozy stories. We almost named dd Annie Rose.

as i read this, my kids are listening to sandra boynton. we have 2 cds and we all love them. even over and over....

lol.gif. I'm afraid to hear the actual tune - I've made up my own since I didn't like the way the music sounded when I tapped it out on the piano (the notes in the book, I mean) wink.gif
