To answer my own question I found this on NHL.com.

In case anyone else is interested....
Simon Re-Signs with Islanders Article from NHL.COM

QUOTE
Simon had 27 points (10-17) and 75 penalty minutes in 67 games last season. The base salary in the deal is $475,000 but Simon will get another $325,000 in a games played bonus he will easily reach. He can also earn more in performance bonuses.

While I'm not Webby I can help you out there Lax - If a player retires during a contract after age 35 and its not due to a major injury the contract counts against the cap. It was part of the last players agreement. Garth tried to apply for the injury thing since he had the knee problems at the end of the 05-06 season but was denied.

You are correct aries. 0098.gif

It was done so teams wouldnt sign ridiculous long term contracts with aging stars.

If the player signs the contract AFTER age 35 that applies.

If the player signs the contract BEFORE age 35 it does not apply.

The cap hit for Yashin in 2010/11 is absolutely BRUTAL at 4.7m.
