But, in an unexpected turn of events, all eyes are on Uniondale, N.Y., as the Nassau Coliseum is now the focus of an intense bidding war, with four viable partnerships making a run at this potentially lucrative market. The stakes are high, the competition fierce, and underlying stories are many. At stake is one of the most valuable pieces of business up for grabs in recent years.

Apri. 24, 2002: Shawn Bates #17 of the New York Islanders celebrates his winning goal against the Toronto Maple Leafs during game four of the Stanley Cup playoffs at the Nassau Coliseum in Hempstead, New York. The Islanders won 4-3.

its sad, but this moment will forever be the Islander signature. dynasty years???who remembers that? thats ice ages ago, sort of like 1940 chants...

yep, the rangers will be winning their second cup since 1994..and the Islanders can always masterbates.

seriously, starting to wonder the only way this team has any form of respectability is if they do move off the island..it will be sad..but atleast we won't be laughingstocks anymore.

I feel bad for the young fans. This is their biggest moment. I got to witness four Cups, a magical run in 1975.

HOW THEY HAVE FANS BORN AFTER '90 IS BEYOND ME
PROBABLY MORE AN ANTI-RANGER THING
THAN BEING PROUD OF WHAT THIS ORGANIZATION
HAS GIVEN THEM IN THE LAST 23 YEARS

A PENALTY SHOT AS A GREATEST MOMENT
NOT EVEN A SERIES CLINCHING MOMENT

You know what's really sad. Those young guys who's best moment in Isles history is that lonely penalty shot will now say "Geez, even that's been 10 years".

Shawn Bates scoring a penalty shot goal to win a game in a series we wound up losing.
The same series where Kenny Jonsson players some of his best and most memorable hockey.

A series that isn't even in the top ten of this franchises history but somehow, this current regime and culture has used it as something more relevant than it should be.

I feel bad for the fans who weren't born to remember the battles with Buffalo, Boston, Montreal and the Rags. 18's memorable goal in clinching game and Chico's heroics to come back from being down 3 games to none against the Penguins.
My god there are so many GREAT moments in our history.

For almost 2 decades we made history in the NHL.
We've been history for the last 2.

Showing zero tolerance for koolaiders and SnoWang apologists since 2007.
This lifelong Islanders fan is sick and tired of pointing out the obvious to the oblivious.

I long for the day when I can show up to Charles Wang's wake with a shovel and
patiently wait for everyone to pay their respects so I can pay mine by burying the bastid.

Depot I totally agree.

While the Bates penalty shot goal is memorable............I wouldn't put it on the top ten list of most memorable Isles moments.
