But, in an unexpected turn of events, all eyes are on Uniondale, N.Y., as the Nassau Coliseum is now the focus of an intense bidding war, with four viable partnerships making a run at this potentially lucrative market. The stakes are high, the competition fierce, and underlying stories are many. At stake is one of the most valuable pieces of business up for grabs in recent years.

Just to give you some background, I'm a junior in high school. I write about the Islanders, among other sports, for my school sports paper, The Friar Scoreboard.

These past two years, I've been given the opportunity to cover games from the press box with full media credentials and interview players. I owe the organization so much for this great opportunity. The experience I am gaining is irreplaceable.

Anyway, for my journalism class we've been given the task of starting our own blogs. Naturally, I chose to write about the Isles. We are only required to enter two blogs a quarter, yet I'm going to try my best to do much more.

In addition to short entries that I write specifically for the blog, I'll be sure to post my articles that will appear in the Scoreboard.

I am not asking for any favors, I just want to let you guys know about it. I'm hoping the perspective of a 16 year old will change things up a little bit for the readers.

Really hoping the link works. If I get any crap at school for putting the link up I'll let you know. Don't see why I wouldn't be able to share my work.

Thanks for reading.

Thank you very much. I spoke to my PR guy the other day and he said he is going to help me get more interviews this year so the article lasts. In the past I had covered a single game, and the article was outdated by the time the paper was published. I definately don't want to overstep my bounds though, you know?

I'm really hoping to interview Hamonic and Montoya amongst others.

I just had 95% of a story about Kabanov playing roller hockey done, I hit the wrong button and poof there went the blog comp03.gif comp03.gif comp03.gif comp03.gif comp03.gif

That's what I get for not saving facesmash.gif

I'll re-do it in the morning. Not enough patience right now lol

Danny boy. You a respectful kid, (credit your parents), you know the game and you're far more mature in your years.
Stick with it, stick with your gut instincts and never second guess yourself.
Add more opinions to your facts and show off some of your personality too.
That is what will separate you form everyone else.
Good read. Good luck with this, I'll be checking in.

Showing zero tolerance for koolaiders and SnoWang apologists since 2007.
This lifelong Islanders fan is sick and tired of pointing out the obvious to the oblivious.

I long for the day when I can show up to Charles Wang's wake with a shovel and
patiently wait for everyone to pay their respects so I can pay mine by burying the bastid.

Thank you! Its actually a lot tougher to go from writing articles to blogging, IMO. When you write an article, you need to be completely professional and unbiased. With blogging you can add opinions, like you said. Need to get used to being able to do that lol.

I really appreciate the kind words. Means a lot to me.

I know this is a bit late but I like it. Good stuff and keep it up.

About 7 or 8 years ago I got asked to be an Islander blogger for a hockey website that wound up going under. This was also before the Islander Blog Box. I basically did game previews and recaps and I'd mix in some opinionated stuff in between. I had a lot of fun doing it and I got some great feedback. After that site went under, I tried doing it on my own for a bit but I didn't keep up with it and didn't have the time. I wish I had kept up with it.

So, if I can offer you any advice, I'd say three things:

1) Keep your stuff original. Too many bloggers repeat and rehash the same crap over and over again. It becomes boring. You have a refreshing and unique viewpoint to bring to your articles being that you're younger. You're still at an age where these hockey players are larger than life. I miss the days when I was 16 and I looked up to all of these players. That Kabanov story you wrote was awesome. I miss looking up to players like that. When I was 16 if Roberto Luongo would have come played roller hockey with me I would have fainted. Now I'm 28 and I'm older than most of the team. Also you're knowledgeable about the Islanders and hockey in general. Use them both to your advantage.

2) Be unbiased. There are Islander bloggers out there who like to paint rosy pictures about the team come hell or high water. When you finish in last place every year, people see right through that. If the team sucks, say so.

3) Keep up with it. Don't do what I did and only do it when you have time. If you want to blog and gain a following, understand that your readers want to read something new every day. Make sure your heart is into it and you'll do great.

Hope any of this helps. Keep up the good work bud.

Snowy, just saw this, but thanks for your input. Sorry it took me so long to respond.

I interviewed Matt Martin a few weeks ago, and we put together a video for MSG Varsity. If you have an account, click the link below and you can watch.
