Tomorrow will be the first time rehabbing goaltender Rick DiPietro practices with the team, Scott Gordon said.

While the full group will not be on the ice at IceWorks in Syosset tomorrow--since the Islanders will arrive in New York late after tonight's game--DiPietro's participation tomorrow will be viewed as the next significant step in his rehabilitation.

"Everything has gone according to plan," Gordon said before Monday's game against Toronto. "This isn't anything unexpected. We'd be disappointed if he wasn't on the ice soon."

DiPietro, who began skating in August for the first time since suffering a season-ending knee injury last year, has taken gradual steps adherent to a strict rehab protocol throughout the past two months. This development indicates he is progressing steadily toward his return.

After DiPietro practices with the team, he will eventually head to Bridgeport for a conditioning stint, during which he'll likely play 2-5 games before making his 2009-2010 debut.

Let's just wish the man luck.

dontknow.gif

I've made as much wisecracks about him as anyone but I'm thrilled to read that
he will play a few games at Bridgeport. Should have gone this route last year.

I want to believe that he's finally gotten his head straight and the youthful stubborn
nature has been curtailed by experience.

oh, I do wish him luck...I really, really do...seriously...because if the Islanders do this again, and they will, with Rick, he's done..all jokes aside...talking about a man's health here.

and like I4cups has been saying all along, there is noway a goalie can survive with 30 shots a game, or 60...

I wouldn't put rick in until the islanders defense did a major overhaul.. lmao.gif (like thats going to happen anytime soon).

happy to hear that he is going to the bridgeport for a few...better late than never.. dontknow.gif

I was shocked to read that the Isles won despite a 40 shot margin. Hey, defense? Why don't you do some freaking defending?

I'm glad to see that Ricky is getting closer. I'll be sad to see Biron go because his helmet is amazing (best mask in the NHL today), although his play is something to be desired. Let's go Ricky. The Isles do play better when he is in net, though tonight they can thank Roli's ability to stand on his head.

Bad enough to let up 40 shots, but a 40 shot MARGIN is, to quote the great Kasey Kasem, f**ing ponderous.

Hoping RD has healed & can resume his career & stay healthy for a long stretch.

Hopefully Schremp takes LOTS of practice shots on Ricky because those five in front of him are actually playing basketball.

Getting a starting goalie (like him or not, he has the chance to regain the top spot and left as a starter, so be it) back is a good thing. I've been as tough on The Rick as anybody, but from what I've read he is motivated and wants to come back and EARN his starting role again.

Can't fault the guy for that, the proof will be in the play.

And with Roloson playing the way he is, Rick can be eased back in instead of dumping him in and crossing your fingers.

I don't know why, but I get this feeling he's gonna stay healthy and play well. Hell, he's gotta know this is his last chance.

wandering is one issue...but I'm more curious to see how his penchant for moving the puck will affect the current squad...and or the coach's game plan. Will he be encouraged to make those plays or not? Will it help or hurt? As far as I know it's usually been regarded as big attribute of his game...but I have seen it cause some serious confusion as well.
