He's in the KHL until next year. Earliest we get to see him is 2012-2013.

As tsharaf said, he's not even a possibility until 2012-13. Will be interesting to see where he fits in because I highly doubt he'll jump straight to the NHL. May be better prospects ahead of him.

I agree snowman. By the time he can play in the NHL this team will probably have passed him by. He was a gamble when drafted and they took a chance they could get him in NA, but not the case. That's ok. He will probably end up here some time and if he can't be ignored and must play it will only be a good thing. It's great to be in a position now that we don't have to hope that all our prospects make it. Being selective will be a nice thing going forward.

The Islanders Axis of Evil: Wang, Snow, DiPietro.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Yep. And from all the reports I've read he hasn't exactly set the KHL or even the World Jrs on fire. Hopefully he shows some signs of life and progress this season, finishes his contract and comes over here next season.

No need to rush him. He can start the 2012-13 season on the Bridge, adjust to the more physical game with the smaller ice and see where he goes from there. There is also nothing wrong with packaging him in a deal for something we need.

Good to have prospects like this. Even is he fails in this org he might be able to help the team in a trade for a better piece later.

Wasnt this the same Petrov that Snow said he wasnt sure how many years were left on his contract in Russia"no more than 3" .....I think this will be year 4 or 5 when its all done...Snow wasnt sure, guess that he missed that fact in his due dilegence investigations.

The issue wasn't Snow. Man, you just love to heap on. The issue was/is his KHL contract. Very often the KHL tries to put into contracts an elongation clause where teams can try to hold onto players after the length of the contract expires. It is ridiculous, but Petrov wouldn't be the only young Russian to have such a poison pill and it is one of the many reasons why nhl teams are loath to draft Russians highly. ONe reason they do it is to hold young talent. The other is to try to get NHL teams to pay transfer fees, but it is why the nhl is having so many troubles setting up agreements with the khl. The khl won't stop this practice.

I forget the player who left Nashville while still under contract to the PReds, but the KHL claimed they could do it because of just this fact, despite him having an nhl deal with one more year in place. The Preds didn't fight it because they weren't that ticked about losing the kid if my memory serves correctly.

The player was Radulov. It was ridiculous KHL signed him when he still had nhl contract.

Yep. Thanks for the name. The KHL claimed he was still under their contract when he played in the nhl because of the "elongation" clause. They are constantly claiming contracts have another 2-5 years on them.

He's still an asset on some level (which can be debated on and on in terms of value).
An asset we took a chance on and drafted and until he makes a North American camp
and impresses/depresses enough to force a decision, he'll only be an asset.

We'll just see next season in Bridgeport.

I don't think he'll be in NA next year. His contract in Russia is at least another year.

Don't look now, Kirill Petrov has 9 pts (6,3) in 11 games with Ak Bars Kazan. 18th in KHL scoring.
