I think he's too skilled to be left out of the lineup. He's one of our best skaters, he's got a hard accurate wrist shot and he's awesome on breakaways. I'd like to see him on a scoring line and power play unit for a few games to see how he does. You realize that Sim got PP time against the leafs? It sucks that Tamby & Comeau are platooning for that 4th line winger spot for the time being. I'd like to see them both get some more time but at who's expense? Sim? He is doing better this year, a good pest and checker (but keep him away from PP and scoring lines). Jackman? No we need his physical precence. I guess Goro's whole idea is to earn more ice time.

Earning time is as it should be. I'm sure that goal he scored will give him some time in the lineup, and it's Tambellini to stay there. We look at the his stats and say he should be in the lineup, but I'm sure the coaching staff is looking at far more than his scoresheet line.

yes of course they are looking at far more then scoresheet. all i ask is how valuable is it to have the one of the very best shootout people in the nhl in our lineup considering we almost went to another shootout last night again?

i think shootout stats is probably one of the only places where u can simply look at the stats, there are no other variables.

But you don't base whether a player plays just because we might end in a shootout. There's 65 minutes of team hockey that has to be played first and that same person should be a contributor. I'm surprised more that a guy with 7 goals in 15 games has not secured a steady spot in the lineup than his ability to score a shootout goal.

well i agree with the fact that he hasnt gotten in the lineup given his production, it is not like he is a minus 12. but it is not like u would be benching a world beater, there are several that are available to be benched.

But again, if there are other motivating factors, like trying to get through to him and help him reach his potential then i get it. if the object is to put on the ice our best team, then i am not seeing what gordon is.

and why dont you base it on whether we go to a shootout, i mean obviously the guy cant be a huge liability in other areas, but we have gone to what 6 or 7 shootouts this year already... i mean it has become a part of the game these days. especially for us since we cant hold a 3rd period lead if our lives depended on it.

I definitely think it should be one of the aspects of the game that one assesses on whether to play him.

it is not like he is scoring at a 20% clip and you can just as easily put in park or hunter or satan or yashin... those guys are interchangable in the shootout.

I'm not disagreeing about his shootout success. I'm just saying cant put too much weight in an aspect that MAY happen 25% of the time, when he has to play a regular shift for 65 minutes 100% of the time.

Tambellini has speed, has added hitting to his game, and has been potting pucks. He deserves to play. Seems like Tamb and Comeau rub Gordon the wrong way so they will always be on the fence. Too bad for them. Everyone expects Comeau top contribute and he seldom gets the chance to play. Maybe he is an A hole.

While he will initiate contact, Tambellini is not a punishing hitter. I would like to see him work the boards, try to add a different JT(John Tonelli) to his skill set. We saw a hint of that some games ago, we need more.

I'd love to see that as well, but I'm not sure we ever will from Tamby on a consistent basis. He isn't as big as JT was compared to the rest of the league at the time. I don't know that ST can take a consistent dose of the corners physically, but still I don't care. One of the jobs of a winger is to go into corners and dig. Bossy did it without being overly physical and won some pucks in his career. IF he can do it, everyone should.
