Reinhart will be given a chance to make the big club I'm sure. Let's remember that Alex Pietrangelo played his 9 game trial with St. Louis as an 18 year old AND 19 year old before becoming a full-time NHLer at age 20. I'm not opposed to the Isles doing the same with this kid. Wasn't my first choice, but I like this kid's potential. Best of luck to Griffin!

Kids not ready for the NHL.
But he's ready for the NYI to do to him what they've done to Bailey, Okposo and Nino. It's funny hearing some fans on other sites today. We drafted 7 defensemen and the general consensus was that we "restocked" the defensive cupboard. Let me remind us all (not on this board)...that LAST year... Pedan and Mayfield, that kid Russo and another canadian kid were used by isles media as a "restocking the cupboard" excuse. Again...player development. The majority of these guys are 2 years away from making a play physically/mentally for the NHL squad and even then they shouldn't be expected to produce offensively and in defensive responsibilities. It's rare that one or 2 make it. We tend to overrate andy macdonald. Hamonic should have a solid year this year. he's been the lone breakout. de haan? let down. This franchise has alot of issues but not as many as our fans do. The ones who are susceptible to the gullible false sense of hope this time of year between draft and training camp. Each year....prior to the December slide to reality...I will remind everyone of why we need to stop torturing ourselves. -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() Showing zero tolerance for koolaiders and SnoWang apologists since 2007. They will rue the day that they had a chance to draft Grigorenko and went with Reinhart instead. And what a typical Garf move using the whole draft on d-men, unf#@kungbelievable,

I see what you mean but Watch the draft again, see what the commentators say, he doesnt play physical at all, big body doesnt play big though, has offensive upside though...didnt look very happy to be drafted by Isles (either did his parents), and he didnt get interviewed afterwards...has he been interviewed by Isles site yet? |

I already don't like this kid seemed unhappy that the islanders drafted him at four, meanwhile he was predicted on a lot of mock drafts to go in the 9 - 11 range...the isles show confidence in this kid and take him early and he doesn't even have the class to do an interview.... I agree that not picking Grink or even Dumba is gonna come back to haunt us

The prob is we keep drafting 4th or 5th..Wish this franchise would just tank and pick in the top 3..And I think we shouldve picked Forseberg even though a lot of other teams didnt.
Reinhart is the next Scott Scissions |

Griffin Reinhart NHL Draft Profile
2012 Scouting Reports | 19 Jun 2012 10. RD Griffin Reinhart Edmonton (WHL) DOB: Jan. 24/94 | Shoots: R | Height: 6.04 | Weight: 207lbs TSR Midterm Rank: 15 Griffin Reinhart 300x225 Griffin Reinhart NHL Draft Profile Reinhart is an intriguing defenseman who finished his season on a high note, checking in at #10 on TSRs final rankings. Reinharts game is heavily influenced by his size and strength as his long wingspan and agility makes him a difficult player to beat in one-on-one situations. Reinharts anticipation and hockey sense is top notch as the 18-year-old displays good decision making and jumps into the play at good opportunities. Reinhart is a very capable offensive player and had an impressive 12 goals and 36 points in 58 games this season. His shot is definitely an asset and something that projects well to the NHL level as he should be capable of at least developing into a consistent 30+ point producer from the back end with the potential for more. One of the most enticing aspects of his offensive game is that Reinhart generally is able to jump into the rush without sacrificing too much defensively. Combined with his size and skating ability, Reinharts versatility and ability to play a number of roles will go a long way with NHL teams on draft day. There were some ebs and flows to Reinharts season and some of the concerns were centered around Reinharts ability to log big minutes throughout the season. He started the season out slower than most would have liked and appeared to fade late in games as his ice time continued to increase. After the Christmas break, Reinhart displayed more consistency but it will be interesting to see how he reacts next season as he looks to be the #1 defenseman in Edmonton with the departure of Mark Pysyk. Overall, Reinhart is one of the more intriguing players in this draft, but hes certainly far from polished. His size, skating ability, and raw physical tools are all things to like, but his consistency and lack of physical dominance are warts that are difficult to overlook at times. Despite the concerns, Reinhart has more than justified his spot in the Top 10 of the draft. His high-end upside projects as a very solid top pairing defenseman, but it will be interesting to see if hes able to overcome some of his areas of weakness as he develops. Pros: Size & Strength, Accurate shot, All around game. Cons: Compete Level, Willingness to engage physically, Consistency -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Keeper of All Things Westfall 2010-11 Eddie Westfall Islanders Road Trip Crew has logged 0,000 miles this season! |

Here you go I4C, thanks Westfall for the scouting report:
Pros: Size & Strength, Accurate shot, All around game. Cons: Compete Level, Willingness to engage physically, Consistency Another project, hopefully having a dad who played in the NHL will help, another project projected to go later in the draft, who seems to be unhappy Isles took him " I am shocked" aka "I am disappointed" |

Great reason to love Taveras even more.......he came here and embraced the place.
Reinhart........I'll give him time to get over the disappointment......but he sure as hell better get over it. |

Am I missing something? I've watched the kid do like five interviews so I'm not sure where that "not doing interviews" thing was coming from. Second, if you actually watched the interviews (which I did and clearly some of you didn't), he knows NOTHING about the Islanders. He knows of Tavares and nobody else. He knows nothing about Long Island. And one can only imagine the few things he's heard about this organization, which I'm sure were probably all negative. Try doing some investigating before making inaccurate claims. Also, if anyone has chosen to follow the kid on Twitter, here is something he tweeted yesterday:
Let's remember this is a teenager we're talking about here. This kid wasn't in the spotlight from a young age like Tavares. Comparing him to Tavares is beyond silly. Leave this kid alone, let him play hockey. Stop worrying about his interviews. If he needs 2-3 years of development time in juniors and the AHL then so be it. -------------------- NY Islanders Hockey: Proud of the Orange and Blue

I'd let the kid develop 4 or 5 years........be patient and it will pay off. |

Can he go to a practice first before he's considered a bust? I mean, he's a kid who has no idea what to expect and some here are burying the kid before you even SEE him. How many have actually watched the kid play in a game?
I know we're the laughingstock of the league, but the draft is just a crap shoot anyway. Give the kid a chance and see what happens. I expect the negative BS for most of what we do, but not here. There is no history and if you believe everything you read then fine. But if you wake up and are actually in the real world, you know that all of the BS prognosticating is just that. BS. The only one who knows how he feels about being drafted by us is him. I would like to think that he is thrilled with being chosen #4 overall and is now in the league. I don't listen to any of the other dribble. I'll reserve my opinion for when I actually see the kid play. -------------------- THE RIFLE

last year it was...
let the kid play, give him a shot... We all saw how they "handled" Nino yes??? We should all never forget how they handled Bailey, Okposo etc. Stop with the "it's on the player" to perform and short memory koolaid sipping. 5 years. 5 years of Garth friggen Snow calling the shots for Wang. I remember many saying we should give him 5 years. -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() Showing zero tolerance for koolaiders and SnoWang apologists since 2007.
