Thank God the Brutal era is over!!!
Now watch him turn over the puck in overtime of game 7 ala his buddy, Campoli.
Jackace - June 25, 2011 05:29 PM (GMT)
prelude to another trade ACQUIRING a solid blueliner?
:disgraced:
What was I thinking.
Webb20 - June 25, 2011 05:53 PM (GMT)
See ya Bruno, hope they give you a morning cooking show in St. Pete. Boy Tampa is becoming ex-Isles south.
Does this mean we are signing Radek for at least another season?
Overspeed - June 25, 2011 06:29 PM (GMT)
Yzerman must be getting comfortable in his GM seat...and probably needs a new chef for his corporate meetings. Goodbye to a great guy and terrible hockey player. The Brutal Gervais Era is over!
Gravel - June 25, 2011 06:37 PM (GMT)
This off season just keeps getting better and better. Lets hope the real season keeps on the same path.
stevedepot - June 25, 2011 07:21 PM (GMT)
The last 24 hours have been heaven.
Sheer heaven.
Love everything we've done.
I cannot believe someone wanted Gervais.
Steve Yzerman no less. Then again, it's for future considerations so we may just wind up getting a wok or a can opener.
A good deal for us none the less.

Okay, the Strome thing was easy. However, I GUARANTEED to everyone that Bruno would not be an Islander past this season. The Bruno prediction is the one I'm the most fired up about. I tried to find the thread but I couldn't. Anyway, Bruno is not an NHL player. I am so glad that Stevey Y will waste a roster spot on this guy. What a genius. I can FINALLY TAKE THIS TEAM SERIOUSLY AGAIN!!!!!! LET THE CELEBRATION BEGIN!!!!
rst033 - June 25, 2011 08:04 PM (GMT)
bruno gervais is now bruno ger-gone
Mr Katic and MR Kohn will get every opportunity to stick with the team-and I kinda like what I saw in Katic
i would say Martinek is done-no way he comes at all

Katic and Kohn both have zero chance of making the team. Not a shot in hell.

Watch this bastard become a Norris Trophy candidate next year.

He won't. And let me just say, that I've never been more confident of anything in my entire life. He's terrible.
As Islander fans we need to let go of this though that any player we let go is going to be a superstar elsewhere. He's not Bryan McCabe. He's not Todd Bertuzzi.
Jeff Tambellini left and he still sucks. Bruno will follow down that path and remain terrible.

You are kidding, right. This is a team that only got past the Crapitals because Sean Bergenheim did his best Marty St Louis immitation in round 2 and then disappearing again as usual.
This team has Bergie, Nate Thompson, Rollie and now Brutal on their team. Which one of them is the ONLY one you'd want on yours?
If TB wants to take 3 members of our trash brigade, that's fine with me. Let's deal them Gillies as well. Perhaps we'll get a bag of pucks as future considerations.
Brutal will be nothing more than a 7th/8th dman for them. Nothing more. FRankly, I'm surprised Stevie Y didn't just wait until he hit RFA/UFA market. Does anyone think we weren't going to let him get to the market? Show him no one wants him and then sign him for the league minimum. Stevie Y could have gotten him for NO considerations.

Someone on Botta's blog had the following comment that had me in stitches:
"I have a question regarding the Bruno trade. It’s listed as for “Future Considerations”. Does that mean when Tampa considers this trade in the future that Bruno isn’t an NHLer, we have to take him back?"

No backsie's indeed. Close the book on him.
Ok, here's my opportunity to get a Honeymooners reference in...
If Bruno was to be brought back as future considerations,
he'd be the Chef of the future.

Hey, maybe StevieY wanted those few days of exclusive negotiating rights with Bruno before the demand from a plethora of teams come July 1st. So he paid for it with future considerations.

================
BYE BYE .... :santa:
stevedepot - June 26, 2011 09:11 PM (GMT)
Just got out of the pool with a big ole welt to the side of the head.
Son an I were rough housing it.
I lost.
Little light headed but checking in here and yes indeed, I was not dreaming.
Bruno is gone. Something tells me I'll be opening this thread and rereading it for many days ahead.
Feels good.
Our defense just got better.
Addition by subtraction.
rifleman22 - June 27, 2011 05:30 PM (GMT)
I liked the guy for about the first fifteen minutes he was here.
Now, don't let the door hit you in the a$$, Brutal.
And I have a nice recipe for crab cakes if you need it for your cooking show down there.

btw, Julia Child isn't the only one in heaven right now.
All Islanders fans are.

with all this pre and post hatred (and I include myself here) of brutal gervais..I sure hope this doesn't come back to bite us. The guy was well liked in the locker room besides being a good community guy..and he did have some fine moments in his Islander career..bruno you will be missed by all islander fans.. :)

No he didn't. He hasn't played well in an Isles uni since he and Campoli did a great immitation of prospects with a future in the Sabres playoff series. since that series, both sucked.
There is no way this bites us. Even if he scores a goal that eliminates us from playoff contention next year, it won't. We won't be in playoff contention if we have him next season.
THank god he's gone. I'll take Wishart over him 10x and twice on Sundays.
I won't miss the pizza delivery boy at all. He's such a turnover machine he probably brought the pizzas to the wrong house.

The real mystery here is why on earth did Tampa take him? What could they possibly have seen that even remotely interested them.
I can only surmise that they essentially figure they get an NHL-seasoned depth d-man for emergencies...for basically nothing.
It's like waivers...without the salary discount

Bolts have around 9 million in cap space and still need to sign Stamkos
and fill out a few other rosters spots.
My guess is his experience like you mentioned and how little he'll be paid.
Or maybe Yzerman lost a bet.

:blueribbon: POST OF THE DAY.
I couldn't agree more. In my mind, he is the WORST d-man is Islander history - bar none.

My guess is that since Thompson, Bergie, and Roloson worked out for the Bolts, why not go to the well again. Dan Lacroix obviously convinced Yzerman to give this a shot. There are very few times one of my teams can lose a player and when the opposing coach is talking that player up, I actually get giddy. Usually I'd want to vomit. But reading Guy Boucher's comments about Bruno... I'm excited. Those guys really have no idea what they're in for.
OlTimeHockey - June 28, 2011 07:00 AM (GMT)
This will NEVER bite us.
I will say there is a chance he gets better, plays like he did in the Q and give some solid offense, adding decent D but that would mean he gets REALLY well coached, recommits himself like Thompson did, puts on muscle and grows up (loses the doofy attitude).
If it happens, it's not something that would EVER happen here and without a trade and his reinventing himself.
So good riddance and I don't care if he's a Norris finalist in two years.
