Title: Evgeni Nabokov - #20
Description: #1 Goaltender
stevedepot - January 20, 2011 09:31 PM (GMT)
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=350270I heard that the money being kicked around is just under 600k and would come out to about 250k for remainder of season.
Think he clears waivers?
3POTI - January 20, 2011 11:21 PM (GMT)
if garth is a smart man..he pick him up then trade him to the wings...
stevedepot - January 21, 2011 06:18 PM (GMT)
Poti, we can claim him but if we did, we could either keep him or trade him to any other team except the Red Wings. (per waver rules)
We have 2nd crack because of the standings.
So if Devs don't put in a claim and we do...doesn't matter how many other teams put in a claim,
we would be the lowest team with claim.
Big nothing though...I doubt he comes here. Garth already got his draft picks via trade.
Jackace - January 21, 2011 06:24 PM (GMT)
newsdayWouldn't that mean they admit rick is done for the year? Cant see it happening.
THEDRIVE4FIVE - January 21, 2011 06:25 PM (GMT)
Holy crap I thought we actually did it. Don't scare me like that.

Haha no problem.
stevedepot - January 21, 2011 06:33 PM (GMT)
since it's just a rumor for now, I merged the nabakov topics.
would be great if we claimed him and traded him for even a draft pick but I doubt it.

That would be too smart. And it would probably bring too much focus on DPs injury and the way the team is going to great lengths to conceal how bad it is for Garth to make this move.

Forget the injury stuff. It would be too smart and there isn't a set of brains in Uniondale that has proven they have the ability to think outside the box.

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=350469Here's an outline of the circumstances. Of the Nabakov situation..
Webb20 - January 22, 2011 12:53 PM (GMT)
Yea, that really cleared things up. :P

I'd love to see us claim him if for nothing else that Poulin and or Lawson can remain in Bridgeport to continue to develop. I especially don't want to rush Poulin. He's looked good so far, but there is no need to rush him and he does have a tendency to start flopping a bit out of control.
I don't want him to turn into a Steve Penny flash in the pan. Let the kid develop.

yeah, I tend to agree with you on that one..he does look good..and its nice when the team wins infront of him. Though, I think it makes sense for him to develop, even butch was saying that last night..it seems so logical..I wonder if he was claimed by the islanders, if he would even report..But, still put in a claim.
stevedepot - January 22, 2011 02:52 PM (GMT)
Would be embarrassing if Nabakov refused to play for us (that's IF we did put in a claim).
Garth would then blame the building.

I think the islanders will put in a claim though. I really do..
stevedepot - January 22, 2011 05:07 PM (GMT)
Nabakov claimed by Islanders!
He's an Islander if he chooses to report.
per Darren Dreger.
3POTI - January 22, 2011 05:12 PM (GMT)
I think he will report. And he will be backing up rick sun, and playing the next game..he will lead us to the playoffs..and then rick takes over.
stevedepot - January 22, 2011 05:18 PM (GMT)
since he'd have to be passed through waivers again to be traded....I wouldn't doubt Garth trying to trade him at deadline to team closest to us in standings who's also closest to making playoff push since they'd stand a better chance at winning their waiver claim.
With Lawson out now and sending Poulin back down while adding Nabakov doesn't translate into us spending that much more money either.
Kid's NHL salary compared to pro rated salary of Nabakov is very close.
bonzy18 - January 22, 2011 05:22 PM (GMT)
I read on Botta's blog that he will report since he is going to be auditioning for an NHL contract next season. I sure hope he does and then he plays well and we win the next 20 games in a row and then and we make the playoffs....and then I woke up. :D
3POTI - January 22, 2011 05:27 PM (GMT)
his agent says he will report to anyone that picked him up..auditioning for next season..
RichPilon#47 - January 22, 2011 05:29 PM (GMT)
Do you think the Isles can deal him to DET for a Zetterburg or a Datsuyk. :dontknow:
BritBlueNOrange - January 22, 2011 05:36 PM (GMT)
OK I'm confused... he has a NO-MOVE clause and cannot be put on waivers without his permission...
so, does that mean we can trade him, I've read that we can't without being put BACK on waivers... is that right??
Can someone confirm wether we can trade him in a normal manner?
3POTI - January 22, 2011 05:36 PM (GMT)
I like this for the team..the players now have someone they can rely on..an allstar goalie that will win some games for them..and poulin can continue to develop..this is good for the players to feel good about themselves.
3POTI - January 22, 2011 05:39 PM (GMT)
garth won't be able to trade him..because he won't pass through waivers..someone would pick him up.

OK I think I understand...
Under the WAIVER CLAIM RULES, he would have to be put on waivers prior to being traded. Stupid rules but there we are...
So Garth can technically do it two ways. the way Stevedepot said or... he is on the island for the rest of the season - for the price of the league minimum salary.
Then after the season ends, Snow could trade his negotiating rights to another team prior to July 1 for a conditional draft pick - say a 2nd if he signs with the team acquiring his rights or a 6th or 7th rounder if he doesn't

Well, its a no brainer, not sure what Lou Lamoriello is thinking, but he should have done exactly what Garth has done.
Don't get me wrong, its a smart move, but something teams below us should have done...
Its one of them rare oppotunities where you MIGHT get something for nothing, especially if he plays well.

If he's with KO
stevedepot - January 22, 2011 06:21 PM (GMT)
All that needs to be said right now is thank you to the GM.
I'm no fan, but we needed help.
he traded away the 1 healthy goalie we had for prospect that's a turnover machine
down at the Bridge and his "he'll surprise you" goalie (Lawson) is injured...
but at the end of the day...
Poulin goes back to develop some more while we have a healthy
NHL capable goalie up here to at least give the players some stability.
Let's see if he reports.
He should or he'd shoot himself in the foot for NHL contract next year.
OlTimeHockey - January 22, 2011 06:33 PM (GMT)
On our end: We bought time for Poulin and keep DP out of the net as much as we have to. Lawson will be there to be our first response to influenza.
On Detroit's end: DRW sign him and know he'll be exposed to waivers from the bottom non playoff teams first. Colorado and San Jose had claims out for him and were looking and Detroit prevented them from being able to sign with a competitor.
Snow responded as well as any ape with a square peg could; Holland showed what a great GM can do. Again.
Webb20 - January 22, 2011 06:36 PM (GMT)
Oh he'll report. We are his only avenue back into the NHL right now.
gdprof27 - January 22, 2011 06:49 PM (GMT)
So how much money did we save by trading Rollie and acquiring Nabokov?
Not sure if it really matters but I am curious.
bonzy18 - January 22, 2011 07:49 PM (GMT)
Just read he isn't going to report via tsn and espn. I hope we suspend him so he doesn't get paid...what an ass hat. It's the building right? LOL
rst033 - January 22, 2011 07:58 PM (GMT)
just read he won't report
what the Isles should do is just waive him again and wash their hands of it. reason is you want to be player friendly, just move on and be done with it.
as far as Poulin goes he looks ready to me! what's else does he need to do in the minors anyway?
The Islanders are better off
