stonecold...I've learned one very major lesson in life..especially the life of a hockey fan of the New York Islanders...that is to NEVER TRUST EKLUND OR HOCKEYBUZZ!! Sorry dude, just needed to get that off my chest. :P

but if we did sign him..I wouldn't really complain..

well considering the source...then I guess he winds up with someone other than said teams..

haven't we learned our lesson with ek yet?

I would, but whatever.

At least we'd score more.

dragoneye - July 4, 2009 02:11 AM (GMT)
I'd be happy if we never signed or drafted a Russian again. And BTW, I'm 1/4 Russian.

I'd take Ovechkin, IMO.

Or Kovalchuk.

Or Malkin.

Or Datsyuk.

But no, they can't play.

Those guys are good but if they played for us I am sure they would float and play only when inspired by some unknown source of inspiration.

Doesn't this belong on the in the rumors & bloggers section? If it is on hockeybuzz, then it isn't happening.

If it did happen, I'd be ok with a 1 year deal. I think he'd be motivated to produce in a 1 year deal and we could spin him off for a 1st rounder at the deadline. Go get him Garth!

Why on earth would anyone believe what these clowns say? They know nothing.

Mulefan - July 4, 2009 04:15 PM (GMT)
IMO Kovalev would be a good signing. But we still need to shore up the defense and toughness and I'm not talking minor league toughness.

Kovalev would be a terrible signing. he is done. h would come here and pout , sulk and float his way around the team. no thanks.

I have to agree. I have watched Kovalev glide around way too much. I think he would be a very bad influence on such a young team. Does anyone else see him being a mentor to the young players? He just seems like a selfish player on the ice. I could be wrong, but that is the impression I get.

WHATS WITH ALL THE HE'S A GOOD INFLUENCE
A GOOD MENTOR :blah: :blah: :blah:

Isles5 - July 5, 2009 04:06 AM (GMT)
not sure why people would rather see jon sim and nate thompson take up spots here than to take a chance on kovalev. kovalev will be a bad influence on the kids?! much better to surround them with the jeff tambellinis of the world and our kids are sure to develop into studs. was kovalev a bad influence two years ago when he lead the habs to the 1 seed?

Yes, why try a quality hockey player when "hockey players" like Freddie Meyers, Nate Thompsons, Jon Sims can take up space ...

Jon Sim is going to have to set the world on fire in training camp and exhibition to make a return to this line up. And that's not saying much.

You can say what you want about Kovalev, but his best days are behind him. He just doesn't give the effort every game, never did. You can watch games where his name is not even mentioned. Gives me bad memories of Kvasha and Yashin. I'd rather have a guy that busts his butt night in night out that can muck it up rather than have Kovalev. That's how I feel...not a member of his fan club.

Freddy Meyer is more valuable to the team than the other guys you mentioned. If that means anything. . .
