In desperate need for more raw Qualirium to fuel the experments in producing Qualirium-based bombs (codenamed Project Laurus), Merxenne central command sent a team of four squires to Wallas Volcas in southern Merxenne on Feyl 26, 640. Along the way, the group ambushed a Zarackian caravan as part of a training exercise. Finally arriving at Wallas Volcas, however, presented a more difficult challenge: along with the Qualirium deposits were hundreds of dragons. The team manages to escape, but not before Berd manages to steal a dragon egg.

After returning back to Nermille Fort, another team is assembled for a second task on Noyl 3, 640: preparing the port city of Zanmoll, in southern Merxenne, for a large-scale invasion of the Zarackian continent. The city, under reconstruction after a devastating Zarackian attack, had ground to a hault when Zarackian special forces kidnapped the family of the mayor of the city and held them hostage. The team successfully retrieved the family and killed the ransomers, allowing the reconstruction of the city to recommence and the invasion of southern Zarack to come closer to fruition.

Before the team had even left the base for Zanmoll, however, "Merciless" Marguerrs was already preparing for his next great push in the War: Xyloclover. On Noyl 7, 640, mustering all of the soldiers he could (including those fresh from the Zanmoll mission), the Merxenne army swept towards the island nation. Met with fierce Zarackian resistance, the Merxenne war machine was forced to retreat after hours of bloody fighting. Even the great Marguerrs fell, though great mystery surrounded his death. It was up to President Nuhill and the nine Heavenly Knights to elect a new Seraphim before the Invasion of southern Zarack could commense.
