Hero Point Credit System 1.0

Welcome to Identity Crisis 2009. The following is a system currently being developed and tested for this particular forum board. It will allow registered characters to earn Hero Point Credit for each role play thread that is completed, for each heroic or mischievous act of good or evil, and for other miscellaneous activities under the role playing section(s). Hero Point Credits (HPC) will determine your character's popularity in the public eye. Because a hero or villain is exactly how the public perceives them, you can gain or lose HPC by undertaking acts of good (raising your HPC) or evil (lowering your HPC). The goal of heroes and heroine is to raise their HPC in order to gain positive popularity (becoming famous) amongst the people they protect. The goal of villains is to lower their HPC in order to gain negative popularity (becoming infamous) in order to become more feared and revered. Saving one individual, a handful (five or ten), or many (twenty and above) will earn different quantities of HPC. In contrast to this concept, harming the city, harming an individual, or harming a group of civilians will cause a character to lose different quantities of HPC.

Earning Hero Point Credits

Each character will begin with ±300 HPC according to the character's alignment. If your character is a villain, you will begin with -300 HPC. If your character is a hero or heroine, you will begin with +300 HPC. Please stipulate in a SEPARATE POST in the SAME THREAD after your application has been posted what your alignment is (GOOD or EVIL).

As mentioned above, you can earn hero credits by performing a number of daring acts of good (or evil) when the opportunity arises. Unfortunately, these opportunities will only appear when the administrator or moderators decide they will (i.e. accidents, armed robberies, furthermore), meaning that they may happen very often, or not often at all. You may be thinking, "then how am I going to become (in)famous if the staff on the forum is being unproductive?" The answer, fortunately, is very clear and simple.

Registered members may assume the role of heroes OR villains. Player controlled (PC) heroes and villains may do battle with each other in order to achieve different goals (i.e. Good Guy protects civilians from Bad Guy – the victor will receive the greater reward). In these player versus player (PVP) conflicts, both parties will be awarded positive or negative HPC because they make appearances in the public eye. However, the victor will receive a larger reward for overcoming the greater obstacle.

Lastly, HPC can be earned by ordinary role playing. When you complete one role play thread (alone or with a partner), you may request a positive or negative reward. However, the thread must consist of at least ten posts made by the individual requesting the reward and each post must be comprised of two ample paragraphs (at least eight sentences in length) or more. The reward for finishing one of these ten-post role playing threads (often referred to as character development plots) is 100 HPC. For every thousand HPC your character has, you may request an additional 100 HPC for each character development plot (provided the length is ample) (i.e. 1000-1900 HPC merits up to 200 HPC, 2000-2900 HPC merits up to 300 HPC). The member requesting this reward can ask for it to be a positive or negative reward.

When requesting an HPC reward for role playing, please use the following template.

Thread Name: The title of your role play thread.
Thread Location: The forum in which it is located in (I.e. New Troy Borough).
URL: A direct link to the role play thread (i.e. click).
Reward Requested: ±100 HPC (pick + or -).

Scale of Hero Point Credits

The following gives a brief example of how many credits can be earned from particular events that take place across the forum board at random chance.

Saving or Harming 1 Individual: ±100 HPC

Saving or Harming 2-5 Individuals: ±200-500 HPC

Saving or Harming 6-10 Individuals: ±600-1000 HPC

Interrupting or Inducing Mischievous Behaviour (i.e. a robbery): ±1200 HPC

Interrupting or Inducing a Citywide Catastrophe (i.e. nuclear bomb): ±3000 HPC

Protecting or Destroying Public or Personal Property (i.e. vehicles, surrounding buildings): ±500-3000 HPC

The above list is only an example and brief guideline. If you have more suggestions, please do not hesitate to post in the Suggestions and Complaints forum. Additionally, just because only the above are listed does not mean you cannot expect to encounter different scenarios. Be prepared to face anything.

Lastly, if one of the above is to take place (i.e. "Interrupting or Inducing Mischievous Behaviour (i.e. a robbery)") but the short "event" is not very difficult or challenging to overcome, the HPC earned may be significantly lower than what is mentioned above.

Where Do You Stand On The Scale?

Remember that when you carry different quantities of HPC, it can mean various things. A character with very low positive HPC or very high negative HPC will not be very renown or popular. On the contrary, characters possessing very high positive HPC or very low negative HPC will most probably be easy to sight from a distance. Because of this, characters with extremely high HPC or extremely low HPC are larger targets for confrontation. The following chart gives a very general idea of how much credit is associated with each social standing.

±500: You are not popular and seldom know about your existence.

±1000: You have made some appearances but still, not very well-known.

±1500: You have made some appearances and word has started to spread.

±2000: You have made some appearances and word has gone around about you.

±3000: You have made quite a few appearances and people have talked about your presence.

±5000: You have made quite a few appearances and many people are aware of your presence.

±7000: You have made quite a few appearances and a lot of people know about your actions.

±10000: You have made many appearances and a lot of people talk and know about your actions.

±15000: You have made many appearances and a lot of people admire or revere and talk about your presence.

±20000: You have made many appearances and a lot of people admire or revere and talk about your actions.

±30000: You have made countless appearances and the entire city is aware of your actions and presence.

±40000: You have made countless appearances and the entire city admires or reveres you and your actions.

±50000: You have made countless appearances and even certain other parts of the world are aware of your presence and actions.

Continuity and Conflict

Certain characters (superheroes or super villains) have existed for years prior to the time in which Identity Crisis takes place in, such as Jay Garrick, Alan Scott, and other old characters. Because of their appearances in the past, they have become well-renown and although very few in number in the present days, because of their remarkable past histories, they will be acknowledged immediately upon approval of their applications. These character applications will not be judged as easily as other ordinary applications and may be refused if they do not meet the absolute standards put forward by the application template.

However, if approved, these characters (whether they be superheroes or super villains) will begin with a remarkable ±7500 HPC, giving them immediate positive or negative status in the present day world. Please note that this special offer is only available to CANON CHARACTERS. This special bonus is awarded to members by myself, believing that you will portray the character well and participate as an active member. If, however, you fail to remain active, your character will be placed on pending removal if you are absent for 7 days or longer without first notifying forum members by posting your temporarily leave in the lounge.

Lastly, it will be determined by the administrator whether or not your character passes as a true, veteran individual. If you believe that your character meets that requirement when the administrator disagrees, please speak directly with them through private message or another forum of instant messaging in order to conclude the dispute. If you are able to defend your case, your application may be revisited. I am aware that this may be a complicated process, but if anybody was able to choose to begin with ±7500 HPC, I am certain most, if not, all newly registered members would do so. So, please be aware that unless you can defend your application, it will undoubtedly be refused as a continuous canon character.

If you have questions, concerns, or wish to know if a certain character you are applying for reaches continuous canon requirements, please do not hesitate to post in the help desk forum.

Strange Occurrences

Furthermore, strange occurrences are events that take place in a role playing thread between two or more members. These events will be posted by the account, Strange Occurrences. These peculiar events may take place at random or may be called for by sending a private message to the administrator or active moderating team. In order to request for an appearance by the event NPC, please send a private message to Strange Occurrences and allow for 2-3 days before receiving an answer. If there is no answer, do not hesitate to send a message to other active moderators or the administrator for further assistance.

Your message should include a brief summary of the thread in which the event NPC will make an appearance in and in addition to the summary, please suggest what you want to happen (i.e. explosion, armed robbery, civilian in trouble, etc). Please do not make it too specific before the event NPC may enter (i.e. do not restrict the moderator to specific details, saying things such as "the villain is a bald man in his middle age holding a 6mm machine gun and holds one child hostage). Let the moderators decide items to that extent and detail.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to post in the help desk forum.

Cleaning at the End of Each Month

In order to keep active heroes and villains popular and inactive ones out of sight, at the end of each month, 20% of the HPC belonging to all characters will be removed in order to prevent inactive members from prospering. If you are active and consistently role playing, twenty percent will not be very difficult for you to recover from. When a character reaches 0 HPC, nobody will be aware of their presence or actions anymore (i.e. they have forgotten about them and moved along).
