It was another average, mundane day at the Daily Planet. The day had soon become night and now, it was time for Clark to change into his caped costume. The superhero climbed to the very top of the newspaper building and watched the moving city of Metropolis from above the scenes. The urban setting was decorated by millions of brilliant lights and activity in the busy city was, as usual, booming. Clark was poised on top of the concrete tower and looked down on the city and its many inhabitants. He was clothed in his usual black attire: straight black jeans over his black suave shoes, a black trench coat that flapped in the turbulent winds on top of a black t-shirt with which a pentagon was carved in white with the letter "S" imprinted on its center, and to polish off his new appearance, his dark hair was combed back and was brushed by the cold winds as they passed him by. Clark listened to his surroundings with his improved hearing, carefully watching for any suspicious movements below or strange noises that might suggest that there had been trouble in the vicinity. With his hearing, the black-clad vigilante could hear just about everything. All was calm and peaceful, or at least they seemed to be that way for some period of time. However, peace did not last in the state that did not sleep.

"Patrol car 1-9, 211 in progress," a voice announced on the speaker inside of a police vehicle in the distance.

Clark did not waste a moment once he had heard the broadcast and blurred away in an instant. He started by raising both of his arms to embrace his surroundings and then jumped off of the towering Daily Planet building, diving towards the pavement at frightening speeds. The old Clark Kent would have feared what would happen next but since his younger age, the superhero had overcome his fear and was ready to land on the busy street. Only an instant before touching down, Clark returned to a normal standing orientation and when both feet had touched the ground, the caped crusader raced away in the direction from where the sound had come from. Only moments after his departure from the Daily Planet, Clark arrived at the scene of the crime. He observed the setting from above the roads on top of a neighbouring building in the vicinity. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary until his hearing picked up voices coming from inside the small store below. His X-ray vision determined that several individuals carrying weapons had intruded in the convenient stand and had several people being held as hostages. This was not an easy situation for the Metropolis police department to deal with, so Clark thought that saving the civilians inside should be something only he could accomplish with the greatest effectiveness.

The busy streets of this busy city were in peace and Oliver Queen, now dressed in his usual Green Arrow attire, which consisted of his leather vest and hood along with his leather pants and shoes all under the colour of green with lightly painted yellow strips to keep it lively was out in patrol. Standing on top of a building close by, he heard the loud sirens of a police Vehicle and he knew that it wasn’t something to be happy of. As the police car hurriedly parked in front of a convenient store in such a manner, Oliver could tell that trouble was present within the store that stood before the black Metropolis PD vehicle. In the shadows, Oliver could barely see anything but instead, he decided to take action. With his advanced Queen Industries technology, his intercom piece was able to hack into the police channel.

Obtaining information, Oliver quickly disabled the hacking system as he immediately constructed a plan. From what he had obtained, several people were held hostages as they were dictated by several other people who seemed to be robbing the place. When he heard that the suggested thieves were armed, he didn’t find this strange at all. Instead, it was normal. Yet the situation has changed for him. Hostages were of priority and he needed to be in action. From where he could stand, he looked to the building just in front of him where the convenient store lay situated on the ground floor of the building. From there, his plan began to take effect. Firing a tethered line from the building to the opposite building, he transformed his bow into a grappling device in which he used the tethered line to ‘swing’ into action. As he landed in surprise just in front of the store, his right hand played its magic and whipped out his cross bow in which through accurate precision, he fired an immobilising dart towards the shoulder of one of the thieves whilst he deliberately aimed for the chest of an another, unleashing yet another dart in hopes to disable yet another adversary.

Just before the black-clad superhero decided to jump in and stop the crime from taking place, he noticed that somebody had already appeared on the scene and was taking care of the deed. After examining the hooded vigilante closer in more detail, Clark discovered that it was Oliver in the guise of Green Arrow who was responsible for intervening. The two criminals attacked by the bow-wielding bandit had succumbed to defeat, but several other armed men surrounded the emerald archer and were ready to shoot at him. This, however, was where Clark stepped in to interfere with their operation. When the criminals had fired at Oliver from behind, Clark used his impressive speed to place himself in front of the gunfire and allowed the metal to press against his impenetrable skin. Since he possessed astounding invulnerability, the bullets which hit him had not hurt him and Clark remained unharmed. Now, the black-clad superhero was standing between Green Arrow and his many opponents with a stern appearance on his countenance. Once he had stopped moving, his trench coat had flapped in the winds produced from traveling at high velocities, coming to a stop when he ceased to move. The criminals could tell that they were now in danger because not only were they forced to fight Green Arrow, but The Blur as well.

"Give it up," The Blur demanded, hoping that they would not try to put up a fight. However, they seemed to be just as stubborn as any other ordinary criminal entourage. They fired away at Clark, hoping that they could injure the man of steel with their conventional weapons. Lights started to fly when they fired away at the costumed crime-fighter, but no harm was done to Clark as he could not be harmed by the primitive weapons that Earth offered. When they refused to stop, Clark used his heat vision to close off the openings in their firearms to prevent the bullets from escaping when the trigger had been pulled. There were only three of them remaining and they all seemed to want to surrender after they had been rendered defenseless, but their ring leader did not want to accept defeat or so it seemed. Instead, he revealed to the two caped crusaders a larger caliber weapon that was concealed under the cover of his long coat. The weapon fired at a quick pace and had struck Clark many times in the chest, but that was the last time he would be hit. When the criminal had stopped, The Blur had vanished and reappeared behind the felon. Taking him by surprise, Clark snatched the weapon out of the hands of the crook and folded it to demonstrate his relentlessness when it came to crime-fighting.

"Are you finished?" Clark asked.

His electrified darts reached its target at its designated spot since the Green Arrow had struck his adversaries in a surprising condition. As the two fell to the floor shivering in paralysis thanks to the Arrow’s advanced technology, Oliver was soon surrounded by his opponent’s comrades and they were ready to fire their weaponry at an abnormal rate. Clearly, Oliver knew that his life would never end at the hands of these crooks since he had survived the monstrosity of Lex Luthor. Just as his mind continued to flicker with idea’s, the bullets were ricocheted in every direction due to some kind of durable physical shield. Although several ideas came by as to why he continued to stand breathing, Oliver knew that there was only one possible cause. As a large gust of wind blew by, Oliver saw a familiar black-clad figure before him. It’s not a surprise to see you here… Oliver thought knowing that this nosy blur would interfere with any crime in this busy city.

The Kryptonian raised his voice, hoping that the thieves would give up and henceforth abandon their fruitless operation but clearly the leader wanted more out of this risky operation than to end up behind bars. Not only was the leader stubborn but his sub-ordinates had unleashed a furry of bullets upon the Kryptonian in hopes that it would strike him down. Unsurprisingly, the alien stood still before them whilst Oliver was unharmed. Since their resistance seemed futile, the men began to release grip of their weaponry. However, the leader continued fire false believing that he would emerge victorious. Nevertheless, the blur did its job and destroyed the weapon before the thief’s eyes in order to threaten the man. Although the Blur asked again whether the thief would give up or not, Oliver raised his crossbow loaded with another bolt, and fired another arrow towards the shoulder of the leader, hoping that it would simply fall to the ground rendering him harmless to this society. It was how the Green Arrow operated.

There was no surprise there when the ring leader attacked Clark. The crime-fighter, however, did not need to raise a finger because the bow-wielding bandit had it covered. An arrow was propelled into the back of the felon's shoulder, rendering him immobile for some period of time for the authorities to apprehend them once they arrived on the scene. To assure that they would not escape, Clark seized a metal bar from the ceiling and used it to tie the criminals together, preventing them from leaving the scene of the crime. "Was that really necessary?" Clark asked, turning toward Oliver after the criminals had been bound by steel. Although they had stopped them from robbing the convenient store, Clark did not seem to be too pleased at the thought of Oliver attacking the felon when he had everything under control. However, lately, Clark did not seem to care as much for the small details and let it pass by him because now, everything had been done and all was peaceful once again. The sound of a police siren was audible from outside of the convenient store, indicating that the Metropolis police department had arrived at the scene of the crime and suggesting to Clark and Oliver that it was time for them to depart, but not before carving into the floor the pentagon-shaped symbol imprinted on his chest with his heat vision.

Once that deed had been done, Clark turned toward Oliver to give him a nod as if to say goodbye and then raced off at lightning-fast speeds before the police could spot them. Once outside, the man of steel pushed off of the pavement with all of his might and climbed into the surrounding atmosphere. He jumped on top of a twelve-story building which towered over that particular neighbourhood and landed on its apex. The black-clad superhero looked down on the city below him, watching for anymore suspicious activities, as well as monitoring the police force moving into the convenient store to apprehend the criminals to ensure that nobody else would be harmed that evening at that particular event. Everything seemed to proceed on well and nothing was out of the ordinary now. Things had changed, Clark thought, since his appearance as The Blur in the city of Metropolis. Crime rates had actually dropped since his arrival in the busy urban setting, but that did not mean that all was well and peaceful. The crime-fighting superhero was still a necessity because without caped crusaders such as Superman and Green Arrow, the police force would certainly find that fighting crime without them would be greater in difficulty and it was never bad to have a hand in the business. Clark only hoped that he could live up to everybody's expectations of him.

The moment his dart lodged itself upon the felon’s back, a stunning electrical jolt was released and the body shook in surprise before falling down to the floor limp and paralysed. Although the criminal fell to the floor, Clark questioned his actions once again, and Oliver was used to it. He didn’t even bother to reply to his Kryptonian friend but instead, snickered with a smile whilst the super-strengthened Blur came over and bounded the criminals with a bent bar of steel. The moment the criminals were wrapped up, the superheros could hear the presence of the Metropolis Police force in which caused the two to immediately think of plan to escape. Whilst the Blur immediately evacuated itself from the crime scene, the rich billionaire playboy turned around and exited through the back door the moment the police tended to the captured criminals. Exiting the building on the top floor, Oliver used the same tether line and with his transformed grappling bow, he swung towards the building opposite to the crime scene.

Arriving at the building with a slight thump, Oliver landed on the ground with suspended knees in a crouching position. However, standing upwards, Oliver looked forward and noticed a black figure before him. Needless to assume, Oliver could already recognise this unique figure. ”A strange world, isn’t it?” Oliver said out of the blue as he walked towards the black figure. ”Metropolis is indeed a big city,” he said as he turned off his voice changer, unafraid for Clark Kent to hear his true voice. ”Clark, you do realise that this world is more than what we see.” Oliver said hoping that his comrade may be persuaded to join his team of super-natural beings.

For once, Oliver did not protest Clark when his decision to attack was questioned. This, however, was fortunate for both of the superheroes because Clark did not plan on holding up an argument; crime-fighting was crime-fighting. He was poised on top of the twelve-story building and looked down on the busy and active city below his feet as it moved about and went on with its usual routine. It was hard to think that a city with so many crimes and terrible incidents could go about living so normally, seemingly without any care in the world. The caped crusader stared down at the metropolitan setting and listened to his surroundings with his heightened sense of hearing. Before he could detect another crime taking place, something else had captured his attention: it was Oliver swinging up onto the building top with his Green Arrow technology. When he arrived on the rooftop, he greeted Clark but not in any conventional way. "Very strange," Clark agreed, looking back at the city under him. Oliver took a look at Metropolis City as well and made a comment about it being a very vast place, but that was fairly obvious to anybody who had lived in other Metropolis-like settings. Of all the large cities in the world, the city of Metropolis was arguably one of, if not, the largest city on the face of the Earth.

Oliver made another comment on how the world was more than what the two of them could see. Even without his explaining it, it was clear that what the bow-wielding bandit was trying to say was that Metropolis City was not the only place that needed The Blur and Green Arrow. By suggesting that, Clark was certain that this was another invitation to the Green Arrow's team of justice-doers. However, even if the rest of the world needed people like him and Oliver, Clark thought, his prime objective was to protect Metropolis from its offenders and attackers, not to protect other places of the world. When he lived an ordinary life, he did not want to take on the responsibility of protecting everybody on the face of the Earth, but rather he wanted to stay close to home. Now, however, it was different. Clark had abandoned that mentality and started to wonder if Oliver was right and that maybe joining his team of superhuman beings would increase his effectiveness as a superhero. In spite of knowing this, Clark was still reluctant to join a team of superheroes to fight crime. He was doing very well by himself and did not require the help of anybody else, including Oliver, Bart, Victor, or Dinah. "I'm protecting Metropolis by myself and I'm doing fine with that," he said, confident that he did not need anybody else.

Clark’s unique answers were quite ordinary as Oliver didn’t expect more from the farm boy. Noises from constant beeping of horns could be heard from the roads down below and although Oliver didn’t have any super-hearing abilities like the Kryptonian before him, he was still able to hear the frustration of mankind. ”As big as it may seem, other cities like Beijing, Melbourne, and Auckland are just as big as the city before us.” The Green Arrow remarked as he took steps forward, standing just on the edge of the building as he dipped his head downwards, peering into the lighted streets of Metropolis. ”There are many things that happen before us, at the same time at different places throughout the Earth.” Oliver continued as he turned around and looked back to the black-clad figure that bore a Kryptonian symbol across his chest. ”You are not only protecting Metropolis by yourself, we are also here as well.” Oliver added in response to Clark’s confidence in his abilities.

Both of them were aware that in previous experiences that help was required from the opposite party in order to suppress crime. Although crime rates had been decreasing, Oliver was sure that with the addition of Clark to his team, the Green Arrow’s Justice League would effectively detain those that oppose in the name of crime and henceforth protect the wellbeing and care of this city. Many a times when Oliver was in a tight position would Clark come by and save him from the problem and when Clark needed a helping hand when infected or exposed to Kryptonite, Oliver would usually be there to exterminate the presence of the meteor rock allowing his comrade to regain his super-human abilities once again. ”Clark, we need your help.”

Clark listened to Oliver even though he did not plan on joining his team of justice-doers. The Green Arrow had many good points, but there was far too much to be done in Metropolis City for the superhero to divide his attention and protect other places on Earth as well. The state that never sleeps needed his help more than anything, so Clark was determined to protect Metropolis City and only Metropolis City no matter what Oliver had said to try to persuade him of otherwise. He knew that there were other people protecting the same city as he did, as well. These particular individuals included Oliver himself, Bart, Dinah, and Victor. However, although their powers were impressive, Clark could not say that their talents exceeded his own. "I know that," he answered once Oliver was silent. Clark was not stupid. He was well-aware of the fact that the world was much more vast than just Metropolis City, but there was more to his reasoning for protecting only the busy, busy state. "But if that's why you're here, you should just be watching the other cities. I can handle Metropolis all by myself," he assured, still showing great confidence in his abilities. Clark had not once demonstrated this very confident attitude before, leading Oliver to think that this was something new that the farm boy had acquired only recently.

Even though their conversation carried on longer and longer with each passing moment, Clark could still hear everything around him and his impressive hearing had picked up on somebody in danger. Screaming attracted the black-clad superhero's attention. As he listened closer, he could hear that there was thrashing going about and wondered just what kind of dangers awaited him. "Trouble," he announced only a second before jumping off of the top of the tall, twelve-story building and soaring toward the region of the city that needed his attention the most. As soon as he hit the pavement, Clark made off at high velocities that made him appear as a black blur to the naked eye, earning him his moniker, "The Blur". It did not take him very long to travel many, many blocks across the vast city and arrive at the scene of a bank where havoc had been wrecked. Fire hydrants were displaced, causing water to emerge from the pavement; automobiles were tossed aloof, and the police officers at the place had been hiding behind their patrol vehicles. "What's the matter?" Clark asked, walking toward one of the police officers he had appeared behind, wondering just what had happened to cause a mess such as the one in front of him. As he waited on an answer, Clark examined his surroundings more carefully.

"It's The Blur!" One of the officers shouted.

"There's a psychopath inside! He's taken the tellers as hostages and is demanding that we back down so he can leave with the money!" Another one of the authority figures shared.

His Kryptonian friend was extremely confident that he alone could provide the ultimate protection in this city. Oliver disliked Clark’s solitude-like behaviour. Oliver believed that no one can work solo and achieve something great. Sure, being alone could possibly present greater results, but working as a team expands those results and is mixed with experience and joy. ”You know Clark, I could go back to Star City and protect it, but I know that the moment I step out of this city, you will be the one on the headlines with your death date.” Oliver said with frustration. The Green Arrow began his career as a vigilante as a person who worked solo, but in the end, he understood that partnership was the way to destroy crime and evil in this world. This had been proven numerous times. When Project 33.1 was discovered by Oliver’s Justice League, he alone could not infiltrate the facilities around the world whilst simultaneously hack into the system and gather blueprints of other facilities dedicated to 33.1 around the world. Another would be just recently when Clark and he were trapped underground with kryptonite particles scattered about. Together, the two tore through each level and soon enough, they found a way to escape the dreaded tomb.

However as their conversation began to heat up once again, Clark soon heard the screaming of a person. Without much notice, Clark only muttered one word before he jumped off the building and disappearing from the Green Arrow’s sight. Aware that catching the Blur would be impossible, Oliver only hoped that his intercom could pick up signals and hence locate the location of the problem. Tuning his intercom to intercept certain frequencies, Oliver soon found out the location of the problem. With his bow, he fired yet another grappling wire to another building and repetitively, he soon approached the location where the problem was located. With a tether wire grasped to the adjacent building, Oliver transformed his bow into a grappling claw and connected it with the wire. ‘Swinging’ from building to building via the wire, Oliver soon landed on the next building with ease and before he knew it, he was ready to fire another shot to the building. As he swung from building to building, he noticed that the streets were bright, but the flashing red and blue lights were more dominant than the others.

Inside the bank was no ordinary criminal. The character pacing around waiting for the police officers to respond to his demands possessed a metal left arm which seemed to grant him superhuman power. Moreover, a thick lead plate covered his chest, appearing to be no more than protection from being shot at by the Metropolis police department. Several bullets had hit it, but nothing seemed to have pierced the armor. As he moved back and forth, he could see from the inside that the famous Blur had appeared and that worried him. Although he was very strong, this criminal, by the name of Corben, was not very fast and could not move as quick as The Blur. This worried him but it was not the end of everything. He had several hostages and made a new demand since a superhero had arrived to stop him. "If you know what's good for the hostages, you'll keep The Blur out of here!" Corben threatened. There had been several explosive charges planted in the heart of the bank which would not only kill the hostages, but cause the floors above them to cave in on them as well, resulting in greater collateral damage.

Before Oliver had even arrived on the scene, The Blur had already jumped into action. He was ordered not to enter the bank but decided not to heed the warning of the dangerous felon and entered anyway. Clark was confident that his speed was more than enough to overcome this obstacle and grant him enough time to gather the hostages or the explosive object before it could detonate and harm anybody before apprehending the criminal behind this mischievous activity. Before rushing in to see just where the man had been hiding, Clark used his improved hearing to listen to what he had been saying but all he could make out was the felon treating his hostages with poor attitude and language. He relied on his X-ray vision to check in on the scene, looking beyond the concrete building walls and seeing that there had been at least seven civilians and an eighth character with a large piece of lead encasing his chest and abdominal regions. Clark determined that man to be the one responsible for this incident. Once he had found out the whereabouts of the criminal behind the attack, he used his X-ray vision to search out the explosive charge and discovered that it was in the same room as the felon and his hostages. "Leave it to me," The Blur insisted, walking ahead of the gathered police officers.

He would need to move as fast as possible in order to avoid being detected by the superhuman being. As soon as he stepped forward, Clark vanished right in front of the eyes of the police force. He raced into the bank and without a moment to spare, snatched the detonator out of the felon's hands and secured the explosive device. Once both items had been in his hands, the costumed crime-fighter reappeared outside and tossed the dangerous weapon far into the stratosphere before having it detonate several thousand meters above the city so that nobody had been hurt by the ensuing explosion. Only an instant after the dangerous device had left his hand did Clark return to the bank in order to monitor the dangerous situation and to prevent the criminal from harming anybody due to his sudden loss. "It's over. Give yourself up," Clark warned, standing poised on the tiled floor in front of the small audience, the police force that observed from the outside, and the felon that had caused this disaster. Even if this person had superhuman characteristics that made him dangerous to the Metropolis police department members, he was certainly no match for somebody like Clark with his arsenal of superpowers. Finally, the Green Arrow had arrived just outside but Clark was now just finishing up.

Swinging from building to building, Oliver soon arrived at the scene were several police vehicles were present with their red and blue lights tuning on and off blinding and capturing the attention of those who walked close to it. Landing on top of a building, the bandit could clearly see what was happening inside without the aid of the Blur’s X-ray vision. Through a window assisted with his binocular function of his spectacles, he could clearly see the culprit of all of this commotion whilst he could also see a black figure. Without second thoughts, he could already identify the black figure. ”How did I know?” he muttered rhetorically as he fired another wired arrow to the side of the building. Taunting the rope to the back of this current building, he transformed his bow into a grappling mechanism and swung into action. Breaking through the window of the lower floor, he landed perfectly before he decided to run up the side stairs and head towards the room where the enjoyment was located.

Breaking in and somewhat breaking the tension between the Blur and the ‘psychopath’, Oliver smiled and immediately turned towards the hostages that were tied up in the corner. ”I’ll let you do the job.” Oliver smirked before he headed towards the hostages. Using the tip of his darts, he cut the rope that had bound the employees together. He was doing it at a moderate speed with no fear that the robber would assault him. He trusted his black-clad vigilante ally to protect him if the lead-plated man decided to assault him. Cutting the threads that bounded the hostages together, he had his group of rescued hostages to gather up and together, he led them downstairs. The moment the group left downstairs, he saw them off, each with a relieved face whilst some thanked the Green Arrow for saving him. Understanding that Clark could handle the rest, Oliver was still attempting to reinforce the idea of teamwork and hence, he turned around, away from the attention of the police and headed upstairs, rejoining Clark and his fierce interaction with the mysterious figure.

Both The Blur and Green Arrow had arrived at the scene of the crime. Corben started to feel uneasy and when The Blur had snatched the detonator out of his hand as well as the dangerous charge, he grew furious and started to release his rage on the hostages all around him. Unfortunately, before he could carry out anymore ill deeds, the superhero had returned and confronted him. "I thought I told you to stay out of this, Blur," Corben warned, dangerously. He planned on harming somebody next to show his true intentions but when Green Arrow had started to evacuate the captives, John panicked. He was backed up against a wall against two caped crusaders and did not have a lot going for him except for his superhuman strength which was no match for somebody who could move faster than a speeding bullet. Instead, he charged right in at the one who was initially responsible: The Blur. While running toward the superhero dressed in black garments, Corben tossed his right arm back and, with all of his might, drove it back forward into The Blur's chest. He delivered enough force to hurdle a small vehicle a great distance away from where he was standing, hoping that was more than sufficient enough to damage the crime-fighting costume-wearer.

Clark saw that Oliver had arrived on the scene and was immediately at work with freeing the hostages. He noticed that Corben had also witnessed the appearance of the Green Arrow at the bank and grew furious with rage in an instant. This did not entice the costumed crime-fighter to attack because, although it was evident that his foe possessed tremendous strength, it was clearly no match for the man of steel and his remarkable abilities and powers. He monitored Oliver and his attempt at freeing the captives in the background, seeing that the bow-wielding bandit succeeded in his endeavour before continuing with his personal confrontation with the superhuman felon. It seemed that Corben did not possess enough talent to retain control over the hostages and confront The Blur at the same time, thus, needing to let the captives go free before attacking Clark with all of his might. The attack had come at an ordinary speed so it was impossible for something like that to hurt somebody who could move as fast as Clark could. He perceived the attack in a slowed motion, giving him the power to react before his foe could hit him, therefore preventing harm from being done onto him and rendering his adversary powerless for that instant. "That was good," he complimented, but then frowned to show his seriousness.

The force delivered to Clark was excessive but no match for the man of steel and his great might. The attack was stopped before it could connect with its target and before Corben could make another attempt at knocking down The Blur, Clark pressed his closed fist against the cold metal substance that encased the felon. Great force was used this time because Clark was confident that something of a magnitude any lower than what had been put to use would not have been sufficient and prove to be very ineffective against the superhuman character. The blow was performed in order to send its victim flying several meters back and away from the hostages and Green Arrow, allowing all of them to evacuate the scene before they could be harmed.
