Towering several hundred feet above the ground, several metal machines had been unleashed by the government to exterminate certain individuals who possessed superhuman powers. These mechanical monsters had been created by the Department of Homeland Security and released when they could no longer be controlled by their creators. The terrible titans were made up of very strong and durable metals, making it impossible to harm them by any conventional or ordinary means. Police officers had tried to stop them but failed in their attempt; the military was called in to aid in protecting the cities but even their powerful weapons could not harm the gargantuan giants. The cities invaded had been locked down in order to protect their inhabitants but that did not stop the towering titans from wrecking havoc upon the unprotected urban settings. To further their destructive capability, the metal monsters carried impressive weapons such as flamethrowers, machine guns, and energy-projecting cannons. As they rampaged across the city, they searched for any signs of superhuman beings with the aim of annihilating them and ending their existence once and for all.

Bart had been shocked that the government had made weapons to exterminate superhuman beings. What shocked him more was that they no longer had control over these dangerous weapons and they were now running loose wrecking havoc on the different cities across the United States of America. Oliver told Bart to go back home to Keystone City where he was to protect the place from the weapon and prevent it from becoming an over-populated graveyard. Since he did not have a lot of time to spare, the speedster raced over in a flash after he received the message from his leader. He picked up his gear and changed into his superhero costume before hurrying away to the distant city in faraway Kansas. The scarlet speedster arrived only minutes after he had departed from Star City where he had been with Oliver and other members of the Justice Society of America, a newly formed group created by Clark and Oliver only several days earlier. When he reached Keystone City, he looked on only to see a massive monster ripping apart the city from the inside and frowned. "Man, what a mood-killer," he complained, dropping his head in grave disappointment. There was a lot to do and Bart was just not sure if he was up for it. However, once he was there, the adolescent was determined to stop the menace.
He used his unmatched speed to race over to where the robot had been rampaging and saw that there had been a lot of people still trying to get away from under the dangerous government weapon. "Not good," he said, racing on over to where all the people had been and carrying them away one at a time. Bart succeeded in evacuating at least thirteen people and dropping them off several blocks away from where the titan had been wrecking havoc. "Impulse; I've cleared the area. Waiting on Cyborg for backup," he said into his microphone that was concealed in his sunglasses. To distract it from advancing too far, Bart raced around the robot and its legs to keep it from moving from where it was already standing. Dust and sand became airborne when the scarlet speedster had taken action; he appeared to be a flash moving around the tall and towering giant, keeping it from advancing any farther. "Man, why do I always get in trouble with the big guys?" Bart wondered, thinking about all the times he had been placed in danger because he was forced to fight somebody bigger than him and all he had at his advantage was his remarkable speed and agility. Fortunately, that had been more than enough so far and all he could do was to hope that it would be enough to keep him alive tonight.

Victor had already been in Keystone City before Oliver asked him to look after it with Bart. He arrived by plane several hours after the announcement was made on television about the rampaging robots. He had been fully charged and was prepared for the worst-case scenario; it looked like it was finally time for Cyborg to test his sonic cannon that Queen Industries had successfully installed on his body so long ago. He put on his costume back on the plane and once he arrived in Keystone City, the bionic character raced out of the flying vehicle and hurried towards the city where he could already see the terrible titan rampaging about. He traveled by foot because that was his greatest mode of transportation; although he could not reach speeds remotely close to those that Bart or even Clark could reach, he was still faster than an ordinary human being and some small cars. "This is Cyborg, en route to the rendezvous point. ETA is three minutes," he said into the microphone on his uniform. Bart had already made it to Keystone City but that was because he could move faster than the speed of light; for the rest of the people who could only move at normal or slightly above-normal speeds, they needed time to reach their destination. Victor just so happened to be one of those slightly above-normal people.
When he finally reached the metal giant, Bart was already running around it to distract it and keep it from moving anymore or from where it was standing. "Cyborg, arriving on the scene. Impulse, make way," Victor said before he reached his enemy. Without slowing down or stopping whatsoever, Victor made his way into the tall robot and its exposed lower regions. Assuming Bart would make way for Cyborg, the cybernetically-enhanced human being slammed into the left leg of the towering giant with more than enough force to move at least the weight of three cars or put a hole through any cement surface. He had done this in hopes of knocking the titan onto its back so that he could fire away with his sonic cannon fixed in his right arm. Before this battle, Cyborg had been outfitted with numerous technologies that allowed him to combat the forces of crime and evil successfully and made him into a very intimidating character to face for anybody who was not armed to the teeth (literally) like he was. Once he had slammed into the super-weapon, Victor backed off. He retreated to where Bart was and panted. "This is what we have to take care of? Oliver forgets to mention just how big our opponents usually are before sending us out on a suicide mission," he complained in a joking sort of tone of voice and accompanying smile.

The metal monster had wrecked havoc successfully across the once-peaceful urban setting. Keystone City was now in grave danger and was desperately searching for somebody to protect it. When Impulse had arrived on the scene, the terrible titan detected the presence of a human being that possessed special powers and proceeded to target Bart Allen. "Target acquired. Positioning for attack," it announced in a frightening voice. It started towards Bart but before it could advance any farther, it was trapped by the scarlet speedster in what appeared to be a crimson vortex. Just before it decided to attack the bright flash, another superhuman being had intervened. Cyborg soon made an appearance and knocked the titan down with such great force, causing it to fall backwards into an adjacent building. "Target acquired," it said only an instant after Victor had attacked it. Its left arm was raised and a concealed compartment was opened to reveal an array of dangerous missiles. At least ten of the exploding projectiles were fired at the two costumed crime-fighters, racing rapidly towards the both of them without any moment to spare while the giant returned to its feet.

Already on his feet and moving, Bart could see the missiles being fired at him at a rapid pace and worked to move around them so that he was not hurt by the dangerous weapons. However, he could not help but to notice that there were people inside of the building behind him and Victor and that the people would be hurt if he did not hurry to their rescue. He looked at Victor as if to say "take care of the enormous rampaging robot so that I can save the residents of the apartment building ahead" and raced off in a flash. He was already at the door at the bottom of the apartment building several blocks away and opened the door into the stairwell. The staircase was very tall but it was no match for the speedster who moved at light speeds. He climbed each step with excessive haste in order to reach everybody in the building. He aimed to accomplish a feat that no ordinary human being could ever hope to achieve; Bart planned on saving everybody by evacuating them from the building by himself while Victor disarmed the missiles being fired at the two superheroes. Without a moment to spare, Bart burst into the first room and gathered everybody before pushing them out of the windows which he had opened moments earlier. The scarlet speedster continued to go about this method until he had cleared all seven floors.
Once he had pushed everybody out of the building, Bart returned to the ground floor and proceeded to make his way outside where everybody had been falling. Before they could hit the ground, however, Bart used his impressive speed to coordinate and catch everyone that had been evacuated from the building, placing them safely on the ground before ordering them to make a run for it before the apartment building could be hit by the dangerous weapons. "Well, what are you all waiting for? Get out of here!" Bart yelled, looking back at the enormous robot that was left to Victor to fight alone. He wondered just how he could help out his friend; unlike Victor and Clark, Bart did not have superhuman strength and could not move cars with his bare hands. All he could do was run fast and that was something he would have to use to his advantage. Finally, the speedster thought about an idea and used both of his arms to create strong whirlwinds by rotating them at superhuman speeds. This effectively changed the trajectory of the missiles fired by the gigantic iron giant but could not save the apartment building from all of them. A few of them had hit the building, causing debris to rain down on the city roads below but reducing the damage inflicted on the surroundings to a minimum. "What's next?" He wondered.

Cyborg was already on the scene and acting in order to stop the rampaging robot from advancing any farther on the road. However, it had already fired away many missiles and put the city in danger, leaving it up to the bionic human being to stop the dangerous projectiles from hitting the surrounding buildings. "Here goes nothing," Victor thought to himself out loud. The superhero raised his right arm and activated the sonic cannon installed in his forearm. The whole of his arm had transformed into a projectile-launching weapon and was raised towards the impending danger. His left eye watched the missiles very carefully and when they had come into firing range, the sonic cannon unleashed a powerful blow which targeted the closest projectile in range. A brilliant bluish-white light was propelled from his forearm firearm and eliminated the missile in a single blow, causing it to explode and shower metal parts down onto the road below. "Now we're in business," he grinned as he focused on another missile that was now closer than the first one he had fired at. The sonic cannon fired away in rapid succession at each of the following missiles but soon, he could not keep up with the rate at which they were flying and could only eliminate eight of the ten projectiles fired in his direction before racing away to elude the hazard.
The remaining two missiles crashed into the apartment building behind him from which Bart had rescued many residents. The building was leveled and had started to topple over, causing debris to rain down on the setting below. "Damn, that's a lot of firepower," Victor frowned at the unpleasant sight. He returned to focusing on the rampaging robot and decided to use his newly-installed weapon to defeat the menace. The sonic cannon was raised once again and fired many smaller projectiles at the robot around its chest area, hoping that his weapon packed just enough firepower to break through its seemingly impenetrable armor. When Bart asked "what now?", Victor could only think about one thing. "Bring down that thing, obviously," he answered. Just how they would go about doing that was something the two of them had yet to discover, but with Victor's new weapon, he was confident that they had the advantage. Right now, Bart needed to use his speed to give the two superheroes the upper hand. Just how he would have to go about doing that was something that the speedster had to discover by himself. "What if you do something like... run around the city? You could pick up momentum and use that to your advantage. That much force has to do something," Victor suggested, thoughtfully.

Cyborg seemed to possess dangerous firepower; that was duly noted by the iron giant and its impressive processing computer. The energy-oriented projectiles launched by Cyborg proved to be very ineffective against the durable armor possessed by the towering terror but after repeated abuse, the armor started to wear but no prominent damage was visible. "Positioning for attack," it repeated in its same voice. The right arm was raised and a compartment was opened to reveal a machine gun. Cross hairs on its monitor aligned themselves with the target and once Cyborg had been in its sights, the weapon started to fire away at the superhero. Metal bullets were propelled at high speeds towards the bionic human being. Bart, seemingly busy with something else, was also the target of another attack. The left arm revealed another machine gun and fired away at the scarlet speedster. Even though the weapon could not hurt Bart, the attack was carried out to keep the adolescent superhero busy to prevent him from attacking when the iron giant least suspected it while it pounded on Cyborg with all of its available ammunition.

Bart was not sure how to act next. The robot was far too powerful for somebody like him to even fathom. Even though he could run at impressive speeds, that could not compare to the destructive power of the rampaging robot. Victor, however, suggested that Bart use his speed more creatively and think about how he could use it to attack the robot. "Got it!" Bart agreed. He was shot at with the machine gun that the robot sported but the weapon would not reach the scarlet speedster. He raced away and was gone in a flash, leaving Victor to fight the terror all by himself. Meanwhile, Bart raced around the city in a hurry. In the wake of his movements, dust started to rise from the pavement. The speed force that endowed Bart with the ability to run as fast as he could run also protected him from the effects of using his speed. This included friction and airborne particulate matter, but also protecting him from excessive injury. As he accelerated, Bart started to near the speed of light and acquired the the relativistic mass of such speed to deal blows which could hit with force much greater than any ordinary human being. To reach this speed, however, Bart needed to travel around the city several hundred times. By the time he had neared the speed of light, cars around him started to lift off of the ground as he passed by.
The city was already in a panic so Bart did not think that traveling at his impressive speed could cause anymore chaos. He finally returned to where Victor was fighting the enormous rampaging robot and upon approaching it, the scarlet speedster imparted a blow with all of his collected mass onto the right leg of the iron giant. It packed more than enough force to be considered on the superhuman level. This, however, was not the only attack he decided to make. Since he was already moving at the speed of light, it was easy for Bart to race around the city and place himself behind the towering terror, giving him another opportunity to strike at its right leg from behind rather than in front. A third blow was delivered to the same leg before Bart had come to a stop beside Victor, bringing with him a great amount of turbulence. "How was that?" He asked once he was stopped beside Cyborg. Bart could not have continued at his speed for too long. Since he was still young, the boy had not developed all of his powers yet and could not maintain that remarkable speed for far too long. He had never traveled that fast on normal occasions and saved that capability for when it was needed the most, such as the present problem they were faced with. Bart, however, had not yet displayed signs of fatigue which was very fortunate for the superhero team.

Bart listened to Victor and started to race around the city, leaving Victor to keep the iron giant busy all by himself. "You want me to face this thing by myself? Sure. No problem," he said, not actually serious about the "no problem" part of his comment. The machine gun on the robot arm was enough to tell Victor that standing still was the same as waiting for his defeat and so the superhuman being did not wait to start running away from where he was standing. The bullets fired at him hit the ground and damaged the road but could not touch Victor. He had been moving at impressive speeds for somebody who appeared to be very human but his speeds were nowhere near comparable to the speeds that Bart had been traveling at. Victor ran away from the iron giant so that he could see just where the machine gun was placed so that he could fire at it with his sonic cannon. Once the machine gun was visible to Cyborg, the superhero turned around and raised his right arm. The cannon installed on his limb opened and fired many energy projectiles at the conventional weapon, hoping that although the robot possessed remarkable armor, its weapons had not been so well-protected. Once the attack had been executed, Victor took cover behind a car by jumping behind it, saving him from the ensuing hail of bullets.
"If you have a plan, I'd like to hear about it right about now," Victor said, hoping that Bart could hear him on the microphone. Before he could repeat himself, Bart had made a quick appearance. The scarlet speedster delivered a blow to the iron giant three times all in the span of several short seconds before reappearing beside Victor who was taking cover behind a damaged vehicle. Victor stared at the speedster, shocked that his tactic had worked out successfully. Nobody had seen Bart run that fast before; even as a part of the Justice Society of America, Impulse had only exceeded the speed of sound and had never traveled at the speed of light consistently. "If you keep this up, we're going to have to change your name from Impulse to Flash," he remarked. The bionic human being stood up and decided to use this moment to his advantage. His right arm was raised and enlarged; a brilliant and rich bluish-white light filled the opening in the sonic cannon followed by a high-frequency noise. Victor had started to charge the weapon for an impressive discharge and when the iron giant had come too close, a massive energy projectile was launched at its chest, hoping to deal some serious damage to its thought-to-be-invulnerable armor. "Let's see you chew on this," Cyborg shouted.

The speedster disappeared, leaving Cyborg to be the only available target in firing range. The metal monster continued to attack Victor Stone with all of its might and in a relentless manner. The machine gun continued to spray the superhuman being but was targeted by Cyborg and after many blows to the same region, the weapon had been destroyed. Still, another machine gun remained and that was used to beat down the car behind which Victor took cover until Bart returned, delivering a punch of infinite mass which ripped apart its leg after just about the third blow. The rampaging robot had suffered serious injury and because it had not suspected somebody to attack it with such impressive force, the enormous mechanical menace doubled over. As it started to fall forward, Cyborg fired another large energy projectile at the super-weapon, further tearing apart its once-invulnerable armor. It crashed into an adjacent building but in spite of the grave damage it sustained, the right hand was raised only moments after its crash-landing and released a fiery inferno which enclosed the entire neighbourhood in his hellish flames.

Just shocked to see that his attack had actually some kind of effect on the giant rampaging robot, Bart cheered. "How do you like them apples?" The speedster yelled. He came to a stop near Victor and saw that their combined powers was more than enough to knock down the enormous super-robot. Both of them had not been hurt yet but that could not be said for the building that was standing behind the falling robot. It was crushed under the heavy metal giant when it doubled over on top of the apartment building, causing it to fall over and cause greater collateral damage. Bart frowned but was glad that his attack had worked and had not backfired and hurt him instead. There was another unpleasant sight coming and that was the city catching on fire when the giant robot used its flamethrower to barbecue the two superheroes. It was very hot but Bart managed to keep himself from catching on fire by rotating both of his arms at superhuman speeds to produce great winds to extinguish the fire around him and Cyborg. The rest of the city, however, was not safe and the fire slowly ate away at the surrounding environment. Since Cyborg was not equipped with the right weapons to put out a fire, it was up to the scarlet speedster to extinguish the out-of-control fire that was covering Keystone City.
"Be right back," he said. The boy turned around and ran away from the intersection and started to run in a circle around the whole neighbourhood. The fire was contained by the human flash and before too long, they started to die down rather than spread uncontrollably like they were seconds ago. The speedster had created a vacuum which sucked out all of the oxygen. Without oxygen needed for combustion, the fire was subdued and started to simmer down. The fire was eventually extinguished and the city was safe but the giant robot was still causing a problem for Victor and Bart. "What do we do now? Nothing is working against this thing," Bart asked now that he was out of ideas. Nothing seemed to be working until he thought about performing another infinite mass-punch, but that would require too much work and Bart could not maintain light speed for too long after he assumed that velocity; it was just too hard on his young body. Instead, the fast-moving superhero got an idea and hurried over to where the robot had landed. He climbed on top of the downed robot using his unmatched speed and packed the flamethrower and machine guns with a large amount of metals that had come off of its leg when it was knocked down earlier, hoping to close the holes and using that against the robot.

A giant fire covered Keystone City in a flash but before anything could be greatly damaged, Bart used his ability to run at light speeds to run around the neighbourhood and put out the fire by creating a strong wind to blow out the flames. He stopped beside Victor, asking what they should do next to stop the rampaging robot. Victor, however, did not know what they could do. Both of them put forward their greatest effort and seemed to be unable to stop the giant menace from wrecking the city. "There's not much we can do. How can we defeat something like that? We knocked it down and it's still moving. This is ridiculous!" Cyborg complained. However, he was right. How were the two small superheroes supposed to stop the giant when it could not be hurt by either of them. Bart, however, had an idea and disappeared in a flash. He reappeared after he had done something to the robot but it was nothing that the bionic human being could see with his naked eye. "What did you do?" Victor asked, looking back at the giant robot to see if there was any noticeable difference in its appearance. However, there was nothing that Victor could see and before Bart could answer his question, the robot went back on the attack so Cyborg dismissed the question and devoted his undivided attention to the huge menace.
His right arm was raised and the sonic cannon started charging again. "We better start moving!" Victor warned before both of them became a target again. It was easy for Bart since he could run faster than a speeding bullet but Victor was still human in the sense that he could not move at light speeds. He actually had to put an effort into running away from bullets and one was advised to believe him when he said that it was far from easy. The cyborg went back on the move and ran towards the downed robot with his right arm raised towards his target. The sonic cannon let out many charged projectiles which packed enough force to tear holes in any normal car or building wall, but maybe not enough to tear holes in the giant government-constructed super-weapon. The projectiles, however, were fired at the openings in the lower leg region where Bart had attacked earlier with his infinite-mass punch. Even though the sonic cannon did not pack enough force to rip apart the giant robot like it could anything else in its way, Victor hoped that by attacking its vulnerable spot, he could succeed in causing greater damage to the enormous super-weapon. "Let's see just how invulnerable your insides are!" He yelled while racing towards the robot that had doubled over, still wielding his sonic cannon.
