Towering several hundred feet above the ground, several metal machines had been unleashed by the government to exterminate certain individuals who possessed superhuman powers. These mechanical monsters had been created by the Department of Homeland Security and released when they could no longer be controlled by their creators. The terrible titans were made up of very strong and durable metals, making it impossible to harm them by any conventional or ordinary means. Police officers had tried to stop them but failed in their attempt; the military was called in to aid in protecting the cities but even their powerful weapons could not harm the gargantuan giants. The cities invaded had been locked down in order to protect their inhabitants but that did not stop the towering titans from wrecking havoc upon the unprotected urban settings. To further their destructive capability, the metal monsters carried impressive weapons such as flamethrowers, machine guns, and energy-projecting cannons. As they rampaged across the city, they searched for any signs of superhuman beings with the aim of annihilating them and ending their existence once and for all.

Clark had already received a warning after watching the news announcement and was prepared for the worst. He had never been in a fight against something so massive or so dangerous that it forced the government to act against it, but now was that time. The costumed crime-fighter watched Metropolis City from the height of the Daily Planet business building, searching for where the metal monster might enter the city. He used his super-hearing and finally noticed that people had been yelling and screaming as the terrible titan wrecked havoc in the busy urban setting. Since Oliver had gone to Star City to protect his home from the dangers presented by the government's new super-secret weapons, Clark was left to defend Metropolis City all by himself. Impulse, Black Canary, Cyborg, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and The Dark Knight had been placed in other cities to watch over them or had just disappeared and Clark was not aware of their whereabouts. Diana might have possessed superpowers, but Clark did not have control over how she protected Metropolis City. Kara was also somebody that might have been very helpful in this very cause but she had also disappeared since she had trained Clark how to better control his flying power. "Help! Somebody help us! Please, somebody help!" A voice yelled.
Right away, Clark knew that that was his cue to leave. The superhero jumped off of the tall concrete tower and raced towards the scene of the danger, arriving moments after his departure from the Daily Planet. When he appeared at the new setting, Clark discovered that somebody had been trapped in their car; it had been pressed up against a wall with another vehicle pushed right up against it, preventing the mother and her boy from escaping. The man of steel made his approach and lifted the car that obstructed the opening door and tossed it away. He ripped open the door and ordered them to make a run for it. "I'll take things from here," he said with confidence in his voice. The iron giant had caused too much damage to the city and if it was allowed to continue, there would not be much left of Metropolis at this rate. With its back facing Clark, the superhero decided to first get its attention by firing away at it. He concentrated and fired his heat vision at its back, hoping to penetrate its thick and durable armor with his attack. If that had not been enough, Clark raced towards his opponent in order to stop it from advancing any farther so that the city would be preserved. The caped crusader had not once fought against something so enormous; this would be a challenge even for the Kryptonian superhero.

The metal monster had wrecked havoc successfully across the once-peaceful urban setting. Metropolis City was now in grave danger and was desperately searching for somebody to protect it. When The Blur had arrived on the scene, the mechanical menace detected the presence of the alien life form almost immediately and commenced its attack on the human being-appearing superhero. Before it could turn around and attack, however, the black-clad superhero had already started with his attempt at stopping the terrible titan. His heat vision, however, could not penetrate its thick and durable armor fast enough before the tall metal man turned around to face its new adversary. "Positioning for attack," it announced. The heat had not been great enough to pierce its unbreakable exterior, and only seconds after Clark had stopped did the armor start to cool down as it was made to endure excessive heat. Its right hand was raised and its palm was brandished in front of the superhero. A light was emitted from its hand only an instant before a fiery tsunami was hurled at the costumed crime-fighter. Its flamethrower had been put to good use; the city surroundings had soon started to burn uncontrollably.

It seemed that his heat vision was no match for the iron giant and its impenetrable armor. Clark, however, did not give up or lose hope right away; the superhero still had many tricks up his sleeve. The dangerous super-weapon commenced its counterattack only seconds after it had been assaulted from behind by the costumed crime-fighter. It seemed to want to fight fire with fire – literally. Its right hand was raised and a fiery inferno was hurled at the superhero. It was very fortunate for Clark that he was invulnerable and could also move at remarkable speeds; either one of those superhuman powers would have saved him from being barbecued in this particular predicament. His costume had suffered some damage but nothing that was too grave or anything that appeared too prominent on his uniform. Still, although the heat was not uncomfortable, the city surroundings had suffered the damage that Clark had not been sustaining. To fight against the fiery inferno, Clark sucked in as much oxygen as much as he could and concentrated it towards the center from which the fire seemed to be projected from. With a single breath, the mighty superhero had managed to extinguish the fires and stop them from spreading too far across the busy intersection; he had even managed to put it out for good.
Once the fire had stopped spreading, Clark decided to go about attacking his adversary in a different manner. If his heat vision was not hot enough to penetrate the towering titan's remarkable armor, pure physical strength would just have to do. The only reasonable place to hit the giant was at its chest so that was where Clark aimed. He crouched down and pushed off of the rocky pavement with all of his might. This action sent the superhero rocketing towards the tall metal monster at a remarkable pace. As he neared his target, the black-clad vigilante raised his right hand in a closed fist and reared his whole arm backwards. The distance between the caped crusader and his ferocious foe was closed and that suggested that it was the moment to strike. Clark delivered to the iron giant a blow so hard that it surprised even the likes of himself; he could feel his hand pressing hard against the outer armor of the towering terror. Once his fist had made contact with its victim, Clark started to fall back towards the ground from which he had launched himself at the super-weapon. The costumed crime-fighter landed back on the pavement and observed from below to see just how effective his attack had been. He had put behind that one single blow a great amount of force that would frighten just about anybody.

It seemed that this super-powered human being was much more powerful than the government had expected and so the fire was extinguished; everybody was safe but not for too long. The towering terror resumed its attack on Clark once it noticed that it had not managed to exterminate its acquired target in the first blow. The flamethrower was also extinguished, leaving the iron giant defenseless for a moment while the man of steel attacked. He had sprung up from the pavement and launched himself right at the center of the mechanical menace. The amount of force behind the devastating blow was more than enough to cause the ground to tremble. The super-weapon had been knocked back, falling into a nearby building which was crushed under its immense weight and dimensions. Its armor, however, had protected it from defeat and when the metal monster recovered from the blow, its left arm was raised and a compartment opened to reveal an array of missiles. At least ten were fired away after The Blur was deemed a dangerous opponent before the gargantuan beast returned to its feet and started on its approach towards the impressive superhero.

Clark was not surprised when the metal giant crashed into the building behind it; he had scanned the building and it seemed that most of the people inside of it had already been evacuated earlier so nobody had been injured when the towering titan came tumbling down upon it. However, what was a surprise was that it was not damaged by the frightening blow and what was more scary was that it was still able to operate just fine as if it had not been hurt at all. Its left arm was raised and pointed at The Blur, revealing a compartment which stored many, many missiles. Several of them had been fired in the general direction of the caped crusader, forcing him to act right away or live with the consequences. Even though the man of steel could not be harmed by ordinary weapons, his surroundings were more than vulnerable to missile attacks and had already suffered a great deal of detriment due to his absence earlier and failure to arrive just in the nick of time to stop the terrible titan from wrecking as much havoc as it had wrecked. Now that he was on the scene and acting, Clark was prepared to fight his hardest to stop this out-of-control government super-weapon from eradicating the whole population of Metropolis City. What worried him was not how this fight would turn out, but how everybody else was doing in their respective cities.
"I won't let you hurt anybody else," Clark said with confidence in his tone of voice. The superhero was resolute in stopping the government super-weapon; once again, he summoned to his use his heat vision again. The excessive heat was used to detonate the dangerous explosive missiles before they could hit their mark; the ensuing displays of brilliant light were remarkable. At least eight of the missiles had been shot down, leaving one or two to deal with. The second last one was hard to eliminate but was done so successfully, leaving the last one only several seconds before it had the chance to hit the ground and cause any excessive damage to the environment. Deciding that it was too close to explode, Clark used his own body as a shield to protect the building behind him from harm and suffered the relentless blow. He was knocked back a considerable amount of distance and had damaged some of his costume, but nothing that was far too noticeable. Once the man of steel recovered and returned to his feet, he showed that he was not hurt and that he could continue fighting against the metal monster without any problem. He suddenly decided to go about fighting a different way and lifted a small car above his head. When it was secured in his hands, the superhero hurled it away at the iron giant.

Setting up for that night's performance Zatanna heard the sounds of the battle outside the theatre. Putting aside her preparations she headed out the front exit of the theatre and out onto the street. There she was confronted by the sight of a very large robot that seemed intent on battering a young man. That the man was able to pick up a car and throw it at the 'bot was impressive. Fighting robots was not exactly her style, but she could hardly let this (apparently super strong) man get smashed. Though truthfully she did not even know if the man was the person she should be helping, as far as she knew the robot was the "good guy". However interestingly enough the man looked particularly familiar. Perhaps he had volunteered at one of her shows, or perhaps there was something else.
Moving towards the man she tried to keep herself covered by ducking behind cars and trucks as she moved down the street. Coming up behind him she shouted at him, "Hey need a hand? What's going on and what is that thing?"

The rampaging robot was relentless. It did not give up for a second even after The Blur had demonstrated powers that matched the powers of the towering titan. Since it was very large and very heavy, the mechanical menace was not very fast and could not move in time to evade the small car that was tossed at it. The vehicle exploded after hitting the iron giant; the towering terror fell backwards into another building but was not greatly harmed. Suddenly, another person had appeared on its radar and was revealed to be another character with supernatural powers. "Target acquired," the metal monster announced. It seemed that Zatanna Zatara had arrived just in the nick of time not to miss out on the action. Both forearms were raised and machine guns were revealed to the defending superheroes. The weapons fired rounds of metal ammunition at high speeds, pounding away at the pavement until they had reached their respective targets: The Blur and Zatanna. While attacking, the robot slowly returned to its feet and prepared to fight this newcomer. "Positioning for attack," it declared once it had returned to its feet and started on its approach.

It was evident that it would take more than tossing a few cars at it to stop the rampaging robot, but Clark could just not think of what to do to defeat the mechanical menace. Before he could make any other attacks, however, another stranger arrived on the scene and was already quick to lend a helping hand. She had ducked down behind the cars and trucks on the road as she moved closer towards The Blur, hoping that they would protect her from being harmed by the metal monster that was wrecking havoc in the greater Metropolis area. "Who are you?" Clark asked, wondering why somebody had so willingly placed themselves in danger when it was obvious that they should be retreating from the scene. She asked if he needed help against the menace and wondered what was going on; it was clear that she did not hear the announcement made by the government officials many minutes earlier. "The government made these super-weapons to exterminate people with superpowers. They can't control them now so they're running around the country destroying everything in their sight looking for people with superpowers," he explained, keeping his eyes focused on the giant robot. However, he was shocked to see that he was no longer the only target on the road; Zatanna had also been fired at.
She was not a great distance away when the machine guns had been revealed and opened fire on the two super-powered beings. "Get down!" Clark ordered, standing in an up-right position. The bullets fired at them by the machine guns pounded violently against his body but failed in penetrating his nigh-invulnerable hide; his costumed had not been damaged for once by the successive gunfire. "If it's targeting you, that must mean that you also have special abilities," Clark deduced, turning his head around to look at the strangely-clad mistress of magic. "What is your power? If you tell me, we might have a chance to stop this thing," he asked, knowing that it might have been uncomfortable for her to reveal to him her powers but this was their only hope of surviving and defeating the iron giant. They did not have very long now. The rampaging robot returned to approaching Clark and Zatanna but had not relented with its machine gun attack. Clark looked back at his foe and concentrated on the weapons being used and fired his heat vision at the machine gun mounted on its right forearm. He persisted with his heat vision on only one of the weapons for the moment because he was already familiar with just how durable its armor was. So by concentrating his heat vision for a longer period of time, Clark hoped that it would cut through its nigh-impenetrable armor.

Before she had a chance to mentally process what the man had told her about where this giant robot had come from she was suddenly being fired on. The car that she had ducked behind would not have withstood the barrage of gun fire and for an instant she thought that she was about to die. The man however suddenly appeared before her, and as far as she could tell the bullets simply bounced off of him. Was there something about the costume he was wearing, was it some kind of bullet proof fabric that kept him protected? How the Hell had he managed to do that? She had her bullet trick, but that was rigged with a fake bullet and slight of hand, this was real or as real as she had seen. Zatanna stood and glanced from Clark to the robot, noticing that now the man was looking at the metal beast very strangely. She could almost see... what a beam maybe... coming from his eyes and hitting the robot's weapons.
"What is your power? If you tell me, we might have a chance to stop this thing,"
She answered, "Magic, sort of. Here..."
Making sure to keep Clark's body between her and the robot she raised her arms and gestured towards a car a few feet away from them, "Ezitengam."
With that the magnetic properties of the automobile changed, shifting to become a powerful magnet. However since it was considerably lighter than the robot which it began to pull towards it with its magnetic force, the car moved and not the metal attacker. Almost immediately the car leapt into the air and flew at the robot crashing into the side of it as surely as if it had been hurled by someone with super strenght. Coupled with that Zatanna hoped that the powerful magnet that she had created might some how interfere with the robot's computer systems.
"Not bullet proof though," she said, "So you know, thanks for the saving."
Now the question was why did this bullet proof guy look familiar. Actually the more pressing question was whether or not she was going to survive this, but further down the list was where she knew this guy from.

The tall robot continued on its rampage across Metropolis City. It had fired its machine gun at Zatanna relentlessly but when the alien intervened, the bullets were rendered powerless against his impenetrable hide. The weapon fixed on its right arm was fired at and for a moment, nothing seemed to happen. However, as Clark persisted with his powers, the metal on the giant's forearm started to degrade. The machine gun exploded violently and its metal remains showered the pavement below the many-story tall titan. It was now short one firearm but that did not convince it to stop fighting. The mistress of magic, however, decided to join in on the fight and magnetized the iron giant's armor. Not one but several cars were strongly attracted to the super-weapon and exploded after striking it from many directions. However, in spite of the obvious danger and peril the towering terror was faced with, it had emerged unharmed from the attack and since it was made by advanced engineers, its interior could not be affected from the outside so effortlessly. "Positioning for attack," it announced. Another compartment on its right arm was revealed and this time, fired several missiles at Zatanna while pounding away at The Blur with its remaining machine gun.

Zatanna answered that her powers originated from magic. She did not have very long to explain before Clark went back on the attack to save himself and the mistress of magic from apparent danger. However, no explanation was necessary as she soon demonstrated for Clark just what she could do with mere words. She spoke something he could not understand and before he could blink, several cars were lifted off of the ground and sent rocketing towards the iron giant. They exploded, damaging the towering terror but as many times as it was hit by the surrounding vehicles, the government super-weapon emerged unharmed and without any prominent damage. "You have got to be kidding me," Clark complained. He had never faced anything man-made that gave him as much trouble as this particular adversary. To his surprise, however, his heat vision had succeeded in cutting through its thick armor, finally. The machine gun on its right arm was lopped off and exploded, rendering it useless against the team of superheroes. Unfortunately, that was not the only danger that the two of them had to worry about. Another compartment on its right arm soon opened up to reveal a vast array of missiles which were raised and fired at the mistress of magic and the man of steel, giving them very little time to act.
"Your magic wouldn't have the power to change these missiles into pigeons or something like that, would it?" Clark asked, thinking that if this were something like a comic book or cartoon, Zatanna would be able to shout some magic words and, as if by some divine act, change the dangerous projectiles into harmless white birds. He was not sure how to take down the missiles but one thing was for certain and that was that he had to protect Zatanna from the ensuing gunfire. The bullets fired from the remaining machine gun eroded the pavement on impact but had no effect on the nigh-invulnerable Kryptonian. The ammunition pounded against his body in rapid succession but it did not bother him the slightest. He concentrated on the weapon fixed on the towering terror's left arm and was quick to use his heat vision to impair that fast-firing weapon as well, hoping to eliminate it before it could cause Zatanna any harm. By the time he had accomplished that feat, the missiles were already too close for Clark to stop all of them and forced him to hope that Zatanna could conjure up some sort of miracle. Once the machine gun had stopped firing, Clark launched himself from the road and propelled himself higher towards the iron giant. He gathered all of his might and delivered a forceful blow to the giant's right arm with his right fist, praying for a positive outcome.

"Your magic wouldn't have the power to change these missiles into pigeons or something like that, would it?"
Clark's guess at what she could do was actually almost exactly what she was thinking. Not pigeons, that was too hard to say backwards and she did not have the time to think out pronounciation on that one. Instead she gestured towards the on-rushing missles and focused her energies and spoke the word, "Sevod."
As she had hoped the missles shimmered and then in a flash of light turned into doves which were understandably confussed at suddeny finding that a) they existed and b) they were in the middle of both a city and a battle with a giant robot. The doves pooped from the excitement and flew off to safety. Using so much energy drained her and she sagged against a nearby street lamp, hanging onto it for support. Hopefully it would also ensure that the robot paid little attention to her and focused on the much more durable hero.

The bullets that pounded on the Man of Steel did not seem to be affecting the superhero and had not hurt him. The missiles fired at the mistress of magic sparkled and disappeared for a second before reappearing as white birds that flew off into the distance after the spell had been cast on the dangerous weapons. No harm had been done to Zatanna, Clark, or the surrounding environment thanks to that magical feat, but the iron giant was far from finished. The heat released by The Blur managed to destroy the last machine gun and when the Man of Steel jumped towards the metal menace, its right arm was reared back and thrust forward, almost trying to match the Superman in a fist-to-fist fight. The super-weapon, however, had not been the victor in the fight and its arm was crushed under the force of the punch that The Blur threw. Metal came off of the damaged arm, showering the pavement below but just because it had sacrificed one limb did not mean that the giant was out of the match. A large cannon on its back was revealed and a shimmering white light grew in radiance until the loud humming it produce had stopped making its noise. A powerful particle beam was fired at the city below where the two superheroes were standing, packing enough firepower to annihilate the whole metropolis in one devastating blow.

Clark somehow managed to break the right arm of the towering terror, removing its flamethrower and damaged machine gun in one felled swoop. However, the giant seemed not to succumb and continued on its rampage. The Man of Steel turned around to see if the stranger that had joined him was hurt and, almost by magic, it seemed that she was fine and unharmed. The missiles that were flying towards her no longer existed and instead, a flock of white birds seemed to have replaced the dangerous flying weapons after Zatanna had shouted some strange words out loud. "I don't suppose you could do the same thing to that, could you?" Clark asked, referring to the mechanical menace that was wrecking havoc in the populated urban setting. He was certain that the mistress of magic, no matter how astounding, could not change the ten story-tall robot into a harmless white bird by shouting one or two magic words; it seemed to be too easy for anybody to do, not to mention far too hopeful. After casting her magic spell, the dark-haired woman showed that she was exhausted from the feat and leaned on a metal pole for support. "Are you okay?" Clark worried, thinking that doing something so impressive might have drained her of her special powers. However, he did not have a lot of time to spare.
The robot whipped out an enormous particle cannon that became illuminated by a blinding light and at the same time, produced a humming noise which suggested that it was charging or powering up for one hell of a devastating attack. When the gargantuan weapon fired its load, Clark was afraid to move for two reasons: one, Zatanna had been lying right behind him and if he moved, she would surely be incinerated and two, by dodging the attack that he could easily elude, the caped crusader would place not only Zatanna in danger, but the whole of Metropolis City as well. So, instead of jumping out of the way and avoiding damage, Clark retained his position on the road and braced himself for a forceful blow that could have possibly killed him. Instead of killing him, however, the superhero only experienced a burning sensation that he had not once encountered before. He could feel his skin heating up and the feeling started to grow uncomfortable even for the Man of Steel. The ground all around him started to erode and a crater was formed under his feet where he was standing. His arms were raised to block the attack but it was no use. When the attack finally stopped, the full force of the blow knocked Clark far back and landed him against a concrete wall, leaving his long coat burned and tattered.
