I am a Breast Cancer Survivor Cancer Treatment Information and Online Support Group
Board Guidelines
Welcome to the 'I am a Survivor' boards!
(also fondly referred to as 'the Lemonade Stand' by many)

Please take the time to complete your profile to take full advantage of all of our features.

You can do this by clicking on 'My Controls' (Top Off-Centre) in light blue navigation bar under the page banner

Go to 'Personal profile" section, halfway down the menu to the left of your page, here you will find links giving you access to various parts of your profile.
Please tell us a bit more about yourself. Cancer, especially breast cancer can be a sensitive issue and although we allow people the right to remain anonymous, we do like knowing at least some basic information about the people are who are privy to our innermost thoughts and feelings

In addition, we would like to break groups into different user groups and the more info we have, the easier it will be to allow you access to the appropriate forums which may be locked/hidden from other user groups

Please note there is a way to insert and Avator as well as a Photo, what you want to upload is the Avator and not the photo.

In addition you can also personalise some setting by making changes to some personal settings just below that. Take some time out to acquaint yourself with this, it could help to eliminate confusion later on

Not every board is same and it may take you a while to find your way around and get started. Should you find it difficult to navigate, you may find some answers in the Forum 'ASK FOR HELP RE THE BOARDS HERE' if what you need to know is not there, post, ask and one of us will get back to you

In essence there are Five main sections to the boards (excluding the sections visible from the outside)

1) the General Section

Here we just live life normally, we share day to day issues, humour and inspirational messages and we deal with issues about the boards here.
You will also notice two "locked forums" which are password protected for privacy, one is a Weight support group and the other is a Smokers support group, should you be interested to join in, feel free to ask for the password and participate. If you feel the need for any other special interest forum, please talk to me, this can be arranged

We also run polls of all kinds in this section, to keep the rest of the boards free of clutter

2) The Cancer Support Section

Here we deal pretty much with all the day to day issues, the emotional support, the issues we need to deal with, the various phases of the cancer journey. Feel free to ask if you think something is missing

3) The Cancer Treatment Section

Where we deal with the different aspects of treatment, the tests, chemo, radiation etc

4) A Resource Centre "Where do I find."

Here we share what we can find where, it is broken down my country. In order to make this easy to navigate and find info try and add the city/State and the item clearly in the topic heading, so as time goes by, access to info has been simplified

5) The "Library"

This is the only section that is sorted in alphabetical order, share any information, links and good reads here. You will see that it is set up not really to be a discussion, but rather a place where important info is stored, discussions are done in the support section above. Anyone can post info here, but preferably we would like to know the source of info, in the event that someone wants additional info on that topic.

In addition, feel free to share interesting dates, treatment dates, anniversaries, birthdays etc by adding it to the calendar.

Generally, instead of starting a new thread, see if the topic has been discussed before and continue onto that, this way we eliminate the same questions being asked over and over, let our questions and answers be easily available to any newly diagnosed person. But please feel free, if it is similar, but not the same, then feel free to start a new thread. If you don't know where the most appropriate place is to post a thread, don't worry, post it.. We can always move it later without any trouble, as long as you won't feel offended

These boards are still in the early stages, nothing is cast in stone, so any idea and suggestions are welcomed!

We do not have formal rules set out, because we believe that we are all adults and that having walked this journey, our first consideration will always be to give benefit of doubt if you are not sure. The only rule we will enforce very strictly, without hesitation, is unkindness towards other individuals, be it direct or "between the lines" We can discuss any topic, no matter how controversial, as long as every individual's opinions are respected at all times. Where we believe it is in the interest of the board, we may move a controversial topic to a closed forum, not to upset the general energy and mood of the boards

We come from different backgrounds, countries and all walks of life.. And each of us has something to learn from, or teach to one another. These boards are about growing, sharing, learning and being positive, but it allows people to walk their individual journeys with dignity.. If you don't agree, always remember that we all have the right to think and feel as we do.. As long as it does not impact on the feelings of others! If you don't agree and have nothing good to say, then rather not say anything at all.

Everyone's journey is their own. we are here to help make a difference.

I do hope that our association will be a long, fruitful and uplifting experience

I do hope this helps a bit to understand what we are all about. Feel free to post anything anywhere...

Love and Light
