Veikko let her think for a while but he caught her confusion easily. She wasn’t sure exactly what she should be doing, he had told her some instructions but she didn’t know how to pick up on it. God, how was this girl ever going to fend for herself when it came time to live in the real world? Aaro had sheltered her horribly. It was now Veikko’s obligation to bring her into the light. Or so he told himself. As he thought of this he smirked a little and leaned over her left shoulder and whispered into her ear again to help her out.

”Maybe you don’t want to do it that way?” he asked her. She could’ve been lost when it came to finding a water pipe leading to a shower at two twelve at night; that was a little stretch. But she could also be appalled at the idea of breaking an entering. Surly Aaro had told her horror stories of Veikko, right? She must know a little bit about him. They had spent ten years together after all. Veikko had never gotten this close to her though; he had kept his distance and didn’t tamper with his little relationship with Lucy-spy. Well, Veikko wasn’t hurt if she didn’t want to do it his way. Maybe that was too personal anyway. Something easier for her, but what would be suitable enough?

”You can choose and I’ll help you from there,” he said into her ear in his deep Finish accent that was colored with his long years in England. She should choose, it would be more fitting for her to do that. The whole idea of the revolution and vampires picking and choosing as they wished without any ridiculous consequences like police. So she would be the first in this experiment, turning the “vegetarian” vampires into meat eaters. Of course, they didn’t have to do this, but how many would if they knew what they were missing? That they were simply hiding behind animals rather than choosing them over human flesh?

Veikko looked past the girl’s head to the people in front of them across the street from the park. A few blocks down was the teeming Napoleon’s Casino, Veikko’s own little business venture. He hadn’t exactly formulated a plan in his head how he was to go about making his grand announcement. He would need all the back-up he could gather because there would be some panic when he descended from the balcony above the whole lot. The witchcraft anti-Christ display would send them into a frenzy. Back-up would do crowd control while some of his right-hand men would wait by Veikko for further instructions. He thought of how many vampires he would need. There was no getting rid of the race, but turning it into a disaster was a possibility. He had to contact all his territory and gain more allies. It would be a little while before this all came into light.

He brought his mind back to the task at hand. Lucy was going to experience her first kill and he was going to be there with her as she went through the euphoria. The sheer ecstasy. Though did she know how much better it was from another vampire? He thought of her in his room back at his house. What a law breaker would she become if they ever went that far? It was only a bite away, they could do it publicly even and people would only think they were necking. So much more than that though, Veikko relished the perversion of the idea.

Maybe you don’t want to do things that way, he said. Lucy just looked to him with her large blue eyes. Her silence had made her feel ashamed of herself. She was embarrassed. Lucy was the type of young woman that liked to be at the top of her game and this had certainly knocked her off her pedestal. It wasn’t so much that Lucy need to do everything perfectly but she hated appearing helpless and that was exactly how she felt. In front of someone like Veikko Luova – it seemed as though it were the worst position to be in. After all, he was a man that nearly had power and strength dripping off the mere mention of his name. And this was Lucille; she didn’t even know how to make a simple kill that wasn’t a piece of livestock.

Veikko told her to choose and she would help her from there. Choose? How could she choose? She looked across the park where they stood and across the street where couples drifted away from the casino which called Veikko’s name like a whore who ached for all his intention. Lucy found herself so damn jealous of that hell hole – but her jealousy was besides the point at this moment in time. Lucy parted her lips looking at the people in groups, couples or singles. And then, Lucy saw her.

In her mind, she was close to the women that Lucille had grown up admiring. She was tall with long legs, high heels adoring her feet and a tight dress covered by high fashion jacket. She smoked a cigarette and took long strides away from the casino. She was independent, Lucy assumed. The type of woman who wouldn’t have any man helping her into her car, she knew exactly what motions of her beautiful body made the men drop to their knees. She was beautiful, classy, and her nose was high in the air. She was aware of her looks and her sassy ways would have made the woman fit in perfect in a twenties jazz club.

Lucy found herself attracted to the woman. Not in the way that involved romantics and love, but in a way that could only be described as a young girl’s lust. She had wanted to grow up to be this woman, but her young features still were clearly shown across her face and up and down her body. She was tall and thin, but her body lacked the curves of this woman. She was more intelligent and had many years on her but she would have never known what it felt like to be an object of lust. She would always be viewed as ‘Little Lucy’. A ‘nineteen’ year old girl who still sat on her knees in front of a record player playing Billie Holiday until Aaro came into her room telling her it was time for their slumber. She’s nod and turn down the volume and wouldn’t creep into her coffin until moments before the sunrise leaked through the cracks of her heavy drapes.

She tore her eyes from the woman and looked to Veikko assuming he had already read her mind. Her lips tilted into a sly smirk and she looked back at the woman. She had tightened her jacket around her and walked fast away from a night as the casino where she was likely to have bet some money but went for her own kicks and giggles to be the diamond of the room with the highest shine.

"Her.", Lucy said in a short response.

Veikko watched Lucy pick through the people pouring out of his crown jewel. He could see how she passed the fat business men with the thick mustaches and short wives with pinched appearances. This crowd was too old for her. Most vampires picked within their “age” bracket. Their appearance didn’t match the victim, but the youthfulness did. Except in the occasions in which a vampire would feel a sort of emotion connection with the victim. As Veikko had before he had come to his casino. The boy was a good eight years younger or so, not even an adult yet. But Veikko pushed that boy’s corpse far from his mind. It was distracting and he didn’t need to concentrate on what he was telling himself was “trivial”. The task at hand was helping the new pupil learn from her master. And then Lucy chose the woman. And certainly she was a woman. Right away Veikko could tell that she was picking a connection, not an age. He debated inside himself if he should ask her exactly what sort of connection this was. Sometimes when you killed a connection you change. Veikko could feel himself already changed from the boy.

He had severed the connection between the self that no one wanted and the one that everybody lusted to be or lusted after. He didn’t have any doubts anymore, no reservations or anything that was associated with his old self. That boy was a powerful symbol of what Veikko had been, hopeless and sad. With that boy gone he didn’t have anything left to fear. He had killed all that he had been holding on to. What was Lucy going to kill in this woman? Veikko was by no means going to tell her ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on whether or not she could kill the woman, he was just going to guide her. He didn’t really feel he would have to hold her hand step by step, she would take over. It was natural enough for a vampire to feel instincts and take over. But if this was not something she was ready for then he would try to help her choose someone else. She was a very young vampire with hardly any experience, it was a tragedy.

”I’m going to ask you something personal Lucy,” Veikko said guiding his arm up to her head and pulling her face gracefully with his long white fingers. He looked her in the eyes to ask her this. It would be formal because he would expect the same courtesy if someone were to ask him about the boy buried in his backyard. She didn’t actually have to answer but it would be the best if she did, he was just trying to help her, in no way would this hurt if she killed someone else. It might only be damning if she killed this connection and wasn’t ready for it. He tried to get this across through his eyes even though she couldn’t be entirely sure what he was going to ask her. She would be able to feel the sincerity of it, the honesty that couldn’t be conveyed as trickery.

”Does this woman mean something to you?” Veikko asked in his deep Finnish accent. He hoped that Lucy would not panic and worry about the woman escaping them. With a instinctive third eye Veikko was watching her as she walked to her car. Luckily she had even stopped to chat with a man on the street before she got into her car and was more difficult to track. Veikko wanted an honest answer from Lucy, he hoped she understood what he meant by asking in the manner that he did. It could’ve had a double meaning; of course he would explain himself calmly if she either tried to lie or didn’t understand. He found this very odd; he seemed to have developed an abundance of patience with Lucy. Normally Veikko was an impatient man who found most people to be miserable and pathetic when they couldn’t follow orders to the exact letter. There was something completely different about Lucy. Maybe it was her relation with Aaro. He didn’t know.
