"My apologies, but I don't believe I caught either of your names."
Apparently she was incredibly cautious, seeing as she didn't give her own name when asking for ours. Interesting. Something bad must have happened to her before, or she wouldn't have done that. "Quite all right," I replied. "I suggest we not go by our full names, just until we know each other better. That way we cannot be truly identified." I wasn't sure how this would go over, but better safe than sorry. "I'm Cathia, or Bella. Either one will do."
As I watched, the ebony mare's eyes shifted to look at the Alpha of the herd. Pah, alpha. Secretly I wondered how he had achieved his status. I mean, he wasn't even coming over to greet the newcomers! I had had to come to him to be recognized. Truly, a leader like that was no leader at all. The corner of my maw twitched down in disapproval, yet again. Perhaps coming here was not the best idea.
