Ministry of Magic's Rules
Hogwarts' Rules

I. Do your best to post frequently. Two times per week is the minimum, and if you are not able to, your characters will be reassigned to someone else to take charge of until you return or become more active.

II. Do not post anything inappropriate on this site. You will be suspended and/or banned. This includes all types of pornography, immense swearing, and extreme gore and violence. Romance is perfectly fine in the roleplay, but any mature content is absolutely prohibited. Personal Messages with this sort of material also makes grounds for suspension/banning.

III. Do not post anything that is meant to put down, threaten, or scare anyone outside of the roleplay. Insulting and flaming is not tolerated.

IV. Do not shout in your posts (Shouting is typing in ALL CAPS LIKE THIS). We really don't need to raise our voices, do we?

V. Be respectful. Even if someone else's views are different than yours, do not critisize them. Also, have respect for all staff members. When they do something, it is always for the betterment of the site.

VI. Do not S.P.A.M.! No one likes reading Short Pointless Annoying Messages. This includes posts with only one sentence, ones that are filled with emoticons, and double posts.

VII. There will be absolutely no racist or other derogatory remarks on this site! You will be immediately banned.

VIII. Keep your Out of Character (OOC) posts/remarks to a minimum while in the roleplay. Do not post just an OOC remark in your post, ever. If it is critical, put your remark at the end of an IC or In Character post, designating the remark with an 'OOC:'. The password is Mischief Managed.

IX. Every post in the roleplay that you make is required to have at least 20 words. You are creating a story, so be descriptive!

X. Post topics in the correct forums. If you have a question, ask it in the Questions forum. If you're interacting with Slytherins only, post in the Slytherin Common Room.

XI. While in the roleplay, you may only be in one place at a time. Hogwarts is located in Great Britain, and last I knew, no one was seen at two places anywhere in Britain at the same time.

XII. While in the roleplay, you must post in the third person, rather than the first person. This makes the story as one cohesive narrative.

XIII. When speaking in-character, it is mandatory to use quotation marks. If you want your character to think something, use italics.

XIV. In the roleplay, you must use proper spelling and grammar. Someone from our staff will give you a verbal warning the first time, a warning the second time, and suspension from the roleplay on the third offense, depending on the severity. If you are unable to use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation, we suggest that you type your post into a word processing program, run it over with spell/grammar check, and then copy it into the forum. The real password is Azkaban.

XV. Be aware of your surroundings and the personalities of the people you are interacting with in the roleplay. Realism is key.

XVI. DO NOT godmod or powerplay! If anyone takes over someone else's character or pretends that their character cannot get hurt will be warned and suspended from the roleplay.

XVII. Your character is not all-knowing. This is why there is a library and classes, so your character can learn new charms and potions.

XVIII. Keep your swearing to a minimum. This is not a little kid's site, but keep things civilized.

XIX. DO NOT even think of killing someone else's character without their permission! If you do kill someone's character without permission, you will be immediately banned.

XX. Do not argue with guests, members, moderators, or the admins. If you have a conflict, settle it through the Personal Message system. If you cannot settle it, seek staff assistance. If you are having a conflict with someone on the staff, and the staff is at fault, immediately notify Hermione or one of the admins.

XXI. If you would like to advertise on the site, ask permission from the staff first.

XXII. You cannot claim Lord Voldemort as your character. He is far too powerful for any one person to control. You can, however, mention him in your posts as long as you do not do any damage to other people's characters.

XXIII. You may only claim one canon character.

XXIV. You must have an original character of your own to control, even if you are controlling a canon character.

XXV. You can only have one account here at Hogwarts. Since we allow you to have more than one character here, there really is no reason why you would need a second account. If you are found with multiple accounts, all of them will be banned. The real password for the character profiles is hippogriff. Place this in the 'password' section in your profile in order to be accepted. Any of the other passwords are void.

XXVI. Your username must match that of your character's. It must be a first and last name, but if you want to make it that of a canon's, make sure that they are not being controlled first. If you claim a canon character's name as your username, you must claim that canon to use.

XXVII. Failure to adhere to most of these rules will get you an automatic warning. On the other hand, the fracture of some rules will get you a verbal warning, a suspension, or an automatic ban.

XXVIII. Admins have the power to warn or suspend you when they see fit if you step out of line. Just follow the rules, and everything will be cool.

XXIX. As a member of this site, you have a responsibility to follow and uphold these rules to the best of your ability. If rules are added and/or changed, there will be announcements, but it is your personal job to uphold them.

XXX. If you have an issue with any member on this site that could conflict with their or your roleplaying, please contact Hermione or any other staff member to mediate the situation. The password is Hallows.

Congratulations! You survived! Have fun roleplaying!
