Significance;; Version Two: Hands Held High

Welcome To Significance

Illuvei Tarhan. The word is legend among the elves. It is their home. Their earth. The only place they have ever known. Until now. A lethal bacteria has been set free in their midst, it's source, unknown. It kills thousands a day, no one is safe, no is secure. They continue living in dread that they will be the next to fall prey to this deadly disease, until one day, the Council devises a plan. The members of the Council conjure a portal, but they do not have time to program in coordinates. Few are living, but all readily go.

They come to a land not much better than their own. Roheir, a human with a mind only for his own good, has many under bondage. The slaves serve only one purpose, to build his castle, then to die. Sweat mingles with blood. A motley group of humans, elves, and fairies struggle to put an end to his tyrancy, but they must first learn to trust each other. The elves quickly gather that this place is called Significance, and they see the cause of the rebels. They join them, but is it too late? Is it all for nothing? Will they be vanquished without as much as a second thought? Who will die? Who will live? Who will conquer? This is your fate, young traveler, will you accept it?

(Drayfus, Rendrag, and Marcus)
Glasgaine. Port of Significance, seat of a hundred kings of three species..dragons, elves, and humans, in that order. A city of riches, blessed by the ocean. Drayfus hated it. It reminded him too much of another city, in another land, for him to care for the place at all. He'd burn the whole place to the ground if he could.
A chilly breeze blew along the ground as he rode toward the city, followed closely by his batallion of troops. Try as he might, Drayfus hadn't been able to find anything in this city that would give him a reason to raze the place to the ground.
(Athul. That would give Athul a reason.)
Until now, anyway. Drayfus knew where this book, a ridiculous tome of magic, was hidden. Certainly the city guard wouldn't let him remove it from whatever tomb it was in. And they wouldn't be able to stop Drayfus if he wanted something.
They stopped just inside the gates, horses stomping and blowing cold steam. The wolf raised his head to the setting sun and sniffed the air, the sea breeze rustling through his fur. Drayfus glanced at it with some annoyance, before dismounting and addressing the lieutenant of the battallion.
"Take the men and go find the mayor. Tell him you're here, but not that I am. Keep him busy and don't come until I call you."
She nodded, used to this kind of order. It was the usual way..Drayfus looked for their quarry (and whatever else might be of interest) and the lieutenant made unnerving hints as to what 'Roheir' wanted in this place. The troop headed for the middle of the city, leaving Drayfus and the wolf standing in the street.
Time to get to work.

Inky shadows surrounded the elf as he watched the scene before him, a faint smile on his face. Two of his own kind, whispering softly in the shadows, fear in their eyes. The wolf crouched beside him, ears pricked as master and servant listened to the conversation.
"Soldiers of Roheir. We've been found out, I swear. Our Rebellion is over."
The first elf was a young man, his expression nervous. The other had the look of a trained warrior to him and didn't even blink.
"Maybe. Who was the commander?"
The younger of the two shrugged.
"There was a female human who seemed to be in charge, and a dark-clad elf who told her what to do. And a big dog of some kind that followed the elf."
The elder shrugged, clearly unimpressed by the thought. Drayfus listened, interested in this turn of the conversation. If there was a branch of the Rebellion here, it would give Drayfus another reason to be in town..and something to do here other than look for old books in dirty tombs.
The wolf twitched slightly at his side. Drayfus glanced down at the creature, frowned, and shifted slightly to reach for his rapier. Time to get some information from these two. Not the older one; he was too good. The younger was scared enough that the slightest mention of Drafyus' name ought to cure him of any urge to say nothing.
The two moved off together. Drayfus followed through the darkness, the full moon rising above. One went one way, the other another..the two hunters paused for a moment, picked out the younger who hurried away with slouched shoulders. The wolf followed him. The elf went after the elder, eyes distant.

The warrior elf slunk into a dark alley, his manner nonchalant. Drayfus waited for him to enter an old building, saw a light flash on inside, and leaned against the door to listen. He could hear easily. There were two people in there, the elf and something with a squeaky, nervous voice.
"I don't know what they're looking for. My spying isn't turning anything up at all."
Drayfus frowned.
"You have spies at the mayor's palace. Will they find out what's going on?"
"Maybe.."
The elf inside snarled threateningly. Voice two squeaked with nerves and maybe knocked something over. There was a crash.
"Alright, alright! I'll have something for you tomorrow."
"Good." Boots started moving back toward the door.
Drafyus turned around and pulled the door handle down, coming face to face with the warrior elf. He reacted first, shoving the other back into the building and slipping in after. It was simple enough to lock the door, and easy to duck and then exchange a punch with the elf, who'd obviously recovered himself. His opponent staggered back, frowned at him in the darkness, and started in recognition.
"Ah, shit."
Drayfus smiled faintly and locked the door tightly, removing his hat as he did.
"Good evening to you."
He stared over the other elf's head into the main room. A small human male cowerered there, something glowing in one hand and something else glittering in the other. Drayfus would get to that later on. For now, there were more important things to do.
"You're the one who killed the entire Sagol family, back on Tarhan."
Drayfus raised an eyebrow. "Not exactly."
The elf frowned, confused.
"Huh?"
He never saw the knife coming..Drayfus always could move fast. He tossed the smal blade to one side and walked past the dying elf with an easy shrug.
"I'm still alive."
The human male cowered just outside the light, a tiny dagger in his hand. Drayfus ignored it and settled into an armchair. The man was obviously a sorcerer or seer of some type..the room was full of crystal balls, cards, and the like. The elf didn't believe in any of that crap, but this man obviously had useful information. If he was a sorcerer, he'd be able to tell Drayfus where this magic book was. And if he was a spymaster, well..
"First things first. I'm looking for a specific book.."

Drayfus believed that the little human hadn't known anything about the book. He didn't believe that there weren't any spies, as the man had insisted, but he'd died before telling. Drayfus sighed, cleaned the last of the blood off his rapier, and went back out on the street. The Rebels got stronger-minded by the hour here, it looked like. He'd have to get rid of them pretty quickly.
He froze as something moved in the night in front of them, then relaxed as the wolf appeared out of the shadows with a sticky note clenched in his jaws and blood on his muzzle. At least one of them had gotten an answer.
Tandor - major problems in graveyard, appears to be zombie or something. People from outside names of Rendrag and Marcus will arrive to assist and look for tome. Kendar.
Rendrag? Heh. Easy. Drayfus stuck the note in his pocket and turned, heading for the city gates. It looked like his old friends were already one the case. Well, if all they were sending were Rendrag and someone named 'Marcus', this should be easy enough to handle.
Seemed odd that they'd send Rendrag and not Morgan. Maybe something bad had happened there. Ah well. Drayfus would be able to deal with this complication quickly and easily.
