When Sunday comes... |

Saturday 11th August 2007 - 10:50am
It all starts today - a summer of rumours (which are still set to continue until the closure of the window) and pre-seasons friendlies, now here is where it all counts.
There has been an awful amount of strengthening around the Premiership and over £350 million has been spent and not much of it by Arsenal. New signings Eduardo Da Silva, Bacary Sagna and Lukasz Fabianski have been added to the side and I think we could do with one more but Wenger seems to think we are well set. Wenger talking ahead of the Fulham game on Sunday said Eduardo can shine and stressed (again) that he is not a direct replacement for Thierry Henry. So the season kicks with Sunderland v Sp*rs and wouldnt it be nice to see the Spuds drop points early on? Sunderland are my dark horses for this season I think that Keane will get them organised and fighting for each other - could be the Wigan/Reading for 2007/8. I am also interested to see how Man City fare this season - they kick off their campaign away to West Ham so I might just give that a watch.
Now talking Arsenal matters Gallas has been made the first team captain a very strange decision and in my opinion a kick in the teeth for Gilberto who lead the team with distinction through some difficult times - maybe Wenger knows something we don't but for once I don't agree with AW. Looking ahead to Sunday now and I feel its a must we get off to a flyer it will inject confidence in the side from the off. Fulham have signed quite a few players but I still think we will be too strong for them - I am going to go with 3-0. Up the Gooners! |

Firstly I am back from my holidays and would like to thank the moderators for keeping the site ticking.
I don't know where to start this week, after missing the Salzburg game I managed to find a local sports bar which showed both the PSG and Inter games. I thought we were rather fortunate to take the lead against the French side but manager to raise our game in the second half. Sundays game was a different story, we controlled the game from start to finish against an admittidly tired looking Inter and RvP's touch of class did put a smile on my face as I sipped down my pint.
In other news Van Persie, Gallas and Rosicky have all backed us to prove our critics wrong this season - fair enough but I think we should be keeping quiet about these things. Gallas also stated we would be "delighted" to take over the captaincy role...he has a rather short memory after blasting Wenger earlier this summer. Regarding the captaincy I would prefer Gilberto to have that role after all of his efforts last season. Thats all for today we are now up to a whopping 261 members! Good work all... |

Sorry for the delay but Dan is still on holiday……
Well first of all the Emirates cup. The Competition was between Arsenal, PSG, Valencia and Inter Milan. All teams played really well and in the end Arsenal ran out deserved winners. The first game of the tournament was Valencia v Inter. The game finished with Valencia winning 2-0. Goals coming from Gavilan and Villa in the first Half. Arsenal’s first game was against PSG. Flamini put Arsenal ahead through a chest down from Bendtner. 30minutes before the end Bendtner tapped in a corner to make it 2-0. Luyindula scored 10 minutes after.
On the second day of the cup PSG played Valencia in a very one sided game where PSG won 3-0 against a team who played fantastic against Inter the previous day. The scorers were Ngog, Diane and Luyindula. Arsenal was 2 points behind PSG before the Inter game so they needed to win or to draw 2-2 or more. Arsenal fell behind through a David Suazo Header. But Arsenal drew level when Alexander Hleb reacted to drill home the loose ball after Toldo saved his initial effort. Van Persie though won the game 5 minutes from time, when a skillful drag-back earned him space to drill his shot past Toldo.
Transfer news now and Arsenal have been linked with Lassana Diarra of Chelsea and finally Jose Antonio Reyes has left for Atletico Madrid for a price of £8.1 million. Kerrea Gilbert has also been loaned out to Southend. |

Good morning to you all...
Arsenal started there Austrian tour with a 3-0 victory over Turkish opponents Genclerbirligi. However the Turkish side looked bright from the off and could have easily taken the lead if it wasnt for Manuel Alumunia's acrobatic save, Arsenal also avoided a scare when the defence were turned inside out and Sandro's shot found the foot of the post. Arsenal stepped it up a gear and started to control possesion the breakthrough came on the stroke of half time after superb play from Walcott - it left Van Persie with the simplist of tasks.
Arsenal came and picked up from where the left off and started to purr. Nice build up and a clever dummy from Denilson allowed Walcott to finish expertly into the far corner. The third came when Adebayor broke down the left and layed a ball into the path of Van Persie who slid it home for his second of the match. A pleasing result then and it seems players are becoming more confident and starting to gel.
Wenger was happy at the final whistle and in his interview ruled out the purchase of "Le Sulk" and hinted that he had enough strikers for next season. I still feel we need to add to the squad if we are to compete in all competitions. In other transfer news Sky Sports have reported that we have sealed a deal for Angel Di Maria and Pedro Silva bit of a strange one if you ask me. Young Italian keeper Vito Mannone looks set to move to Gretna, bit of a pity he didnt really get much of a chance seeing as he was dubbed as the next Buffon. |

Good morning (just about) fellow Gooners.
Arsenal kicked off their Pre-season yesterday with a comfortable 2-0 win against Barnet, the first goal arrived on 17 minutes and it came from Emmanuel Adebayor who tucked home a half volley after quick thinking from Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott. At 1-0 Barnet always had a chance of stealing someting from the game - Almunia was forced into a smart save on 19 minutes and our new keeper Lukasz Fabianski had to be alert on a few occasions. But the game was put beyond doubt with a second from Nacer Barazite on 66 minutes, the young Dutch striker powered home a strike which was too hot for Barnet keeper David Blackmore.
It was nice to see Van Persie and Walcott get a good hour under there belt after injuries last season, Walcott looked bright and hungry which was pleasing to see. Highlights of the game can be viewed here
So next up its Genclerbirligi Ankara which I hope to cover again - stay tuned for that. There has been no indication of what side Wenger will field but I expect more of the big guns to be on Tour.
Finally the site has reached its 50th member - I would like to thank Kolo for his tireless work in recruiting new members, I would also like to thank the moderating team for all their hard work - its exciting times at Gunners Online so stick around and post well! |

Sagna to be a Gooner? |

Sunday 8th July 2007 - 12:55
Good morning fellow Gooners...
Not much happening in regards to news today although I think we should expect at least one new signing before the Barnet game next Saturday. A strong favourite to sign for Arsenal in the next 7 days is 24 year old French right back Bakari Sagna, according to reports the Auxerre player will be joining the Gunners in a fee in the region of £7.5 million - I would not say that a new right back is most pressing issue at this moment in time, especially with the quoted price tag. I can see Arsene's thinking here - no Eboue and Toure at the back in January and we are looking a bit short. This speculation surely means its the end of the road for Gilbert, feel free to discuss the matter here
It is also looking likely that Mathieu Flamini is heading out of the door. Valencia look the favourites to capture his signature although Steve Bruce wants to take him to St. Andrews to bump his squad up for the new Premiership campaign - hmmmm Mathieu whats it to be Valencia or Birmingham?!
For the record I will not be talking of Wenger/Fabregas to Real Madrid because it is utter bollocks.
Not long until our pre-season kicks off - tickets are still available so get yourself down there and support the lads, for more information please visit Arsenal.com by clicking here |

The lads are all back training after what seems like a rather short break - a picture is up on Arsenal.com - hereand you can see that Almunia is sporting a lovely new haircut..., Eduardo Da Silva our new "Croatian" striker is set to join up with the squad and "is a possibility" to appear against Barnet in our traditional curtain raiser. We will see...
Moving on into other transfer news and it looks like the Premier League are going to step in on the Carlos Tevez transfer to Man U - I hope they do as I really rate Tevez and would hate to see him go to such a filthy club - he has stated that he will make his mind up after the Copa America where our very own Gilberto is playing and has led his country to the Quarter Finals - good on him.
There has been the usual bollocks from Real Madrid that they have had contact with Wenger, which for the record is totally untrue. Reports are emerging that Wenger is close to signing a £75,000 a week contract which will see him a Arsenal until 2011 - lovely.
This is the first "mini blog" entry I have composed - tell me what you think in the forums, do you like this feature? Think it should be daily/weekly or even monthly? |
