A thousand years or more ago,
When I was newly sewn,
There lived four wizards of renown,
Whose names are still well known:
Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.
They shared a wish, a hope, a dream,
They hatched a daring plan
to educate young sorcerers
Thus Hogwarts School Began.
Now each of these four founders,
Formed their own house, for each,
Did value different virtues
In the ones they had to teach.
By Gryffindor, the bravest were,
Where they are just and loyal
Prized far beyind the rest;
For Ravenclaw, the cleverest
Would always be the best;
For Hufflepuff, hard workers were
Most worthy of admission;
And power-hungry Slytherin
Loved those of great ambition.
While still alive they did divide
Their favorites from the throng,
Yet how to pick the worthy ones
When they were dead and gone?
'Twas Gryffindor who found the way,
He whipped me off his head
The founders put some brains in me
So I could choose instead!
Now slip me snug about your ears,
I've never yet been wrong,
I'll have a look inside your brain
And see where you belong!

'Tis a reply to a thread I'm currently in on another site:

Anxiety fell over her as she continued to gaze at the person across the room from her, never before had she felt like this about anybody. Of course there was Tyler, but as many knew he meant nothing to her, he was just some helpless little puppy that craved attention. At the time that she agreed to go out with him she was in a charitable mood which was very rare under her circumstances, you could say that she took him under her wing and granted him the access into the world of popularity and being acknowledged amongst the other people that she associated with. Some would call those people the ”cool snotty kids” but to her they were more than that, they were a support group of sorts, always open to one another. Yes, or course they would all say things about each other behind each of their backs but that’s just how they were and she wouldn’t trade them for anything. You could say that they were more of a family to her than her actual one back at home; God knows she always approached them with her problems before she would even allow her family to become aware of them.

She felt the urge to just raise her hands to her face, hiding away whatever feeling that she might have been projecting, with her palms, hiding away from everyone who was in the room. If she had of done that though, what would it look like? She had to resist the temptation of doing something that might destroy her reputation of being some pompous, ignorant, rebellious Gryffindor who always kept herself strong no matter what the situation may have been. She just sat there in silence, staring into the boy’s deep blue ocean-like eyes, trying her hardest to force back that certain feeling of attraction that she had regrettably let escape from their once-tight shackles and spread across her face as a

Avialle had always been visible, but always seeming that she was out of anyone’s grasp. I guess to most people this was true, she would never allow anybody close. In the past she had learnt that valuable lesson from her parents, unfortunately the hard way. This was something that she had never spoken of to anyone before and she never intended to. Let’s just say that she was deceived by someone who she though was the most trusted person to her, and it was a story for another time.

She closed her eyes for a few moments for she had to just stop looking no matter how hard that it might be, she had to stop giving him the attention that she knew most people craved. Some would say that she was the one who craved the attention for all of the wild outbursts that she had thrown over the time that she had been here at Hogwarts, but obviously she would disagree. She thought herself not as an attention seeker but as someone who just liked to voice their opinion in any way that she knew would get it across. Hopefully once she had opened her eyes again he would have gone, of course she was obviously attracted to this guy but she needed to compose herself properly and approach when she thought the time to be right, when she was better dressed instead of wearing this rag the school called a robe.

Opening her eyes once more she was only to realize that he was still there, sitting patiently looking over at her as she was at him. Screw it, she raised her hand slightly to her face but making sure not to cover it completely, just shelter a fraction of it with her fingers almost connecting with her nose allowing her a little privacy to herself and hiding away the slight blemishes of her flushed face that still remained. Her eyes would still wonder away from below her hand and travel over occasionally gazing at the boy. Yet again she blinked only this time to find out that when she had opened her eyes again that guy had stood up and started compiling himself before he went on to wherever he was going. Oh no, please don’t come over here now… please! she thought worriedly to herself. Once again she hid her face behind her palm.

Footsteps could be heard making their way over in her direction and she knew they were his. She had to face him now even though she was in this state, so she lowered her hand from her face and smiled awkwardly. He was just a few paces away from her now and there was no escape even if she wanted to. It would seem that the girls around her too were also interested in this boy, I mean who wouldn’t be? He was obviously of some etiquette and knew how to present himself, kind of like Avialle herself even though some would find it hard to believe. She had etiquette but would only use it if it were actually deemed necessary for her to do so.

Now he was there, sat beside her on the armchair that lay next to hers. She turned to look at him still smiling as awkwardly as before as she noticed his lips to part ready for him to speak: "Hello there, I don't believe we've quite met before… My name is Samuel Michaels, if you do not know it, and I am very curious to know your name…” She was going to have to tell him, but she waited for anything else that he might have been ready to say. ”…As right now the only way I can distinguish you is by that fiery look in your eye and that Gryffindor badge on your robe." She let silence seize control of the area around the two of them before she would reply as she wanted to get her reply as perfect as possible even if it would consist of just a few words.

She scanned him up and down once more quickly then responded to his question. “My name is Avialle. Avialle Meredith fon Ronsenberg to be exact. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”

Personal Information (CHARACTER)

Character Name: Nikolean Odaka
Age: 17
Personality: Cunning, Cruel and vicious, smart but protective.
Blood Type: Pure-Blood

Slight Character History:

Nikolean grew up spoilt and had everything she could have wanted. Her parents thought she was their little Angel and she was, but only when they were around, she would pick on the other kids if they were invited to eat at some ones Manor. Both her parents are alive and well, but they know nothing about what Nikolean gets up to when they aren’t around.

Desired House? (You may not get placed into the House you desire.): Gryffindor

What are some of your character traits? (Pick two):

Ambition.
Cunning.

What lessons do you prefer? (As before, pick two):

Potions.
Charms.

Small role-play sample (if you wish to,
but it could help you get sorted
into your desired House):

Nikolean tightened her boots and stared down at herself in the full-length mirror. She lifted the brush to her hair and pulled it down, brushing the fiery red hair. Luckily she did no inherit her mothers’ locks which were impossible to brush and thanked her father for having the opposite gene to her mothers. She glanced round the room once more as she made her way to the door, making sure she had not forgotten anything she would need today and nodded to herself for remembering everything.

Sliding her key into the pocket of her trousers she pulled the clock round her shoulders and left it open, she preferred it to hang off her shoulders instead of it being a risk, it could strangle her if it got caught on anything, and that would not be a pleasant way to die.

Nikolean stuck her head out of the doorway, making sure that no one was walking the corridor outside of her room. Satisfied she stepped out quietly, she had to be, or she would get caught. She grasped the doorknob and pulled the door towards her slowly and quietly, turning the knob she shut the door, locking it with a spell. With a small smile she stepped forward, looking both at the wooden floor and at the corridor in front of her, knowing that her room was the only other way that someone could get behind her and she was standing at the only entrance to it.

She stopped suddenly when she heard her foot hit something and something rolled across the floor, squatting down to see what it was she found it was. Pushing it aside she huffed and returned to stare down the corridor. She could not get caught at this time. She needed to get out of the house.

She ventured forth, it only took her a few seconds to reach the stairs, but she did not know where everyone was. Her mother would most certainly be in her room, but her father was a different story. He might be in the study, or even in the Lounge with the guests that had come to dinner. Nikolean hated them all, they were stuck-up and spoke as if they had something up their backside. Stepping down the first flight of stairs she looked around and the coast was clear. The lights were still on, but looking at her watch she sighed and groaned, she was late. She had spent too much time trying to not make any noise on her way out.

Stopping she looked around once more and shook her head, it would be so much easier to use a simple Silencing Spell, but she preferred to do things the hard way., even if they got her caught. She slid down the banister, tired of walking and hopped off nearing the bottom, landing softly after having much practise at this in her own home.

Upon reaching the front door a hand came down on her shoulder.

“Nikolean? Where you off too?” Nikolean grimaced and turned round looking down at her father who stood a few inches shorter than her, she had inherited her mothers height as well as her looks. She placed a small smile on her face and stepped back away from her father.

“Going to visit some friends Father, I will Floo back home when I’m finished. I will not be long. I promise.” She told him, the smile still in place, it would slide off as soon as she left the house.

“Alright then princes..” She hated when he called her that, it made her feel small and foolish, like she had been. “Do not be late.”

“I will make sure I am not Father.” She told him as she stepped out of the door, she stepped out into the cold night, not really going to any friends house, and was not planning of Floo’ing back home, but he did not have to know that, not yet anyway.

Personal Information (CHARACTER)

Character Name: John O’Malley
Age: 16
Personality: Somewhat Arrogant, Distrusting, Sarcastic.
Blood Type: Pure-Blood

Slight Character History:

John grew up with a chip on his shoulder. His father expects nothing but the best from his only son. Due to the high expectations from his parents, John is resentful of others who he believes has it easy. When he first entered Hogwarts, he pushed himself to all his limits and sometimes that’s not enough. He rarely got any free time to him self, John usually spent his time studying for the next exam and was thankful for the weekend trips to Hogsmeade. The only time John felt he can escape from studying and the pressure he felt from back home. John is reminded on almost a daily basis by his father, via owl, to study and get the best marks.

John is now at the age of rebellion and has a tendency to chuck his work load and save it for later just to annoy his father. Though he passes his class and excels in his more favorite classes, his work is not and will not be good enough for his parents.

Desired House? (You may not get placed into the House you desire.):

Ravenclaw

What are some of your character traits? (Pick two):

Cunning, wit.

What lessons do you perfer? (As before, pick two):

Ancient Runes, Defence Against the Dark Arts.

Small role-play sample (if you wish to,
but it could help you get sorted

The platform was busy as always. A few older students were shoving a first year into an empty compartment on the train, while others ignored it and continued on their way. One of the Prefects came around the corner and chased off the bullies.

A tall boy wandered through the train, pushing passed crowds of people looking for an empty compartment, carrying his caged owl behind him. Upon finding a quiet, empty space, John O’Malley entered and released his owl from her cage. Carefully the tawny owl hopped out of her cage and gingerly flew to the seat across from her cage. John sat the cage on the shelf above the window. After nestling in to his seat, he heaved a heavy sigh. After having yet another argument with his parents, John ended up entering platform nine-and-three-quarters alone. A throbbing headache crept up on him, and he felt exhausted from expending so much energy arguing with his father. All John wanted was to be left alone by his parents. He felt it was no longer their place to tell him what to do. John did not care that his parents only wanted the best for him and that they were trying their best as parents. John was still young and hated people butting in on his life, especially his parents.

With a discontented groan, John shook the thoughts from his mind, and was grateful when the train began to move. Students were still bustling about in the corridor but seemed to settle down once the train took off. John’s stomach began to growl and he wondered with the lady with the trolley would show up. He closed his eyes and tried to clear his mind.

John heard the compartment door open. He opened his eyes, expecting to see the trolley lady but was near disappointment when he saw a young Gryffindor girl poking her head in. John expected she was hoping to grab a seat most likely due to the other compartments were taken.

Folding his arms across his chest, John slouched down in his seat and pretended he did not notice the girl.

Slight Character History:

Rebecca has come from a huge line of wizarding families. From as far back as she has known wizarding has been in her family. Her whole life she had dreamed of going to Hogwarts as she had seen many of her cousins already go to. She never had any doubts that she wouldn’t get in, because from a very young age she had already began showing signs of being a wizard.

Both of her parents work in the Ministry of Magic and as a kid Rebecca didn’t see all that much of them because they were always busy working on one thing or another. To her it seemed like they were always gone, and that they were hiding something from her. She really didn’t worry about it much though, the knowledge that her parents cared about her took over her suspicions. When they were home though they always awesome and made the time that they were there count. Because her parents were gone all the time, her grandma lived with them and was the one that always ended up taking care of her.

What are some of your character traits? (Pick two):

Valour
Intellect

What lessons do you perfer? (As before, pick two):

Care of Magical Creatures
Defence Against the Dark Arts

Small role-play sample (if you wish to,

Rebecca walked out of the Hufnoerklspethy common room, and looked around. There were a lot of people walking around and hanging out today. It was finally the weekend, so Rebecca had slept in until about noon. She was wearing her favorite pair of jeans, and a red long sleeved t-shirt, and of course she had her watch on her wrist. Rebecca’s hair was down today, but I guess that wasn’t much of a shock, since it was always down. She was also carrying the bag that she always had; it some of her favorite, and most priceless possessions in it. Rebecca would be miserable if it was lost or stolen.

She walked down the hallway and turned the corner to get to the stairs. She glanced at her watch, and decided that now would be the perfect time to go to the great hall to get a sandwich, since Rebecca had missed lunched. Finally after the four minute walk down the stairs, Rebecca reached the main floor. It was even more crowded down here that it had been up by the common room. She looked around at everyone; it looked like today would be a very good day, except for all of the rain.

After pushing her way through all of the people, Rebecca finally made it to the great hall. It was a lot less crowded than the rest of the school, but she guess that, that was because most people already had lunch. She walked over to the Hufnoerklspethy table and grabbed a sandwich off the tray, and ate one. After she finished it, Rebecca grabbed another one to eat in a few minutes. She walked out of the great hall, and decided to look for a place to hang out and eat.

When she walked out, she looked around to find someone from her dorm. Rebecca couldn’t find them though, so she guessed that they must be hanging out in the common room. So, she found and empty bench and sat down. They Rebecca looked in her bag and grabbed a book out of it. ‘I guess that if none of my friends around, it would be a good time to read,’ she thought.

Then, Rebecca opened the book, and took a bite of her sandwich. Time seemed to fly by, the next thing she knew was that it was two and she had finished her book. So, Rebecca but her book back and stood up to look for someone to hang out with.

Personal Information (CHARACTER)

Character Name: Samantha jade
Age: 17
Personality: Samantha Jade is a stubborn and outspoken child, with wit and unbeatable courage, she is one to make acquaintances quite easily, but when it comes to close friends only a few fit neatly into this category. The agony aunt in her group of friends, as well as being cruel and teasing, she has a big heart. She is confident, and over powering in some respects, with a lot of pride, although not the smartest of witches, especially in charms, she tries her hardest with her lessons, wanting to complete them all on time, and with top marks.
Blood Type:

Slight Character History: Sam was brought up in a big family, with plenty of siblings, all girls, out of the sisters she was the one to mainly play up in school, being too confident and argumentative got her in trouble, a lot. Her parents are stern and do not pay much attention to the children, and so she is shipped off to her aunt a lot over the summer due to her out spoken nature, which clashes greatly with her mothers argumentative style. The whole family is a family of pure bloods, and so muggles are not something well known by them. It is expected that Sam too must marry a pureblood, but not enforced, for example you would not be an outcast if you married a non-pureblood witch or wizard, it would just be frowned upon.
