I see now that there are a few websites offering cart reproduction services, mainly for NES games but also SNES and Genesis. Some of these services require a donor cart, while others may need a donor only with some games. The NES carts are around $30 per game, while the SNES carts are upwards of $60-$100 or more.
Although these services are obviously illegal, they are probably getting by untouched for a few reason. First of all, these are games made in the 80s and 90s. Secondly, these games are mostly hacks, homebrews, or translated from one language to another. So, most of them are not commercial releases.
At first glance, I kind of brushed these off, but now, I'm really considering buying a few NES carts for myself, especially some of the RPGs: Chaos World, Dragon Wars, etc.
