Man we've almost entirely abandoned any classic game talk for who knows how long. So, here's the thread for posting all your old and new thoughts on the ol' Dreamcast.

I admit I still kinda miss it and think it should have done well. The good to bad ratio for games was pretty decent despite the library. Plenty of fun titles. One thing I liked was how much better the cross platform games were on this system than on Playstation.

Bleem was an early work of genius. Metal Gear Solid on bleemcast felt like a 1990's Sons of Liberty, gameplay- and graphics-wise. It looked and felt that cool... until multiple lawsuits killed bleem forever.

Here we are in 9/9/09 talking about how cool it was instead of how well it's still going.

Any other thoughts to commemorate Sept 9th?

The Dreamcast was awesome. They killed it off way to soon. It had some killer games and lots of them. Seeing the DC had an OS pirating was an issue which I think also help kill the DC off early. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the Genesis, another awesome system with lots of awesome games. How about you guys list off some of your favorite DC and Genesis games?

Sony fans killed off the dreamcast early, imo. Every one waited for the PS2 to be released, and they just skipped out on buying a dreamcast. EGG was one of my favorite DC games, and I hope to one day see a revival of it on other platforms. If they could revive it and stay true to the original, then it may be the push I need to get back into gaming.

Don't forget soul caliber!

That piracy has its benefits. Homebrews (including the ones for sale here) are easier to make. Emulators are easier to program for. Yeah it was an issue, but everyone loves Dreamcast, so why not have fun with it?

Oh I'm positive they'll revive DC games. The current gen technology can handle them so easily, I wouldn't be surprised to see DC classics available at Live Arcade/PSN.

I personally wouldn't mess with the classics on a virtual arcade, especially for dreamcast, because I have the originals and wouldn't want to pay for them all over again. I'd prefer new versions or sequels that were true to their originals.

I loved my Dreamcast. Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, so many great games. I was so into it and remember reading the magazine and sega officials saying they are not folding, only to hear the following month they were. I think I resented sony for a couple years after that. That system really was great

The Wii has House of the Dead 2 and 3 and uses the Wii Zapper (or off brand gun you might stumble across). Other than that, not much.

Personally, I'd like to see more Dreamcast homebrews designed for the system. All I can remember is that it's easy to make stuff for- you can just use CD-Rs. I'm not sure if Sega used all the GB disc space in their games anyway.

How about you guys list off some of your favorite DC and Genesis games?

DC

Street Fighter Alpha 3
Tony Hawk 2 (the xbox game is a port of this)
Resdient Evil games (also better done than on PS)
Soul Calibur
DOA 2
Rogue Spear
Quake 3 Arena (I think there are still servers for this, I don't remember.)

I'd like to check out Inhabitants and other big homebrews.

Genesis

(see Sonic's collection on ps3/360)
6 Pak
Tecmo Super Bowl
NHLPA '93
