There are rumors around that Toshiba is weighing in options and is almost ready to concede defeat in the Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD wars. If the Warner Brothers move to blu-ray exclusive in May 31st, 2008 was not enough, now Netflix, BestBuy, and Wal-Mart have announced they soon plan to go blu-ray exclusive as well.
The question now is what will happen to all of the people who invested tons of money in HD-DVD. Will Toshiba or Sony offer some type of trade in or other incentives, or will toshiba or sony offer a dual format player for a cheaper pricing scheme? The cheapest dual format player now is probably around $700.
I read that too and that sucks. I was hoping Sony would lose out on this one. :(
Thats a big victory for sony, I do wonder what happens to hd dvd now as well.
It's official now. Toshiba has conceded defeat and plans on stopping shipments of hd-dvd players and recorders by the end of march 2008, although they may still make hd-dvd pc drives in laptops, etc if consumer demand calls for it.
Toshiba claims as of right now, they will not be making blu-ray players but will actually look towards video download services.
