I have recently moved and am new to goats. We have set up 3 separate fenced areas and don't know much about plants. I keep seeing these really long lists and don't know what we should do. I feel there is no way we can walk the areas and tell what is what when there are so many poisonous plants. Any ideas? Also, we have prickly pears and what I think is kudzu. Are those an issue? Help. I am scared to let the goats out of the barn now.

Is there any elders in your area that would be willing to help you walk through it? I know we have a total of 76 acres between what we own and what we lease and up until I got to where I could walk through the field myself and know what was what I had my grandmother to walk with me.

kudsu and prickly pear are fine and many of the ones on the list are only toxic at certian times of the year. for instance black cherry, I have been to places where there were tons of black cherry and the goats did fine but when the leaves are dying they give off a toxin that can kill them but most of the time have to eat quite a bit. see what i mean?
the three main ones i watch out for is black cherry, ezalia and yew they can be very toxic

If I may add here Dennis and it may be the same thing with a different name- but the 2 main things I worry the most about where I live is Mountain Laurel and Ivy. I have watched it bring a full grown cow down. But like I said that may be the same thing with a different name.
