Gardens-in-the-sand is a vision of community where the principals of the xeric garden are explored.
  • Selection
If a thousand seeds are planted, and 2 or 3 plants live to set seed, those survivers are likely to have genes especially suited to the xeriscape garden. 2 or 3 generations of selection should result in self-selected superiour plants.
  • Soil building
By the process of adding organic amendments to the soil, there will be a greater capacity to retain the natural moisture that drops from the sky.
  • Naturally xeric plants
Many plants are already suited to dry conditions. By cultivating the flowering plants naturally occurring on the property, a built-in selection of plants will grace our gardens.

It's been very dry this year. Gardening was limited to digging out blackberries, & adding manure after.

I've been very sick, this has also had an impact on what I've been able to do. There are flowers, though!
