I made this tutorial ages ago, i just found it on a diff forum and i copied it. i thought this could be useful to the beginers.

Ok, in this tutorial you'll learn how to make a really easy sketch. Open up your Photoshop.

1. Open up any picture you like, i chose this.

2. Go to Image>Adjustments>DeSaturate.

3. Duplicate your layer. ( CTRL+J )

4. go to Image>Adjustments>Invert (CTRL+I)

5. Set the mode to Color Dodge

6. Dont worry, You should see pretty much nothing, or barely anything. Dont Worry, thats normal. Now go to Filter>Blur>Blur More
Note: If you can barely see the lines press Ctrl+F so it does Blur>Blur more again, keep doing until you like your result.

7. Your done! Enjoy!!!

This may sound really noobish,, but where is color dodge?

right nuderneath layers, theres a drop down list, select color dodge..
