![]() To start, this is sooo going on my list of Things To Make. Toad riding Wee Folk... yes.... Another one is by my littlest brother's favorite toy, the Beyblade. ![]() He wants to see either a class or an item that allows a character to stand atop a spinning top (or for the class, a spinning anything) for movement, defense, and attacks. Supreme focus in balance, would be a skilled/spellcasting class. |

OK, rather than a class for 'balancer', I'll push the (pre-classless d20) concept of "A single feat may succeed where whole classes might fail."
Yup. So... There will be a single feat, much like the Bloodline feats of yore, but instead of relating to genetics or heritage it will be for focus and singleminded pursuit of specific functions. In this instance, balancing like fucking crazy. Question is, what will it do? • Allow a value of 10 + Balance ranks + DEX in place of Reflex save or AC value against one attack each round as an Immediate Action. It will be a static value, like a surefire defense. • As a move action each round, negate the user's body weight and everything carried until the beginning of their next turn. This is to allow standing on things like spiderweb, eggshells, waterdroplets, all kinda crazy... yeah. • Spin an object and stand upon it without rotating. Also, to maintain the spinning of said object almost effortlessly. Moving with it would require a Balance check each round, allowing a +10 or so bonus to land speed, and failure means the object can not move for that round. User also gets +1 attack rolls for being higher than targets (if higher than targets!) since that's in the rules. Or perhaps no Balance check required to move or not, and instead movement speed becomes a product of Balance check result itself (much like Tome of Battle attacks with Concentration and the like) |

Toad-riding fey = awesomeness. PC or monster?
While I personally think the "Top Rider" concept is silly, I am intrigued by the Balance feat idea. I'm not sure how "fey" it is, but it's interesting, and I could see the concept expanded to other skills as well...Jump = crazy anime-style quasi-flying; Clibb = Spider-Man wall-walking, etc. Call 'em "Heroic [skill name]," maybe...Heroic Balance, Heroic Jump. etc. Hmm...more later... |

OK, maybe a Top Rider is ridonculous, but the balancing concept does have many applications.
Even more, I could very well indeed expand the concept to any physical skill. Swim, even. There is a class that almost does this. The Exemplar, I believe. But mostly all it does is boost your options and bonuses to the skill checks, not outright make them valid as combat abilities, and that sucks. |
