Title: Fey-themed vestiges?
Description: Well? What do you think?

Hey guys. After my long hiatus, I'm back to work my evil upon the world :). Now then, let me cut to the proverbial chase.
I don't think I'm going to have the incantation or the modified ritual I promised, at least not for a while.
BUT, as a cop-out, let me offer you this idea: fey-related vestiges! Unfortunately, I don't have time to make one right now, but please tell me what you think.

Hey thar, welcome back! I've been here all along, working on some odds and ends.
It might work but I'm not a big vestige/pact fan. The flavor would work but it's difficult to balance with 'normal casters' since the classes that use pacts are somewhat outside of the normal game ability interactions.
It is popular on WOTC boards, though.

I'm personally quite partial to the binder. I think it's what makes Tome of Magic worthwhile.
I say go for it. :D

While I personally rather like the binder, and I think fey-ish vestiges would be awesome, I'm pretty sure ToM is not OGL. Same problem as the warlock.

Oh yeah.
Stupid legality...

Although, I believe making vestiges is outside of the terms of agreement since we aren't selling Feybook (or are we)

We aren't selling feybook (that thing Frost was talking about is simply paying for the paper and binding to have a hard copy), but unless the concept of vestiges is specifically called out as OGL, I believe everything in the ToM is closed content.

OK then, here's a workaround.
Think of a similar yet different concept for binding spirits into ones body.
The mechanics would be different but the end result is the same (user enhances own power through negotiating and merging with otherwordly beings).
Like... Skinwalking, Possession, or Calling.

Thanks a billion, Sig. I thought about it, and I'm going to take the "Skinwalker" suggestion. In fact, off the top of my head, here's a feat for it:
Fey Skinwalker [General]
Prerequisites: cha 15 or higher, non-fey
Effects:You have learned the magic of calling a fey skinwalker, allowing a fey to cloak itself in your flesh and causing a state similar to possession. Any fey with a charisma score of 13 or higher can walk in your skin, although you may not call a fey with HD higher than your character level-2. You have no control over what kind of fey it is, although fey with alignments that oppose yours will not willingly walk in your skin. Calling a skinwalker takes 10 minutes total, and you must be in a relatively natural setting to preform the ritual. The skinwalker stays until it decides to leave or you decide to force it out of your body, in which case it returns to the fey realms. While possessed by the fey, you can freely use it's spells, spell-like abilities, skills, and ability score modifiers. In return, the fey can use any of your spells, spell-like abilities, and skills, and can implant a suggestion (as the spell) into your mind, which you may resist with a will save (DC=10+1/2 feys HD+feys charisma modifier). The skinwalker cannot directly control you unless you let it do so. While a fey walks in your skin, you gain the Feyblooded subtype.
In addition, your body is a cross between yours and that of the skinwalking fey. This may result in a change of gender or becoming androgyne while the fey walks in your skin.
Well, whadaya think?

Draajen, that is badass. But it needs a level limit for Fey varieties, like no higher CR than your PC level -2.
The power balance is roughly that of a 'dual-caster' such as Mystic Theurge, at the cost of a feat (which is a hefty price at early to mid levels)
This prevents L3 characters from calling and skinwalking a Ragewalker, for instance.
That would be the equivalent of a 1v1 encounter between PC and NPC of 'equal power'.
I think.
If in doubt, then PC Level -3.
You should throw in a bit that any damage applied to the user is also given to the Fey, and same in reverse. Likewise, all healing is shared.
If the user dies then the Fey returns home. If the Fey dies, the user is fine.
Also, it would be cool (and not too powerful) for the user to gain the "Feyblooded" subtype while being skinwalked.
It's an invention of Talisman and me that allows a character to use Fey items, spells, classes, and so on without actually being Fey.

www.pactmagic.com/home - OGL pact magic. Pretty interesting too. In fact, since he accepts submissions, maybe try to get Feybook published by him?

In case it matters, was me above.
