Okay, so Drunk Duck's finally got that store they've been talking about set up, and I'm in favor of actually making a little money off my stuff. However, if I'm GONNA make money, I'll have to come up with some stuff to sell that people (namely YOU) would actually want to pay for.
So... what do you want to see? I'm open to pretty much any suggestions. Is there any character you particularly want to see? Is there a certain page or panel you think would look cool in merchandise form? Most importantly, are there any of the many T-shirts/posters/advertisements/whatever already seen in Far Out There that you especially want to exist in real life? If so, lemme know! |

Well, I feel pretty good about myself now, 'cos those were the two I immediately though of too! (that and Tabitha's "Have a lobotomized day" shirt, but you can't really see that one clearly in the comic yet)

maybe some buttons with main characters?
my faves are the zombie twins, vengeance (he ever going to turn up again?) and avatar ^^ and i second making the 'have a lobotomized day' t-shirt availible for real people...(finally! i know what it says XD) maybe you could do one that says something like 'i'm a saboture 8D' with a pic of trigger or something...i have some other ideas, but the music i'm listening to is distracting me right now XD |

Oh my gosh, that's be really funny: "SECRET UNDERCOVER SABOTEUR" in big, obvious letters
I honestly hadn't even thought of buttons, mainly because I only briefly glanced at the product options earlier. If I'm reading it right, then ANY image I add to the store could be ordered in button form. I guess it's like like ordering stuff on Deviant Art (though I never really paid attention to THAT either) Should I whip up some special character art specifically for little, button-sized stuff, or just a few generic pieces that could go on anything? |

i'm not entirely sure... speacial 'button art' would be cool, but it might be a lot of extra work for little or no great profit... i'll be interested to see whatever turns up, to be quite honest *looking about* |

I think pictures of character heads could go on anything. (Cups, buttons, mousepads, ect.) So it might not be a ton of effort to crank that out. I think a mousepad with a full-bodied drawing of a pair of characters on the lower right would be pretty neat.
I also think during each election you should put out a ton of "political" buttons featuring the opinions and/or images of these characters. |

Dude, that would be AWESOME. I gotta remember that.
Also, it really won't be that big a deal to make extra pieces of art, especially since I shouldn't have to worry about producing any of the actual materials themselves. I just worry about the NUMBER of images I'd be able to put out. The Store seems to have a finite number of images that any given user can have available for purchase at any given time. Thus, I would be a little wary of burning off too many of those spots with character art when that's traditionally the least popular form of webcomic merchandising... or so I heard, anyway. I really have no clue, this is just me thinking out loud. |

Even if it IS that limited, I think election year would be well worth putting aside the main characters for a couple of months just to run Maureen and Sandy political goofiness. Or even a whole year if you were to alternate between main character merchandising and political merchandising. The idea gets better if the store has bumper stickers available to print (of which I really am not sure). I mean, I'd totally drive around with that on my car.
I also think you can run an entire series of merchandising with Bridget and Alphonse alone. But seeing as how I'm more in the dark than you are about what (and how much) the DD Store has to offer, I don't really know how that would all work. I just know it'd be really cool! If it is that limited, I think we should probably just stick with the main characters for a while and see if either the horizon widens in the future, or if we just want to change things up a bit. |

Well, just so everyone else knows what they're offering (and to force me to finally put this list to memory) here's the list of products the store can put images on:
around a billion sizes of Prints and Posters lots and lots of T-shirt sizes Greeting Cards and Postcards Coffee Mugs (regular and travel) Buttons Mouse Pads Coasters Key Chain Magnets (little & big) Playing Cards Tote Bags 252 Piece Puzzles (!) Mahagony Keepsake Boxes and Desk Organizers (!!!!!!!) and Sheets of Sticker, none of which, sadly, appear to be bumper-related. As I mentioned before, it looks like you, the buyer, can choose to slap anything I put in the store onto any and all of those things. As far as I can tell, the only way to have a certain image only appear on, say, a button is just to submit something that would look goofy on anything else and assume that the buyer will only order the non-goofy version. As for the limit on images, here's what i understand so far: any given person can have up to 50 images in their portfolio, with 25 of them "active" at one time. I'm not sure how exactly all that works, but I assume I can activate and deactivate any images whenever I feel like it. Obviously, I'll have to actually start poking around in my account before I know that for sure. But yeah, that's at least 25 possible designs at one time, which can be put on ANY of the stuff listed above. I dunno about you, but my worries about running out of stuff seem a little silly now. |

That's a list of products I can get used to. I am especially interested in the posters, key-chains, t-shirts, and tote bags. And I can sure use a Far Out There desk organizer!

Well, like I said, once I get some images loaded, you can put 'em on whatever you want. Be warned, however, that these things aren't cheep. The wood stuff's, like, 30 buck or something.

Well, you can always check out the store yourself for prices.
Seriously, though, all the sticker sheets appear to be $4.95, a 3" button is $3.45, and a 4" button is $3.95. Keep in mind, though, I don't know what the shipping is. |
