Hello All

At http://www.archidom.net/ddd/mod_drive.htm I found a opensource Chevy Suburban model.
I would like to use in in FS. I replayed some parts already to reduce the polygone nummber so it can be used in fs and I also added an interieor.

As I´m a Gmax beginner could someone help me finish this suburban and take over the animations and help me creating the vc and may be also with the texturing.

Hmm, try flipping the normals to see if that solves the problem.

I noticed a few things when I looked at the model. I'm betting these things are what's causing the inverted appearance.

1. Almost all of the parts has an "Edit Mesh" modifier applied to them.

2. Some parts have a question mark added at the beginning of their names [ie: ??????101].

For the modifier issue, try collapsing them to either editable meshes or editable polys. Also, you might have to rename the parts with the question marks so that they wouldn't have any special characters. This should solve it for you.

Thanks Katahu, that was very helpful. I will try that.
Hope I can get it right.
I´m quite curious how it will look in fs.

What do you mean make all the cars in FSGV work for FS2004?

I´m not sure, but I think he means the car models on archidom, thats there the original suburban can be downloaded - there are also a lot of other freeware open source cars:

http://www.archidom.net/ddd/mod_drive.htm

You should have a look at it. I think Dirk also modified some of them, like his airport bus.

I´have another question concerning the Suburban.

The renaming thing was easy - I removed all the question marks and giving the parts the proper name.

But i´m not sure if I have done the the collapsing thing right:

(collapsing them to either editable meshes or editable polys)

I just selected all parts, then I clicked on the right mouse key the the red drop done menu apperars than I selected: convert to editable mesh.
Is this the correct operation?

I noticed that the right part of the radiator grill is displayed correct - this was one of the parts I mirrored. Could the problem with the inverted car body shell also have some think to do with a mirror operation?

Oh, that explains a lot then. Anyways, I'm surprised by what models are available on that site. Heck, they even have the Bugatti that's scheduled on my list! ohmy.gif

I was also surprised when i first saw that page, it´s a good collection. There are even more pages witch offers car for free like this page.
Soem of the cars work quite good in FS like the Jeep Cherokee wich just need some ( wheel) animations and a vc, the rest is finished other cars like the suburban need some more adjustments.

At this page you find link list whre you can find more cars

I'd have a go if I knew anything about making Gmax models work in FS.

The SLR and SLK on page 1 caught my eye.

Just a little update, this is the current status of the Suburban, there are several variations like a civil one, police, firebrigade, undercover police, ems, tv broadcasting vehicle, and an elevated version with larger wheels a whinch , additonal lights etc.
At the moment the modells are texured -
The next steps will probably the animations ( doors, wheels, steering wheel ect..) and the creation of the Vc.
I haven´t done this things before, so if anyone who has experience in these things and would like to help, feel free to contact me.
