After the years in which the Battle of Hogwarts took place and the fall of Voldemort for the secod time, those who students whosided with the Dark Lord faced hard and difficult times. Many members of the Wizarding World showed great disrespect to them, and they were hard-pressed ot find a decent job and place to live; some, though, came to their senses and realized that their prejudiced just would not be accepted and tried to blend in with the crowd. Others could not face the fact that their pure ancestry and noble lines could ever be tarnished by their actions, and could not admit that they were wrong for following the Dark Lord when they believed so whole heartedly in his cause.

It was these witches and wizards who banded together once or twice a month during an informal party to reminisce about their days at Hogwarts, following the Dark Lord, and show pity for those former Slytherins who have lost their way. Their own children are now in Hogwarts, and the former students are now in their late thirties, early fourties, and have been hosting these private gatherings for years.

It was inevitable that some of the more hard core Death Eaters (although they lacked the Dark Mark) would try to attempt to fidn their glory, to bring back the dark Lord. It took several years of secrecy and hardship, but the Death Eaters formulated a faulty plan that should not have worked, involving sneakig into the Ministry, stealing a few Tim-Turners, and going back in time to warn the Dark Lord.

However, the Death Eaters had forgotten how fearsome the Dark Lord was and how cautious. Although their plan worked succesfully and they traveled back in time to 1997, they did not have the Dark Lord's trust, and had to earn it. Severus Snape especially mistrusted them and worked his hardest to deter the Dark Lord from their stories. The Death Eaters, cowardly though they were, foretold several future events that would take place, and when they did, the Dark Lord finally allowed them in his inner circle... after they proved theirselves worthy by murdering or torturing a few Muggle families, of course.

So fearsome was the Dark Lord to his own followers that the newly initiated Death Eaters feared speaking of his downfall. They never instructed him, however, on the deception of Snape, and urged him that they must depart before they attack Hogwarts. Voldemort, however, would not depart before finishing off Harry Potter; when he lost consciousness, it was a great surprise, and he decided to go to the present, where all would be comfortable and having their guard down, now. While Potter was dead on the ground, the Dark Lord slipped off, and two of his loyal Death Eaters drank a Polyjuice Potion to appear as himself and Bellatrix Lestrange, whom he refused to leave behind, much to teh astonishment of the Death Eaters from the future.

Now, it is the year 2023, and the Wizarding World is relatively peaceful. No one but the Death eaters who traveled back in time know that the Dark Lord is truly back, and Voldemort has a few ideas and plans up his sleeve as ways to gather followers. Since Harry Potter did not die by the second Killing Curse, it only destroyed the part of soul in him that he obtained from Voldemort, Potter has no warning or link to Voldemort's mind, nor Voldemort to his.

Furthermore, Hogwarts itself has undergone some radical changes. Aided by Hermione Weasley, who snet a petition to force certain races into being permitted to attend Hogwarts to the Ministry, who eventually agreed, those who are shunned on society are permitted to attend Hogwarts now. These include werewolves, veela, vampires, and other humanoid creatures. New prejudices have risen in the wizarding community and at Hogwarts because of this.
