derane academy.
Imagine it. Year 1905. Baltus Winifred built Derane Academy by himself with his own two hands. Back then, it was a one-room school, not yet one of the country's biggest boarding schools.
As the years went by, DA expanded to what it is now. After a lot of remodelling, the next generation of students are now coming to DA. They come in many varieties and groups- The Ins, The Cheerleaders, The Musicians, everyone in their own little clique.
Next comes the endless drama of all the students. DA seems to revolve around drama. Whether it's the Winter Formal or Exams, there's always some drama here or there.

Emmy made her way down the hall to Kate's room and rapped softly on the door. "Frappez, Frappez," she said, using the French for "Knock, Knock." It was one of the weird things that Emmy did; she randomly broke out in phrases from other languages. Oh well, it was fun.

Emmy twirled one strand of hair around her finger, looking down at the pajamas she wore. She really didn't have anything to wear today! Well, she did, but she would rather wear something of her sister's. Emmy smiled guiltily to herself. Kate wasn't that much taller than her, and she took advantage of that fact by raiding her sister's closet often. It always seemed as though Kate got the cutest clothes. Both sisters like classy, feminine clothes, especially sundresses, so it worked out well.

Emmy was currently wearing a tank and lounge pants that both said "Drama Queen" on them. That was the understatement of the year. She also had her fluffy "Drama Queen" slippers on, all courtesy of The Stupid Factory. That store cracked her up.

Still slightly tired, Kate stifled a yawn as she padded to the door in a pair of bright pink fuzzy socks that she wore in place of slippers. Completing the ensemble were a pair of pink and green Hello Kitty pajama pants and a matching tank. Pajamas were always so much fun; you could get away with totally crazy things that you'd never wear out in public. "Hey Emmy," she greeted her sister as she pulled the door open. "Come on in and have a look through my closet. Just don't choose anything that's laying on my bed, 'cause I'm wearing that today."

Borrowing each other's clothing was definitely one of the benefits of having a sister so close in age and style to herself. It was almost like having two closets in one, or twice as much clothing as normal. She'd have to borrow something from Emmy soon; the last time she had been over in her dorm room she had spotted some cute dresses...

Emmy threw herself into Kate's arms when Kate opened the door. "Good morning, Kate," she said, kissing her sister on the cheek. Emmy was always openly affectionate, to everybody. Some people were disturbed by it, but that didn't bother Emmy.

She made her way over to the closet, ignoring what was on the bed. There was no use in tempting herself. She flipped through the clothes on the hangers, biting her lip and muttering to herself. Finally she picked out a light pink sundress. The best part about going to school in Florida was the fact that it was always warm enough to wear spring and summer clothes.

"I'll take this one! And if you want anything, my closet is always open!"

"Good morning to you too." Most people would have been a bit startled by somebody throwing themselves into their arms, sister or not, but not Kate. Though she wasn't as openly affectionate as her sister, she grew to expect such actions, and certainly had nothing against them. Thus, she returned Emmy's kiss with another peck on the cheek; she had grown up like this, so she saw no reason to act any differently now that she was attending school here.

"Oooh, good choice!" Kate looked over at her sister once she had chosen a dress. "You'll look great in that!" When they were younger, she had been quite adverse to the idea of sharing her clothing with her younger sister, but as she had gotten older she had really changed perspective. "Thanks for the invite. I'll have to stop by sometime soon. Though I suppose your closet isn't open at like midnight..."

Emmy held the dress to her and twirled around. "You think? Maybe one day I'll fill out more, and then dresses will look even better..." she said wishfully. But here she was at 16, and no sign of said filling out. She had pretty much given up on it.

"You look great in everything, Kate," said Emmy suddenly, stopping her movement to look at her sister. She nodded to herself. "Perfect height, perfect build, perfect hair, perfect eyes...Perfect perfect." She nodded empathetically.

"My closet is open at midnight, but I am not awake. So if you want something from it, come take it, but just don't wake me up. If you do wake me up, I will come at you like a rabid beast!"

"Yeah. Definitely. And you'll fill out more. I think it's a family thing or something. Mom didn't fill out more until she was older, if I remember correctly." Plopping down onto the bed, she straightened the still messy pillows and sheets as much as she could without getting up. She wasn't obsessive or anything about neatness, but she did err more towards that side, though her room back home got pretty messy sometimes.

"Thanks, but I really don't think so. You need more self esteem and confidence. Everything that you said about me you could just as well say about yourself. I absolutely love your eyes and just your whole facial structure." As the eldest Foster sibling, Kate had probably had less to compare herself to, less standards that she felt she had to meet. She was jealous of her sisters at times, but she could put it off to them being younger, while the others couldn't.

Emmy looked down at her body. "Who knows?" She said, suddenly serious. She often changed moods quickly, going from silly to serious in a second or less. It was emotionally very draining to be that way.

"I wish that I could bottle the self confidence that I feel on stage, when I'm performing, and always have it with me. But then the spotlight is turned off, and the make up is removed, and I'm just me again..." She said, shrugging. She liked to think that she was something special, but in reality, she was just a girl. How depressing was that?

Emmy sat down on her sister's bed and curled up into a little ball, mirroring the littleness she felt at the moment.

Kate noticed her sister looking down at her body, and self consciously looked down at herself. Sure, she had some problems with it, but all in all she had come to accept that that was who she was, and she couldn't do anything to change it (except get plastic surgery, but she'd never do that).

As Emmy curled up on her bed, Kate looked over at her sister, unsure of exactly what to say or do. "I guess on stage, there isn't as much to loose, and it's easier to take risks when you're somebody else. It's like when I write, I can have characters do things that I'd never be able to do..." Her voice trailed off, her mind unsure of whether or not what she had just said made any sense. "It is you on stage though. You have that confidence, you just need to figure out how to access it or whatever..."

Emmy listened to her sister. Kate seemed so wise. How did she have so much wisdom, when she was only a year older? That must have been a long year.

"It is me, but it isn't. If I do something stupid, or wrong, people don't look at it as me doing it, but as my character doing it. And I can get rid of the character whenever. I have to be me for always." She sighed and blew some hair out of her face. "Sometimes I wish that I could re-invent myself."

This was what Kate really loved; just talking about things with her sister. It was unfortunate, of course, that there were problems that were big enough to need discussion, but once one accepted the fact that there would always be problems it was great to have somebody to discuss them with, somebody who really knew you.

"It'd be nice to be able to just start everything over and not make the mistakes that you made the first time around. Just be free and have everything go the right way..." she sighed, flopping all the way down onto her bed.

Emmy untangled herself from the ball she had rolled herself into, and she stared at the ceiling. "If life would be perfect...people say it would be boring, and maybe it would be, but I think that I would like it, at least for a little while. Or maybe not perfect, but if things would just go my way."

Emmy looked over at Kate, who was stretched out on the bed, and she flung her arms out and hugged her sister. "I love you, Katherina Anne Foster," she declared.

"Perfection has gotten such a bad reputation. It probably would get boring eventually, but, like you said, I'd like it. It would be nice to not have to worry about anything, to be able to just relax. Love, peace, and all that," Kate sighed wistfully.

Kate, actually, was hardly surprised by Emmy. Not that she was expecting to be hugged, necessarily, but it was what she was used to. "I love you too, Emmy," she replied, her face buried in her sister's hair. "Mmm. Your hair smells nice," she murmured. "What shampoo did you use?"

Emmy grinned. "Peace, love, and all that...it sounds like your screen name. You know, you got me hooked on the Beatles, babe. Really, I was listening to 'Hey Jude' on repeat yesterday. I think I listened to it six or seven times before I realized what I was doing." And then she had listened to Yellow Submarine and She Loves You. It had been quite frightening.

She laughed when her sister said her hair smelled good. "To tell you the truth, I combined my lavender shampoo with my rose petal shampoo, because I liked both of them."

"Mwahahahaha," Kate giggled maniacally, "I have triumphed! The world shall be mine!" Normally, Kate was the more serious one, but that was one of those things that were just perfect for the moment, and she had had to say it. "Seriously though," she continued, resuming her normal persona, "the Beatles are wonderful. I'm glad you've discovered them...or whatever...discovered makes it sound like some sort of archaeological dig."

"Ah, that explains it." A look of sudden realization crossed her face. This was the sort of thing that she loved about Emmy. She would never think to do something like that, but Emmy would.

Emmy fell off the bed, she was laughing so hard at Kate's evil laugh. Oh, that was classic. So, so classic. She laughed harder, her laugh turning into silent laughter and her face turning red.

"I kind of did go on an archaeological dig. Honestly, they were popular back when Mom was a kid. Or was it before then?" Emmy wasn't bashing the Beatles, she was just making a point. She would never make fun of something that her sister loved.

"Yeah, it's scent a la Emmy. I think perhaps I should bottle it. Do you want me to combine your shampoos?" Emmy asked, flopping back on the bed again.

"Kate, can I paint your toenails?" She asked suddenly, thinking of the new rose colored nailpolish she had in her room. It would go great with Kate's complexion.
