Title: SFA3 topic

silasam - March 18, 2009 10:59 PM (GMT)
i probably won't get much/any response, but i'd like to make an SFA3 topic. it may be dated, but there's a somewhat new psp version which means it's still on the shelf waiting for old pro's and newbies alike to pick it up. it is currently my favorite fighting game, on my favorite system (convenient eh? =P). seeing how i dedicate a lot of my gaming time into it, why not try to reach out and discuss with others? any kind of match-ups, character/ism opinions, CC's, who you main, etc is welcome. if you have any questions on the game, i'm probably the one around here to ask. trust me, don't even try or consider the gameFAQs boards.

i've been looking for a character to sub as besides my usual main, i was going to use gen as my sub for awhile, but found that although he's capable of pretty massive damage, he's just not practical to use IMO. most his combos and juggles are really tough, and unless i find an easier approach to using them i'll probably leave him behind (at least for now). maybe i'll like him more in SF4.

right now, i'm playing with v-adon. i usually use fei-long in SFA3 (and probably soon SF4) but tried adon and found a nice, natural feel to how he plays. just learned how incorporate jaguar tooth effectively into my customs. anyone like adon? if so which ism and why? he may surpass my fei skills!

on a final note for now, the current tier list (from SRK) is looking like

S Class:
V Akuma
AV Dhalsim
V Sodom

A Class:
V Sakura
V Claw
V Karin

B+ Class:
V Zangief
V Sagat

B Class:
V Rolento
V Ryu
V Charlie
V Cody
A Gen

C+ Class:
V Cammy
A Guy
A, V Chun-Li
V Ken

C Class:
A, V Adon
A, V Rose
A Dictator
AV Blanka
V Juni

D Class:
A, V Dan
A Boxer
V Honda

E Class:
AV R.Mika
AV Birdie
V Juli

i disagree with a bit of it, but all in all it's pretty accurate. i'm trying to figure out exactly where the new characters (from SFA3 max and the SSFT characters) would go. i'm thinking any kind of future competition would be held on SFA3 max considering it's the most current and complete, which would make them tourney viable. there's some pretty sweet v-ingrid combos going around (90 hits!) and yun's no pushover. opinion?

Dan isn't dead last? :o

I played a bit of SFA3 recently because my 360 is all the way in Germany (I live in UK) and it just doesn't work for me anymore, I'm spoilt by SF4 and won't play any other SF game D:

are you playing the psp version? the psp version IMO is a lot better than ps1 and other installments. its more fun, and updated. dan is definitely NOT last. v-dan is capable of quite a bit, damage and all. his lk dankukyaku in the air hits all the way down, making for some rad rushdown and etc. definitely better than mika and birdie IMO. who are you using in sfa3?

Is the PSP version easy to control with it's crappy D-pad and Analog stick

the kind of PSP you have makes all the difference. i had a 1000 first with this game, tried and never wanted to play it. but with my 3000 its as easy as a playstation controller. ignore the analog stick btw. i also hear the 2000 slims are fine with sfa3. if you have a 1000 and wanna play, you can mod your psp d-pad, its very simple

I have a 2000 don't really like the D-Pad though.

you'll be totally fine with a psp 2000. psp sfa3 controls take a little getting used to but it's definitely do-able. hell, if you're interested in playing it, i'll personally find you the cheapest possible online copy. wanna spread the sfa3max love =D

silasam - March 21, 2009 08:09 PM (GMT)
on further notice, i think we should all pick this game up again (dur =p). once i get a ps3 to play sfa3max online, i'll start organizing online matches for anyone interested. yeah the reputation says the game's a little broken, but so far people i've met around here wouldn't play tippity top tiers abusing v-ism or other things that make it that way. i think we could really have some fun.

and more importantly, my v-adon has definitely surpassed my v-fei (=P). dunno about my a-fei though. i can now CC off of anti airs instead of being limited to ground CC's (use b.HK when they're in range). guard crush and confusion with a pretty sweet VC2 LK jaguar kick, HK jaguar kick mix up combo. even when i GC them with a low CC meter, by then they'll be in the corner so i can follow up with a (s.MK xx rising jag, s.MP xx rising jag) for solid damage. by all means, please flip out so i can hit you harder. =P you can also fly into a ground CC with a LK. jaguar kick cancelled quickly into HK rising jag, just though i'd throw that in there since you aren't always close enough for a lone rising jag.

i know that playing the computer isn't like playing people, but i think if i'm able to complete 100 vs kumite with a non-entry v-adon i'll be able to call him good. i can't say he's better than my a-fei still because a-fei is capable of BIG damage. although, i have to play defensively alot of the time against v-ism. i'll probably post my fei strats too in case, there's nothing but a scrubby fei guide on gameFAQS of which doesn't even include strats, matchups, or ism advantages =\

Some tournament A3 videos. If anyone is really interested in playing A3 well, they should get GGPO. Even though it's normal A3, the online is better than anything adhoc or xlink could offer

THTB - March 24, 2009 12:45 AM (GMT)
2000-series has a crap d-pad for SFA3 Max. They need to make the game a downloadable for PS3 or something.

silasam - March 24, 2009 02:45 AM (GMT)
do you also mean compared to the psp-1000?

ps. ignore the hate, most are quick to point out flaws but forget to include the positives xD

Sugami - March 24, 2009 10:49 AM (GMT)
I didn't realise there were multiple versions of the PSP :P Better than playing it is GBA/DS since there are only 4 buttons XD

I don't know about in comparison to the 1000 series, but the 2000 series d-pad is bad.

The way it feels, you can tell stuff won't be responsive on it.

silasam - March 27, 2009 02:03 AM (GMT)
actually tay, the "hate" thing was directed much much more towards forte, not you. i wouldn't go against my commanding officer here at the DBC if i were ever to be worthy of mod xD. SFA3max has control settings that can make it super easy until you get the hang of it, like easier commands and more time to put them in, and even one button specials/supers (which i wouldn't use).

and the psp-1000 is worse by about three football fields. psp has always been my favorite, but even i had no choice but to upgrade to the 3000

Soriphen - April 1, 2009 03:54 AM (GMT)
I just made this recently to test out remotejoy and converting the video. I'm trying to find the best quality. Let me know how you think of my combos as well xD.

update! (xP) first things first.

eff yes. me and sori are doing a sick combo vid for SFA3MAX, and i'm doing a matching FAQ to go along with it. it's going to be incredible, and showcase what i'm capable of creating and sori is capable of executing and editing. if you like SFA3 or combo vids, you probably won't be disappointed. anyone want any specific characters combos done? i can probably get them in there for ya. and any other ideas for the vid or the FAQ would be majorly appreciated.

i predict that yun is going to be placed reasonably high in the tier list, much moreso than the other PSP only characters (even ingrid). capable of big, easy, and practical custom combos, and just devastatingly damaging combos in X and A. not to mention bnb's and other combos in all isms that are just stunning to watch. his rolling shoulder move can beat and/or avoid SO many moves, making him able to keep up with the highest tiers, and to be specific: most of sim's standing reglars and all his specials, all the shoto's (including sakura) fireballs and tatsumakis (=o), any sonic boom type move (charlie, deejay, and guide come to mind), cody's stupid zone rocks, sodom's jp. and mp. jittles, gief's lariats (=o), and blanka balls. the list is MUCH longer but that should give a general idea. till next time guys, thanks.
