So what does everyone think about this new episode on Wednsday. It's supposed to be about a person that actually hunts people. I think this is actually based off a real case. As I've posted before, I've read a book by a man named John Douglas, the person who started the actual BSU (BAU) and one of the many cases he describes is about a man in Alaska who would kidnap prostitutes, fly them out to his cabin, let them go, wait a day, and then go out and hunt them. It's pretty sickuser posted image but I think it will make for a good case for the BAU to investigate. :) I'm pretty excited, how about you guys? :)

I love this show! - May 2, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
Sounds creepy! Wasn't there a Gilliagan's Island episode about a man who played this game? (I'm being totally serious!) He came to the island and wanted to do some hunting (and of course promised to have them rescued when it was over) and gave himself 24hrs to hunt down Gilliagan but when he failed to do it he left without them saying he would be arrested if anyone found out he had been hunting humans. So the idea real or not has been out there for many years. Somehow I think this will be a little more serious than that.

I'm just ready for ANY new episode! It seems like it's been forever since the last one. Any word on Doubt? Do we think it will ever be aired (or at least make a season 2 DVD?) I hope so - I hate the thought of an episode being out there that we haven't seen.

LeucaBleu - May 2, 2007 04:30 AM (GMT)
I know there's a fictional short story like this episode called The Most Dangerous Game.

I read it when I was in ninth grade English (eons ago... ) and it was about this guy who took these people to his mansion, held them for a little while and then let them loose on his estate, where he hunted them one by one.

Now that I think about it, there was also an episode of The Simpsons where Mr. Burns went after some of the characters in a similar fashion. (I think it was part of a Halloween episode, but I don't remember which one.)

So there's my perspective.

Mandarina - May 2, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
Well, human hunting is a recurrent fictional theme... I know at least one film based on that idea, and I guess the book "Lord of the Flies"is the classic reference (pretty hunter boys.. so creepy)
I want to see the ep, yay!

Only 5 more hours! :D This will be like the first new eppy in FOREVER!

**spoilers**

I thought that was a really good episode! I loved the beginning. (especially Garcia's "Kwan-tee-Ko") and the girls pulling out their badges....too funny!

The story was very creepy but exciting. Identifying the unsubs seemed a little too easy and convenient. And I didn't really find the girl's behavior at the end very believeable. (she didn't seem at all freaked out.....just mad at the unsub????)

And Prentiss at the end commenting that they think just like them - hello....doesn't the fact that the BAU team doesn't have evil intent make a little bit of a difference? I just thought that was weird because they are obviously NOT like the unsub's they catch.

Overall I thought it was good though and I liked it.

LeucaBleu - May 3, 2007 04:40 AM (GMT)
Not too bad...but yes, the "FBI Femme Trap" at the beginning was the best part!

Special Agent Jentzer - May 3, 2007 06:19 AM (GMT)
music...ponder why they would use Band of Horses (?) again?
I used to be a ranger, up here in the rocky mountains......
Garcia always gets left at home :(
JJ seemed to expand her role, as a SSA should do, teach, train, coach and educate....

Was not wow.wow..... :( (am I jaded.....we all know why)...but different, the team really split up for the whole epsiode. I enjoyed that, the communication was good. I liked the change of scenery.

Wack job family eh, all those drivers licenses. And prentiss and morgan on the plane at the end was interesting.

And Lord Of The Flies was great!

I know there's a fictional short story like this episode called The Most Dangerous Game.

This is a the short story by Richard Edward Connell. For the novel by Gavin Lyall, see The Most Dangerous Game (1963).
"The Most Dangerous Game" (1924) is a famous short story by Richard Connell and the author's most well-known work. It concerns a big-game hunter trapped on the island of a fellow hunter who, bored with conventional prey, has come to see humans as the only quarry worthy of his skill ("human hunting").

you're to funny!!

That was the one a hunter decides to hunt Gilligan while the others struggle to interfere with the hunt. Gilligan wins-and Kincaid the hunter goes insane, and swims home!!

But, it was one of my favourite episodes.
And Jake Richardson is one of my favourite actorsd, so that rocked too

Whoa! Wait a minute....tell me you did research to find the name of the hunter was "Kincaid" - or did you really know that!???!! And I thought I was bad. But it makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one who can reference Gilligan's Island! :)

CriminalMindsFan - May 3, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
I thought the beginning was **in my best Tony the Tiger voice** GREAT!!! :D . I just love how real it was and how it showed their playful sides. The thing I didn't like is how we got to know who the unsub was right away and it took like no time at all for the BAU to figure them out.

When I heard Prentiss say that, I turned to my dad and said "Looks like we got another Elle on our hands". It seemed very Ellelike to say that they weren't that different. (Please don't kill me for that Jentzer :( )

Well, overall it was a good episode, I was just thankful for it being new. :D

Special Agent Jentzer - May 3, 2007 11:25 PM (GMT)
;) no no, I thought it was weird as well...still pondering.......

Are the BAU agents the hunters hunting the hunter who is hunting?
What was up with Gideon and the dying kid?
Not so sure I like the music from "Band of Horses"?
Reid.....regular boy size please?
Kwan-Teak-Oh.......priceless!!
You the Man.....No, You the Man......love Hotch!!
Prentiss drinks beer from MUG....learning to love... <_<
When I die, I hope it is the kind gentle soul of SSA Gideon by my side...is he this forgiving?

This episode sort of reminded me of Machismo and had the feel of the Boogeyman. (forest and all). That's funny I thought of poor JJ in the woods!! (but was she sort of pulling their leg with her murder story and the caretaker).
At the end it sort of brought back that feeling of "revenge" and being able to vent your demons and talk about the horrific experience that this unsub has put you through. For a victim, I thought of elle, who was never able to scream "I win You Bastard" to either "the fischer king" or to her other demon. And with Dr Reid, he held his friend "Tibias" in his arms and at least was able to console him as he died.
In Machismo, the towns "daughters" not only figured out who the unsub was before "the team", but were able to "take care of business" for them.
I wondered why Bobby Brown didn't slice the guys throat when she had the chance, although I guess she clearly got in killer body shots.

Not wow, but it was OK.

I don't think so at all. They are trained to try and guess what the criminal will do next based on statisics and other factors but that doesn't mean they are like them. Like I said before they don't have the evil intent.

Gideon.....I think at first he didn't realize the kid was even an unsub, just a victim and then I think maybe he felt like he was a victim too (because of his uncle) But mostly I thought that's just who Gideon is: I think he has a real compassion for humanity and even though that kid didn't deserve it, he knew this kid only had a few minutes to live and felt compelled to comfort him. I always imagine Gideon being the type (because he is religious) that feels justice is ultimately in God's hands and he tries to treat people in the way he thinks is right because he believes he will face God too.

The girl, Bobbi Brown, I just thought her reaction was weird. I can see being angry and wanting revenge but I think when the unsubs were caught and she wasn't in danger anymore, you would move out of survival mode and the reality of what had just happened would hit and you would be more likely to break down at that point.

The beginning was still the best part of the episode! "What is it like at Quan - Tee - Ko?" That was too funny!

I have mixed feelings about that. I definitely see where she's coming from on how they have to find them and sometimes take them down but I also disagree because they do it for the good of humanity and they take down the bad guys. Yeah, I know, I'm

Of course. That's why he has all those photos of children in his office..."Gideon's Children" as they are collectively called.

Jason...Mandy...whoever...just as long as they act like that!

When the first unsub died, this quote came to mind...I don't know if it's actually the prayer the Jews say when one of their own dies (since I read it in a fictional book), but I thought of it because Mandy is Jewish.

I'm neither Jewess nor anything similar, but I still thought that was nice and I could imagine Mandy saying it. ^_^

i thought the episode was alright. it had a lot of suspense, but i thought it lacked a bit of creepiness that most of the other CM episodes have. I LOVED the ladies night out scene. poor guy. shown up by three female FBI agents. As you guys have said, they found out who the unsubs were, way too soon. It was alright, but ive seen better.

LeucaBleu - May 4, 2007 05:49 AM (GMT)
*shivers* Just the previews of next week's ep gave me the collywobbles! I think it's going to be another one of those episodes where I hide my head under my blanket. (Or perhaps in one of the couch pillows, should it prove too warm for a blanket.)

I don't think so at all.

I agree with you. They are "hunters" only in that they hunt those who harm others. Yes, both parties look for clues and try to outsmart their prey, but one does so for personal gratification; the other does it to protect society. While I understand that Prentiss was reflecting back on her reply to Bobbi ("Because they don't think like you and me."), I thought it was weird that she had begun to compare the work that she and her colleagues do to that of a couple of serial killers.

I enjoyed the episode, thought I admit, it was a bit creepy. Still, I found it interesting that the writers humanized Paul and Johnny; that's a rarity, and one of the things I've always admired about the show. The team has brought down some horrific criminals, but by getting inside the heads of these people, the writers allow us to see how human beings can become monsters.

I also appreciated that Bobbi wasn't the stereotypical female victim; instead of cowering under a tree, she fought back. It reminded me of an earlier episode in which a woman, trapped in her SUV with the killer, drives maniacally in an attempt to distract him so she can get away (not sure which ep that was). I thought Bobbi's "I had all the fun" comment was a bit odd, though. I don't think it would be fun to be hunted by a couple of killers who'd murdered four innocent people in front of me.

On a side note, I'm beginning to wonder just how long Reid's hair will be by the start of season three. :D

FYI that was Charm & Harm from season one.

I agree with you Bren that Bobbi's behavior was odd. (sidenote: why have you not joined the forum? I enjoy your comments!)

I think MGG/Reid's last haircut was during the break between season one and two so maybe he'll get a haircut again before they begin shooting season three. (I think his hair is becoming prettier than mine!)

I thought it was probably real because it was from a historical fiction novel, but not being too familiar with Judaism, I wouldn't know.

Well, I think that episode is a "classical CM" one. It was not very focused on any member of the team, but on the case they investigated.

It was not even focused on the killers, either. I think it was focused on the victim. She´s one of the few victims on the show who has fought for her life ( obviously, she had a chance cause the unsubs gave it to her) So unsubs´s identification was not the point, I think. Survival was the point. And that´s the reason for which I don´t find girl´s behaviour surprising... She´s tired, she´s overexcited, she´s full of anger and aggressiveness. Probably she felt down a bit after, but not then.

As for Emily, well, it´s logical you ask yourself certain kind of question when you have a job like hers. I think she meant that they and the unsubs are similar because of the hunting act, regardless of final intentions ( the entire episode was a parallelism between human hunt and animal hunt, and in the nature there are no good and evil, just hunters and preys)

Very interesting perspective. I hadn't thought of it that way but I think you're right.....survival was the point.

I don't agree on the girl's behavior. I still think it was strange. I can see how she could be so aggressive when in "survival" mode but when it was over, it just seems like the normal reaction would be to have a flood of emotions hit you - not continue to stay in attack mode. And the comment about her having all the fun....weird.

As for your comments on Emily.....okay I get the hunter/prey arguement (maybe that one is just too deep for me  ) Still doesn't work for me though because the criminals are just following their instincts the profilers are trained to hunt, it really doesn't come naturally to them which is what I think is the difference.

Very good thoughts! I like this kind of discussion. :D

He, he! Yeah, different points of view make discussions interesting :D

Back to the victim, actually she´s not a common one. Maybe she wouldn´t have survived if she would have been... And now I´m not only talking about her behaviour over the hunt, but about her temper in general: I don´t think much people will act like her did on a similar situation because their personality won´t let them react like that ( in despite of the need)

Just aired in Brasil, where I am.

Man, I just watched it and... my God, I couldn't care less abou the victims, they annoyed me, but the unsubs were fantastic! And Gideon holding John's cheek and watching him die, offering the bad guy some comfort, it was almost as he was talking ot his own son, not with a criminal mind.

I'm liking this show!

Yes, I really liked Gideon in this episode. Sometimes he comes across as so business-like but I like seeing the glimpses of compassion with the unsubs (and I like to see him with Reid too when he's like the "father")

JulieFan - November 15, 2007 07:39 PM (GMT)
I saw it yesterday. My parents thought it was an suspenseful episode. They kept saying 'those men are out of their mind' about 20 times..

The ending with Gideon, they made you feel a bit sorry for the guy although he is evil!

And was it me but I thought the acting of Alex's father was really fake...... If your kid died you sure would be more upset than that!

I love this show! - November 15, 2007 10:42 PM (GMT)
I think a lot of people weren't too crazy about this episode but I actually liked it. I thought the unsubs were interesting (and played well) and I particularly liked Gideon in this episode.

I thought the girl's reaction at the end was weird and unbelievable to me.
