OOC: Alright, the last part is a little deprived of subject, but as my first I think I did pretty good. It goes faster once you have something to write about. I had made a table, my best table ever. And I had fixed it up and re-coded and everything, but guess what? It didn't work!! So I have sunken to just normal text...angry.gif And I relize that the last part doesn't flow as much as I would like, but I don't really care.

The night air was very cold, and the stars twinkled. If cold could be a color, the stars would be that hue. The moon didn’t help much either, as it signified another day gone by without anything new except more intense hunger pains. Onyx’s black fur blended in with the sky, and her claws flashed just like the stars, and it was as though the night itself had come down onto The Earth just to tease and torment her. She sighed and laid her head down onto her paws and curled her legs in, making herself into a ball to try to keep warm. Every third day seemed to get colder, and each night the sky got darker. Her blue eyes drifted from the sky to the ground when she heard rustling in the grass, but it always turned out to be a rabbit or squirrel out late at night, or once or twice it wasn’t anything or she didn’t get to see it. She finally settled down into into sleep when she got tired of being skittish from sounds that weren’t.
.::..::.
.::..::.
She was walking in a densely forested area she regignized as Dyardin, and although it was night she could tell that something was wrong. The shadows were too dark, and when she looked at the trees she saw faces, faces that had been dead a long time, faces she remembered as trouble makers and traitors. All the faces wore a grotesque smile, and their eyes followed her as she walked. Something wade her stop in her tracks, and when she looked around she saw the shadows were even bigger. That’s what was wrong, the shadows were nothing, they held nothing, they were nothing, and certainty was darker than nothing. Then she relized she was standing in a shadow, and she fell. Fell into a pit of dispair and loneliness, a pit that never ended.
.::..::.
.::..::.
The morning dawned bright and cheerfully, but Onyx had never felt worse. She was achy all-over, even her claws hurt. The lack of food and water were starting to ravage her, even though she couldn’t do anything about it. A squirrel walked up to a thick clump of grass near Onyx, a twig snapped and she started. The squirrel shop past her, alarmed. Onyx sighed, she was so jumpy from the sounds last night. She licked her paw and swiped it over her ears. She sat and listened to the morning sounds of birds twittering and and the cracking of nuts the squirrels had found. It was
going to be a long, and painful, day.

Do you ever feel the pull of the grass, the wind, or the trees? The howl of a wolf, or the chirp of a bird, and the way it rings through the still night air without end? The Wild is calling you...will you answer?

ooc;
ic:-- this post is kinda blah D:

The brown mare galloped over the open grassland, enjoying her first real run in days. As her hooves hit the ground she felt the exhilarating rush of the wind in her mane and the warmth of the sun on her back. It was a beautiful morning, and Selene was painfully reminded of her homeland, where everything had been bright and open, just like this. But, after all, this was the very reason she had settled here. Enjoying the scenery and peacefulness, she slowed to a walk, and cast chocolate eyes over the open fields. Finding this land had been like finding an oasis in a desert to Selene. For the past year she had wandered on her own hoping for a land as bright and welcoming as this. She had at long last found this place, somewhere she felt genuinely at home at. The very ground she walked on seemed to have a sense well-being, as if it was protected by ancient unseen forces. But, there was also evil there, although it was less noticable than the good. It was so beautiful and seemingly safe; just the kind of thing Selene wanted in a place. Here and there she saw things moving through the grass, but they all were harmless creatures, and she took no heed of them. And even better than the contentment of the land, Selene had not found any clues to tell her that those terrible two-legged beasts were around.

She gradually increased her pace again, and was soon back to the wonderful euphoria of running, her own little escape from reality. Over and over again she went through the careful leg patterns of a gallop, and the scenery flew by. As Selene neared the foot of a gentle hill, she rushed at it head on. Gathering speed she raced over it. Looking up briefly at the open sky, she realized that she felt better than she had in ages. She could scarcely remember the last time she had felt so wonderful. The mare paused at the top of the small hill and looked down towards to other side of it, where the seemingly endless expanse of rolling plain continued on and out of sight. Watching the grass sway back and forth in the gentle breeze, she drifted off into her own thoughts, and out of reality.

Suddenly, her reverie was broken, and she was thrust violently back into the real world as she saw the grass waver, and an alarmed squirrel race out of sight. She nervously scanned the horizon, eyes wide open to any hint of danger that would set her running back in the direction she had came. Selene knew she shouldn’t be so suspicious of such things, the squirrel was probably just spooked by rabbit or something; it wasn’t a cause for great alarm. But her experiences from her travels had made her weary, and she stood rooted to her spot on the top of the little hill. Something inside her was telling her to watch the space in front of her, some long ingnored instinct. Gently the wind blew the grasses back and forth, and she noticed something—a little glimpse of jet black fur in between the grass. She turned her large, equine eyes towards it, and the grass blew back, and forth, and back again. When at last she was about to turn away, the grass again parted and she saw a frighteningly odd creature, like nothing she had ever encountered on all her travels. It was HUGE—and black, and so completely different than anything Selene had ever seen before that she was overcome with an uncharacteristic and overwhelming wave of curiosity. All hints of fear forgotten, the mare trotted down the slope and into the grasses below. Halting just twenty feet away from the strange animal, she examined its markings and bushy tail, until, curiosity fueling her bravery, she asked, “What in the world are you?”

OOC: I do this every time. I deleted my first reply, although it wasn’t finished. It just makes me feel so stupid everytime I do these kinda of things.

Onyx could sense that something was about to happen. There was a pounding on the ground, a pounding she was not used to, and it made her coutious. She had learned to be very careful during the year of roaming she had been doing, even though she encountered few, including the squirrels and birds. They had not gottened close to her, and she hadn’t bothered to try either. Even if she did catch one, it would not satisfy her hunger. Her father had tought her to never catch something that did not satisfy hunger. “Every life form has a purpose, and taking a life without purpose would soon upset the delicate balance of life.” He had said every time she went for a squirrel, and she had finaly stopped going for them altogether. She learned that she needed to go for better, and larger prey. Her father valued life, and respected life in all forms.

The air was very thin, giving way to many smells. Onyx lifted her deep blue gaze from the ground the long grass in front of her. She had seen movement, other than that of the grass swishing almost violently back and forth. She fixed her eyes on the spot where she tohught she saw a streak of tan fur, silently scenting the air for any hint of danger. There it was, the wind gave it all too easily away, the thin air not capable of containing it, and the swift currants of air didn’t help to conseal it either. She had made a nest, so to speak, out of the long grass she had flattened over-night, and a few stringy twigs. A stray grass blade tickled her eye, and she twitched it away. She had to concentrate on that smell. The grass suddenly moved aside completely, and revealed what she had been scenting. It was very large, tan with very long dark brown hair sprouting from one end and a... a neck in a long strip. It was on stilts, or, it looked that way. She coulds tell it was an animal only by its face, which lay upon it long neck. It turned to face her and strode up to Onyx, who was sitting stock still. She didn’t know what to do. It stopped twenty feet from her, and Onyx still hadn’t moved a muscle. It seemed to look her over, as though she was a little child cought in the act of stealing cookies from the cookie jar when mom had told her not to. It stood over her by five feet, and that fact didn’t help Onyx relax. Then, it spoke. “What in the world are you?”. Onyx closed her eyes, wondering if the dream was really over, and when she opened them again, she started, finally moving. She forced herself to calm down and take deep breaths, not wanting to startle the animal. “I-I-I’am a Keipen,” She stammered, hardly able to talk. Onyx thought that the animal was a little too brave for its own good, walking up to somthing almost as large as it wouldn’t be a good idea to her. After the introductery fear was gone, she looked at it more closely. It is pretty, she thought to herself. Its mane mingled in with the lighter tone of her fur, and the white on it’s head did give a elegent manner of the animal. Its tail fluttered in the increasing wind, and when the gusts stopped, it fell back in curls at its flanks. She had now calmed down enough to breathe without effort, and her breath didn’t come in gaspes, it came easy and steady.

OOC: I didn’t make very much progress, but if you think it’s good, you can go ahead and post a reply. If not, you can PM me and I’ll extend it a little.

ooc; Nah, the posts okay. Mine's kind of short though. /:

Selene had just now realized that she had made a huge mistake. The animal was almost as tall as her, with big paws that looked as if they concealed razor sharp claws. It would probably attack her any minute, and those claws would bring her down. The animal had a sense of power, with lithe muscles under the jet black fur. Her legs involuntarily bunched up and prepared her to run, the wave of curiosity was as gone as her lost father. The creature was shaking like a leaf in the autumn wind, and her breaths were coming in short gasps. Selene was just about to turn tail and run back up the little hill, when the black creature managed to stammer, “I-I-I’m a Keipen.”

To Selene the word seemed foreign and exotic on her tongue. She had never heard it before, but she had never seen this kind of thing before, either. That uncharacteristic curiosity threatened to creep back into Selene’s legs, and bounce her forward towards the creature, but she carefully ignored the instinct. Standing her ground, still ready to run if the creature made any sudden movements, she tried out the new word, “Keipen.” The Keipan seamed to have calmed down quite a bit, now being able to breathe easily. It seemed to be genuinely interested in her now. In turn Selene looked at the Keipen, noticing its small curl-shaped, blue marks above each eye. She supposed she should introduce herself to the animal even though she was weary, for she had always been taught to be polite.

“Hey, I’m Selene. Sorry for running up to you like that, I’m not sure what came over me.” She managed to say, trying her hardest not to make her voice waver. “Sorry if I scared you. Truth is you scared me a little too.” She ventured to walk a few steps closer to this animal. Close enough to just see the color of her eyes, the same shade of blue as the little markings above her eyes. “I’ve never seen one of you before.”

OOC: *stares blankly at the screen* I can’t believe how long that took. All I can say is, I am sorry. I just found that I layed out a difficult setting for myself... Oh well. What’s life without challenges, eh?

Onyx was more relaxed than when it had come up to her, but she was still very coutious. The creature seemed to relize what it had walked up to, and it looked a little scared. The air was full of a prickly silence, only interupted by the gusts of wind unbroken from trees. A hunger pain throbbed in Onyx. The world infront of her seemed to shift, as though the wind was pushing it this way and that. She felt dizzy. Another pain hit her, but not from hunger, but from thirst. She took deap breaths, and the pain subsided. She knew that it would come back, but she had something else to deal with right now. The world straightened itself and the dizziness eased, although it didn’t go away completely. As she recovered, she stared out at the new found creature, her mind on what to do next. She wasn’t excactly afraid, but she still wasn’t sure about it. This was something different in the routine days, and even though she had been hoping for a day like this, she still wasn’t sure she liked it. She might not have relized it, but she had wanted something... smaller. Not this. She closed her eyes, almost drifitng into a shallow sleep. “Keipen” The sound startled her, and she opened her eyes. Onyz had zoned out for a bit there, forgetting where she was and what she was doing. She hadn’t expected to hear anything, especialy from the creature. The creature sounded uncertain about what it was saying, as though it had never heard of such a word. Maybe it hadn’t, Onyx thought. “Hey, I’m Selene. Sorry for running up to you like that, I’m not sure what came over me.” From the words from the creature’s vocals Onyx could tell that it was trying hard to keep it steady. “Sorry if I scared you. Truth is you scared me a little too.” The creature edged closer a few steps. “I’ve never seen one of you before.” Onyx blinked. Ok, just focus. Listen to the words, and reply. You’ll be fine. She told herself. Trying not to scrunch up her features with effort, and think, she concentrated on a reply. The words formed in her mind, and she spoke them, though not looking directly at the creature, but gazing past it and into the never-ending vast blue sky. “I didn’t mean to scare you...” Her voice trailed off. Onyx looked back at the creature, for she didn’t want to seem desperate or distant, and truth was, it was good to finally have the company of another being, even if it was bigger than herself.

OOC: Note to self: When bored on the computer, that is a good time to start back up on that RP post that has been sitting there collecting dust. One more comment I have that I feel like I need to add is that I didn’t make much progress on it but I really really didn’t want to make you wait any longer, so...

ooc; So, so sorry for the wait Heart... Computer troubles! Just got the old comp fixed it's only been short of a month, though it feels like a century. Oh well, here goes!

The dark creature seemed to be having difficulties speaking. Her face was screwed up in concentration as her tongue tried to form words. Waiting, Selene contented herself to marvel at the keipan in front of her. It was alarmingly thin, and looked as if food was scarce wherever she was coming from. The out-of-place feeling of immense curiosity was returning as her initial fear of the creature gradually vanished. Her long, muscular legs could certainly outrun the shorter ones of the keipan in front of her. She thought to herself, ‘What’s wrong with a little bit of healthy interest? After all, this is a new experience you don’t get to have everyday.’ She weighed the consequences of this as the words of her father played in her brown head, “It’s always better to be cautious then curious.” She thought about him a lot, almost everyday. His company had been all she’d known for the past years, and their separation had left Selene all alone with too much time to think. She had to fight of constant visions of her past and confront the frightening void that was her uncertain future. Even if this jet –black creature was a potential threat, she had to admit is was nice to finally be talking to more than herself. This black animal was the first being she had seen in weeks, and having an intelligent conversation with someone who would actually respond was strangely exciting.

The silence hung heavy in the air, though Selene itched to speak. Her curiosity was nearing an overload, despite her better instincts. She wanted to know so many things; where this creature was from, what was it’s name, what was it doing here in this new land? She couldn’t stand this silence any longer. Just when the horse was about to speak, the keipan beat her to it.

“I didn’t mean to scare you…”

The words faded, and the awkward silence returned. She looked into the keipans deep blue eyes, as it was now staring intently at her. Selene was growing uncomfortable under its gaze, and retreated a few yards, suddenly weary again. There was something about those eyes that unsettled her. Still the curiosity was there, and it burned. Comfortable with the distance, she broke the prickly silence.

“You just gave me a bit of a fright, with your size and all. It’s okay, though. Are you new here?” Selene spoke trying to satisfy her own curiosity, but at the same time trying not to sound too nosy or invasive. Besides, if she could make friends with this new creature, the conversation and company would be worth the fright.
