[Dr. Jenni Thompson]

after several argument jenni had managed to let jacob and richard let her come back to work earlier than planned. she wasn't working anywhere near the hours she used to, it was only for a few hours at a time but it had her working again and it also got her out of the house. nate was normally in the hospital nursery or at jacob's fathers, jenni always tried to push for the nursery because whenever she got a break she would go and see him for a while. it was also easier in case anything had happened. not that anything had happened yet but jenni had really turned into the protective mother and she hated the idea of being more than a few minutes away from nate. she knew that it was just maternal instinct that had kicked in and it had kicked in hard. but, the time off had made her notice how much she actually loved her job, it was nice to be back in her scrubs and have her lab coat on and being a doctor. she wasn't on large cases, it was mostly just follow ups and consults with different specialities but she done that most of the time anyway.

since she was on oncology, she took the sly opportunity to look over mark's notes. sitting behind one of the nurses desk's that only had one nurse there at the time, she slipped on her glasses before flipped through the most recent notes. she was swallowing back the pain and fear that was rising through her body, her eyes skimming through the notes that were on the paper, she couldn't believe him. and the pain, hurt and everything else just turned into anger. pushing the chair back, she quickly stood up, making her way to mark's room, she practically swung the door open, she was surprised that it didn't come off it's hinges. "anything you want to tell him?" she asked, almost shouting at him as the door swung closed behind her. she hadn't had the time to take her glasses, she didn't even notice that she still had them on. she just couldn't believe that he couldn't even be bothered to text her or ring her or anything.

Mark was tired. He had been able to get out for a day to see Holly's ballet preformance,but now he was back in the hospital waiting for a bone marrow transplant. Addison and the kids had already been tested by the results hadn't come back yet. Mark was so tired right now that all he wanted to do was sleep. He had been feeling better and now,knowing that there wasn't much to be done,made Mark super depressed. He was so done fighting this. If he happened to get a transplant,great,if not then at least the pain would be ending soon.Mark was in a lot of pain now and he had learned to hide it from everyone so they didn't give him drugs that made him all loopy.

He was sitting up in bed for the first time all week when Jenni came storming into his private room. He hadn't known she was coming back to work just yet and boy she looked madder than a hornet right now.Mark raised a hairless eyebrow at her and asked"What the hell is your problem Jenni?"Her storming in had just caused a massive headache and Mark hoped that it would pass soon.

jenni looked at him and shook her head, scoffing slightly, she couldn't believe that he had know idea what she was on about. she just wanted to scream at him, get everything out of her system, out of her body, because he just caused her emotions to go from one thing to another within a matter of seconds and it was really starting to annoy her. "you think i wouldn't read your chart. you think that you could just get away with telling me that your treatment wasn't working. i should have known the fact that half the hospital is getting tested for a bone marrow transplant was to do with you." she snapped at him, she wouldn't tell him that she had been tested, she just never put two and two together, she didn't find out who it was for but she was the type of person who would do something like that for a random stranger, she had always been like that. shaking her head, she honestly couldn't believe that he had just kept all this a secret from her. "so i take it the other week meant nothing to you." she muttered, looking down at the floor, how had she been so stupid, of course it meant nothing to him, she was more than likely just a release, a nice little break from addison and the children.

[Dr. Mark Sloan]

Mark had forgotten that the hospital staff was getting tested to try and match him. He remebered Addison telling him that. He should have called Jenni but he hadn't done that.He hadn't really had a chance to do that;.He should have realized that she would be reading his chart,but he hadn't even thought of that.He could tell that she was upset and her last statement confirmed that"Don't be stupid Jenni. When I held you in my arms the last time,that fucking meant something to me. Don't you ever hint otherwise."Mark growled.He couldn't remember how many weeks had passed since that last time.All he remembered was that she had gotten her release from him and then she had left his room to make sure that her fiancee's father wasn't getting suspicious.Mark eyed her and added"As for the bone marrow drive, I didn't ask Richard to do that. Addison did. She talked Richard into it."Mark knew that Jenni was scared and truthfully so was her.He was also looking forward to being released from pain.

jenni looked at him when he spoke, her eyes stayed on his own, she pulled off her glasses and slipped them into her lab coat pocket. biting down on her lip, she had no idea what to say to that, the whole thing had just wound her up the wrong way and it had annoyed her so much. when he pointed out that the testing was addison's doing, she slowly nodded her head, if she had found out herself what was going on she would have been tested anyway. "we're the same blood type, but that means nothing with this test" she muttered, she knew that their matching blood type didn't mean anything because it had nothing to do with it. she knew that this sounded slightly horrible but she would feel slightly smug if she matched with mark and addison didn't. it would more than likely piss her off, and it would kinda make jenni feel a tiny little bit better. "i found out the results either later today or tomorrow. richard put a rush on it." she added, she had calmed down, she couldn't believe what she had read and it had annoyed her even more than she hadn't been told about it. maybe he didn't have the chance but he must have found out a while ago.

Mark may have promised a lot of people that he was going to fight this but he really was so tired of always being sick and puking and just feeling no energy.He was ready to feel better again.Mark knew that neither Jenni nor Addison would understand that. He didn't want to leave his kids alone without a father,but he really wasn't wanting to live.When Jenni talked about their blood types being the same,Mark nodded. He really had no idea that he and Jenni had the same blood types. He also knew that it had no bearing on the results. When Jenni told him that Richard would have the results today or tomorrow,Mark nodded"How many people got tested?"Mark asked curiously. He knew Addison and the kids had.He had a feeling that Alex and Cristina had.He just wasn't sure about anyone else.

jenni shrugged, she had no idea how many people had been tested, she had a feeling that the chief just asked a few people to be tested, she didn't know that it had anything to do with mark at the time. so unless everyone knew who it was for, then she had a feeling she would be able to tell him who had been tested. she had no idea if people like cristina and alex knew. "i don't know, i don't know who knows it's for you. i only found out by looking through your chart." she pointed out, pushing her hair out of her eyes. she never had her ring on at work, she always kept it locked up in her locker. they really only couldn't have them on in surgery but jenni didn't like wearing it around work, so many germs can get under the ring. "i can't believe this is happening." she whispered, she hated feeling helpless, she felt like she couldn't do anything now, she had been tested and it was just waiting for whatever the result was. but now she wanted to find out as soon as possible, she felt like she needed to know. someone in the whole hospital had to be a match. she needed someone to be a match,

Mark knew that Jenni was upset and he wished he could do something to comfort her.He smiled at her she looked at him. He put his magazine up on the roller table and turned his grey-blue eyes back to her. He wanted her to know that he had never fallen out of love with her and he never would,but right now it was obvious how scared she was.When Jenni told him that she didn't know if anyone knew it was for him,Mark nodded. Mark could still hardly believe that Jenni had read his chart"Since when did you become my doctor anyway?"Mark asked Jenni with annother raise of his hairless eyebrow. When she spoke for the last time,Mark sighed. He too couldn't believe that this was happening. He wanted to walk Holly down the aisle and the truth was,he probably wouldn't get to do that"I know Jenni. I can't believe this is happening either."Mark told her softly. If she was a match for him,Mark wasn't sure how they would deal with it.At least there would be no suspicions raised from Jacob or Addison.

jenni looked up at him, maybe she shouldn't have been reading his chart, she really shouldn't but it was there and she couldn't help herself. anyway, she could easily come up with an excuse if anyone ended up asking her, and she was going to use to to get her out of this. she was sure that he hardly minded about it, she was going to find out that it had been for mark sooner or later. running her tongue across her bottom lip, her slightly dry lips getting to her. "because, i am helping out with oncology, looking over cases that they might need my help. and i picked up yours." she told him, she had been told to do something like that but she had been told the cases that mainly needed her help and in truth, she had just been given the room numbers and she never really noticed until she looked that mark had been one of them. but she would do some more research but there wasn't much that she could do right now. she hated it because there wasn't a lot she could do in oncology. "i can't deal with you dying as well." she muttered, she was scared that she was a curse, and mark would end up dying and then she would connect with jacob again and just as everything was going fine, he would end up with some sort of cancer and end up dying.

Mark wasn't really angry with her.He was definitely curious as to why she was reading his chart but he wasn't going to complain about it. He should have called her and told her what was going on. That would have made him face it though and he wasn't sure that he was ready to do that just yet"I'm sorry I didn't call you."Mark told her honestly. He really should have and he hadn't. He was glad that someone he trusted was looking after his case. He trusted Jenni and he knew she would do whatever she could to help him.When she admitted that she couldn't deal with him dying as well,Mark sighed. He too was having a tough time dealing with it"Maybe it would be better for you if I did die. Then you could move on with Jacob and Nate and forget all about me."Marm murmured quietly as he looked down at his sheet.He wanted Jenni to be happy again.

jenni nodded her head, she had a feeling that he had just been trying to get his head around the whole thing, that he was on borrowed time and this was it. that he might never get to do things in life that he might have planned earlier on in his life. jenni would have hated to get her life taken away from her, all your hopes and dreams from the future being ripped away from you and you had no control over it. "it's okay, it just shocked and annoyed me." she explained to him, she knew that it had just really got to her the moment that she had read what was going on with him. the anger just seemed to hit her before she had a chance to calm down. as he spoke, she shook her head, pushing herself off the chair and walking over to his bed and sitting down on the edge. "no, don't die on me, don't you dare die on me. i couldn't do it, it just can't deal with it. ian and then you." she pointed out, swallowing back the tears that wanted to fill up her eyes. taking hold of mark's hands, she gripped hold of them tightly. she didn't want to let go, right now, she didn't want to leave the room.

Jenni was right. He was trying to work on that realization that he was on borrowed time.He wasn't going to see or do all the things he wanted to do in his life. He would never get published in a medical journal.He would never see his kids grow up and become confident adults. Addison would be walking Holly down the aisle instead of Mark doing it.When he saw Jenni walk over to the bed he realized how much his words must have really hurt her and scared her.When Mark felt Jenni taske his hands and squeeze them,Mark looked at her"I'm serious Jenni.I complicate your life. You were happy with Jacob before I came around and fucked you all up."Mark told her. He wanted her to completely forget about him and move on.

jenni slowly shook her head, biting down on her lower lip, slowly releasing it, she didn't care if he messed up her life, or as he wanted to put it, fucked it up. it was messed up to begin with, everyone's life is messed up and if they can't admit it, then something is wrong with them. she didn't care what he wanted her to do, she wasn't just going to leave him alone, he meant so much to her, she wasn't going to let him slip out of her finger tips. it was going to hurt, she knew that if he died, it was going to hurt, like it had hurt with ian, maybe not as bad because she believe that ian was the one but she had grown so close to mark. "no, i don't care. i'm fucked up as it is, you haven't made any difference to that." she told him, looking down at his hands with a soft smile, she needed to look on the bright side, she really wanted to know about the test results, she wanted to help him. she would hate it if it came back that she wasn't a match, that she couldn't help him because that was all that she wanted to do. "if anything, i complicated yours, you could have just had all your attention on addison and the children instead of me as well." she whispered, she hated to admit it but that was the truth.

Mark really believed that Jenni's life had been fine until he had interrupted it.Mark wished that he hadn't gotten involved. He didn't want to be a homewrecker anymore and it seemed as though he had become that again.Mark really hated himself for that.He had a feeling that Jenni wasn't going to leave him alone and truthfully Mark didn't want her to leave him alone.He wanted to see her for as long as he could.When she told him that she had complicated his,Mark shook his head"No.I have a brain and I could have swtopped seeing you and remained devoted to my wife but I didn't.I have kissed you more times in the past month than I have kissed my wife."Mark reminded Jenni softly.He didn't know what the test results would show. He prayed that his kids were not a match.He didn't want them to be hurting.

jenni had a feeling that obviously his marriage hadn't been that great recently, or he could just be lying to her to make her feel better about what was happening. she didn't need to feel better, she only felt guilty when she looked at jacob, the rest of the time didn't matter. she had had a hard time over his father over why she had been at the hospital, jacob didn't question the rest of the time there. jenni had just said she was talking to a friend but his father didn't seem to believe her. maybe he was just really good at reading people and being able to tell when they're lying. "i take it things aren't so happy." she muttered, looking up at mark, her tongue darting out to wet her lips, and she was slightly nervous now about the test results, she was scared that no one was going to be a match to him. leaning forward, she pressed a soft kiss against his cheek as she pulled away, she looked into his eyes. "i missed you." she muttered, she really had missed him, she wanted to be with him, she was hoping that she wouldn't be paged away soon but she really wasn't busy at the moment. but she would love nothing more than to stay in his arms but if she couldn't have that, she really wanted to watch some kick ass surgery.
