.... Okay this makes me wonder, what idiot first decided "Hey, lets pour all kinds of cement and rocks in a river valley and see if we can stop the water!" ? SRSLY WHO DID IT? blink.gif .... i'd like to thank them! tongue.gif laugh.gif

The Hoover Dam is a great stopping point for anyone visiting the Las Vegas area. Its reasonably near by, and could possibly be on your way in or out if you make Vegas part of a road trip! smile.gif

The building of this dam is a historic event for the United States, and you can pay to go on a tour INSIDE the dam, with a short projector presentation on the history of making the dam, the blueprint of the construction, etc. Pretty well nice!

Also you can go slightly off site of the dam and relax or catch some good photos at Lake Mead, which is basically the Hoover Dam's MASSIVE reservoir.

(lol i didn't even notice but there are people chilling out down there by the beach in this photo..... i took it in 2003 gimmie a break!) rolleyes.gif

Anyway, Here is some (hopefully?) useful travelers info about the location:

Distance from Las Vegas (straight line, not by road!):

-Lake Mead Viewing Spots: 24 miles / 39 kilometers
-Hoover Dam: 32 miles / 52 kilometers

Approximate Photo Locations:

-Lake Mead: 36°6'48" N 114°50'21" W
-Hoover Dam Location: 36°00'57" N 114°44'24" W

(just enter into google earth if you actually want to travel here, or im sure theres details in Vegas if you dont have google earth, its not so far away!)

(Read About & Download Google Earth Here)

By the way:

I found an interesting secret place that i never got to check out! OMG! dry.gif ...... Actually it's probably not so secret, but i didnt go! *Drifter remembers to keep Google Earth with him from now on, on a laptop! I would think that pictures of the washout area (even though it looks like dry river bed), the mountains to the north, and the lake to the west from this location, would be interesting! If anyone gets a chance check it out for me and maybe take some pics? wub.gif The location is here:

36°2'9" N 114°42'27" W

It would really be appreciated!!! biggrin.gif

Anyway thats my coverage of Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. Peace out and merry travels! Go see the world!

I think Arizona, Nevada and probably a few cities in California are thankful for this idiot as well, considering it provides them with electricity. tongue.gif

Nice picture though <3
