It's how their writing system works- they don't differentiate between L and R sounds- they use the same character for both. This makes it less than seamless when a foreign-loan word, like 'rock' is shoved into their writing system. It's known as Engrish rolleyes.gif

I always thought the Japanese pronounce it as 'rokku (ロック)'
