These guys are one of those bands that when you first catch glimpse, you ask yourself, "What the heck are they playing?? What kind of music is that!?...I don't know what it is, but I think I like it." That's exactly it. Well, for the sake of curiosity, they are supposably labeled as an experimental indie band. But regardless of what anybody labels or categorizes them as, the stuff that they play is simply "music", and nothing else. Still curious? Well, just think of catchy, rhythmic and sharp guitar riffs with crazy yet masterful unearthly drums, mixed together with "kawaii" soft and easy, yet unpredictable vocals and lyrics. Put them all together, and you get Deerhoof!

I respect these guys in so many ways and one reason is because they're just so humble and genuine, as a band and just people in general. On their latest single release, Fresh Born, they came up with an idea for fans to preview their latest song prior to it's release in an attempt for people to sway away from all the leaks and premature releases of the song. Man, how I wish I took part of this.. They basically allowed fans to create their own rendition of what they think the song would sound like and let them submit it to be posted in their official site for everyone to hear! Pretty cool, ey? x)

They've been in the biz for a long time with members gained, and members lost (like many other bands) and who better to describe them and their history, than themselves. Check it out!

Who is Deerhoof? huh.gif

If you haven't realized already, these guys hail from good ol' San Francisco! Represent! th_053_XD.gif kyahaha

Okay, not only does she rock a McCartney bass while singing vocals for the band, but she is just a natural performer. Even when off the bass, she's entertaining to watch! (Unlike some vocalists where they just stand in front of the mic and don't move at all..hehe) Also, you can't help but love her bright upbeat attitude, and it definitely comes through out on stage and in the music.

Epic, insightful post on an awesome band!!
My first exposure to them was on your mixtape.

By the way, the band with the cameo at the beginning of Fresh Born is 54-71. I guess they're repaying deerhoof for starring in "Ugly Pray"

Greg Saunier drums barefoot? I chalk it up to the Japanese influence. laugh.gif Performing w/o foot gear is an epidemic in the Japanese music scene. Samart singled out Natsukon of Mass Dre giving her a hard time but every band seems to have at least one member w/o shoes and it's usually the bassist > lead singer > drummer. I've been keeping stats on these type of things.... j/k

Can't wait for the sample mix!

edit: damnit! took too long with my post and taking a break watching Youtube videos before I hit "submit post"

I guess it's payback for adding his favorite female drummers to the thread b4 he could. lol.

Deerhoof are awesome. My favorite album from them is Reveille (which happens to be my username on a different forum tongue.gif). That album was my first time hearing them, and as with so many other times my first exposure to a band sorta stays close to the heart. th_053_XD.gif

Just uploaded the mix!

Man, that video was crazy! th_053_XD.gif Haha, I didn't even know who those dudes were in the beginning. I figured they were just random peeps. Perhaps 54-71 are fans of Deerhoof as well. Practically all the footage they used for that pv was addition scenes off the Fresh Born pv set.

Steve, haha yeah man, Greg's a friggin' beast! party0030.gif Ya know, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Japanese influence. He probably got the news from Satomi that the barefoot trend is a pretty big thing among many japanese indie bands, so i guess he wanted to try it out for himself. laugh.gif

What up, cipher! I didn't know you were a Deerhoof fan too! Reveille... Man, you must've been following them for a really long time now.. Right on, man.

Wow!! ohmy.gif He is totally insane! What a great drummer; even when he's going totally crazy, it's still a proper part of the song that meshes well with everyone else, which is really cool.
