I noticed a lot of age confusion in the dream! Where some people dont match up to others even though they were born around the same time, and other people who seem to have aged a lot to make roleplay make more sense in the terms of kids... I was wondering if it'd be a good idea to kind of establish something that makes everyone fit together.
For example, I aged my character Zahara according to what I saw everyone else aging. She was born around the same time as Andre and Angele, so I bumped her up to 16.. Now Esha was only 25, so I instead made her in her 30's, even though that much time hadn't passed. However, Zahara is now only four years younger then her fathers ex-fiance.. how's kid is only five, but only born a year later then Zahara. I think without an established guideline of sorts that stuff is going to get very confusing in rp. |

My personal opinion on this is that we don't really need another aging guideline; this was, as you say, mostly done just to make the ages between kits and their parents less awkward, and was arranged mostly by talking to the other players who have any kind of interaction with the characters in question and reaching a shared consensus about ages. This isn't something that is going to be done more than once, I don't think.
The kits themselves, specifically Angele, Andre and Finian, are still being aged according to the aging scheme that we established in 2009. If we hadn't fast forwarded two years but instead arrived at the year 1170 by letting two RL years pass, this is the age they would have been anyway, following that schedule. edit: Also, I can think of a specific IC incidence in which having a character age up to be nearly the same age as his mother's fiance provided for some pretty interesting/tense RP. So I wouldn't count that as a negative necessarily. |

I didnt mean it as a permanent thing. I aged Zahara accordingly to the two years, but it does seem like there needs to be some..editing? Mae for instance was 16 when she had her kid. In two irl or ic years it'd make rylie 14.. and mae 18.
Ed: but it also means that for some reason zaharas sister is SO MUCH younger then her when she logically wouldn't be. |

Well there's always going to be an inherent head-scratching, 'that looks a bit weird' aspect to any kind of accelerated aging. The way it's designed now is to get offspring to a playable age rather quickly, without letting them reach maturity too quickly. Dele did a good job of making a system that nearly everyone could agree on.
The only way to make it look "logical," as you say, would be to ask everyone to age their kits a year per year. |

Katrina, yes it has been a bit tricky figuring out the age of your kit for the "new" dream. Nor was only 10 at the time of the dream change. At first i was only going to add +2 to that, and make her 12, however, because our aging system is based off months during the first 16 years, that wouldn't have really been accurate. So, assuming 24 months had past. 10/1/11 - Nor would have turned 11 years (three months later) 1/1/12 - 12 (three months later) 4/1/12 -13 (three months later) 7/1/12 - 14 (Now it switches to 6 months at age 14.) (6 months later) 1/1/13 - 15 (6 months later) 6/1/13 -16 years of age - so it is now 1 year/year = 21 months. So she's just over 16 years old. I'm going to keep her birthday as August 1st though. It's okay if you aren't 100% accurate. 80-90% is preferred though If anyone else needs help figuring out the CURRENT age of their character, tell me how old they would be as of their last "age day" and I can work it out. Copy/pasting this in case anyone needs it:

I didn't have any trouble figuring out the age of my character, that i got just fine. The issue I was talking about is some people not aging enough. It makes it hard for some people in a group to interact when they don't know how because those characters didn't age the same. Thats why I mentioned establishing something so people know how old their characters would be now. Nothing permanent, just a base of like.. well so-and-so was 23, but i wanted to play their kid. So according to Adeles age chart I aged the kid to the appropriate age, and gave a few more years to my character so that they were raising a kid thats only three years younger then themself.
But this other so-and-so only aged their kid two years, but their siblings are aged much faster following the guidelines. I guess it just confused me on how to interact if not everyone rapid-aged the same. I know Hamlin is all of a sudden 30, and he was in his early 20's before.. So I aged Giselle accordingly. |

Don't worry how anyone else is aging their characters, so long as you are following the chart. If you think someone's character was aged way out of proportion than let us know. With adult characters it isn't such a big deal..Just assume they were older than previously expected?

Yeah... honestly, as far as adult characters go, I aged a couple of mine way more than two years. Chalse was 29 before the jump and now he's like 35, partially because he just Feels Older and partially so I can mentally justify Finian being 16.
I don't think there's really much point in fact-checking character ages unless they're either relatives or otherwise closely connected in a way that makes exact age relevant. If you want your character's age to correspond to someone else's and they made more of a jump than you did, you should talk it over with them and get it squared away. Just have fun, it's not supposed to be work. :V It'll be okay! |
