Citizens of Kasuria,

By decree of His Majesty King Callistin, son of the late King Constantine XIII and descendant of the noble and esteemed House Halla, the following statutes are now in effect regarding the restoration and preservation of Uurth's Natural Order, as ordained by the Dragon and coveted by the Primes:

1. That the restrictions dictating the rightful conduct of our herbivorous and omnivorous nobility shall heretofore extend also to privately owned businesses, insofar as regarding an appropriate tax disparity between their varying species and hybridizations and their carnivorous cousins. Taxes upon herbivores shall be raised immediately as determined by each county: 15% for omnivores, 30% for herbivores, and 50% for wyrmmes;

2. That in addition to this reasonable modification to annually owed taxes, all omnivores, herbivores, and wyrmmes shall have their wages heretofore garnished an additional 15%, 20%, and 50% respectively, per county;

3. In addition to these necessary and appropriate taxation methods, private rents and property payments upon herbivores shall be raised accordingly by 20% per county, and that this stipulation will not apply to omnivores;

4. And in addition to these taxation methods and property modifications, all future marriages between furrekind and wyrmmekind shall heretofore be considered an illegal and treasonous offense to the Crown.

Done this year of the Dragon, 1166

His Royal Majesty's Office of the Treasury

[[In the months since the new King's ascent, the rumors about marriage annulments between species in the Royal Court and the prejudice among those lesser species has been trickling through gossip circles throughout Kasuria. Now it seems the common-folk of Kasuria's small towns can no longer escape the new King's views with ignorance.]]

[On the notice in the Miner's Pick is a single word scrawled in dark, blocky letters:]

[The notice that had been previously written on has been replaced with a brand new one bearing the same message as the original, though the writing looks more angry this time around.]

[ Since a few folks have been asking, here is a rough list of species and their class, as would be considered by Nobility/Royalty for taxation purposes, marriage, etc.

-----

CARNIVORES
All Felines, most Musties (Ferrets, Weasels, Otters, Badgers, etc.), most Bats, Canines, Hyenas
etc.
...NOT necessarily everything in the order Carnivora! Please look up animal diets or make your best guess.

OMNIVORES
Most Rodents (Mice, Rats, etc.), Skunks, Swine, Monkeys, Raccoons, Possums, Civets, Foxes, Hedgehogs, Bears (except Pandas)
etc.

HERBIVORES
Rabbits, Squirrels, Fruit Bat/Flying Fox, Kangaroo/Wallaby, Lemurs, and pretty much all Ungulates (hoofed furres like Horses, Goats, Deer, Moose, Sheep, Ox, etc.)
etc.

THE LOWEST OF THE LOW
Wyrmmes, Serps, and hybrids thereof are on the bottom rung of Kasurian society.
Basically, anything with scales or "scaley-esque" features = baaaad.

MYTHICALS
According to Talzhemir, the extremely rare (FULL) Mythical species are outside of these classifications and therefore exempt.
This includes Byrddes (Phoenix), Gryffes (Gryphon), Unicorns, etc.

HYBRIDS
This causes some confusion, but that's OK - debate is good, especially IC! smile.gif Mo' Drama, mo' RP, right?

In general, it's easiest to class a hybrid by the "main" species they present: e.g. Emerson Sootlock, although related to Gryffes, is basically just a tiger with wings, and therefore ranks as a Carnivore.

If no one species is clear, then it would probably come down to local government decisions.
Perhaps it could default to the lowest species (for example, a Cat-Cow hybrid might be considered too "tainted" to be a full-ranking Carnivore, and must therefore be classed as Herbivore, regardless of how feline or bovine they appear.)

-----

Hope that helps, but if you have further questions, feel free!

(Although one great option would be to have your character ICly consult our "friendly" local Taxcat, Melor biggrin.gif
This allows for in-game resolution, and if your character is improperly classed by OOC standards, that's OK, as it is down to "human" (furre) error on an IC level.) ]

[I forgot to mention that non-wage taxes are paid every 4 months, with the next date to be mid-November (15th). Enjoy! biggrin.gif]

[Just for the reference, since I wasn't sure about foxes, I looked them up and they are in fact omnivores, not carnivores! Other players of foxes will probably need to know this.]

[I endorsed Tric's chart in the beginning, and since he took the time to make it, I think it works well enough for our purposes.

If no one is pleased with resolving confusions ICly via Melor's or "the King's" opinion, then stick with diets, because it's easily researched, known, and even if your character doesn't stick perfectly one way or another as far as personal diet, it really doesn't matter. biggrin.gif All that matters is what the King thinks. He doesn't have to be rational.

If he called canines herbivores, they'd be herbivores.

Also, this was supposed to be an IC thread, so if you have further questions, PM me, Tric or Melor.]

[So far only one character has come to Melor about the whole tax thing. He may be a douchebag, but he's still the one who will make the IC decision that affects your character's well-being. Also, he's not all evil. He might even be able to help your character.

I'd also like to point out that while it may appear to really suck having your character struggle a bit to make a living because of the new laws, it also provides a great RP opportunity to see how well your herbivore/omnivore character can manage this winter. Will he/she succumb to begging? Sleeping on benches? Knocking on doors for food? I know a lot of new people just sit around hoping RP comes to them, but for them especially this can start something really good for their character by giving them a reason to start initiating RP with strangers.

Always look on the briiiight side of life. wink.gif ]
