ok. Im not a big complainer person, especially with something as awsome as astrojax. But its just a problem ive noticed with the aquas. Every pair of Aquas ive gotten, has had a vortex broken in the first 2 days. Now granted its an easy fix with alittle super glue, granted its hard cuz the vortexes have to fit exactly right or one wont work. but anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had had this problem?

this isnt a big issue really, im not trying to make a big scene, im just curious if this is a common problem

Yeah, the first run of aquas had a slight miscalculation on the size of an inner joint piece. This made them break bad. The newest run has a thicker piece and I have been using a set for over a month now and all 3 balls are intact. Actually one of the vortex pieces chipped from impact but the core held strong. I don't know if they are still selling the first run or not, but the new shivas are holding strong! This is an awesome thing because while you can do a lot even with the busted vortexes some tricks you cant practice, like pops.

Not to mention that the friction from the string can cause melting of the PVC ball, and that'd be no bueno!!

So they do have the new-run of aquas out??? Hmmmm, I'd best be gettin my new set of Pacific Blues then smile_click.gif

But Jammer, I posted a thread about a simple mod to fix the vortexes. When I did it, they held together for like four to five months before the glue gave out. It's in this section, a few pages back. It's worth checkin out.

yeah, i would check out ferrell's fixing technique, i think it's the best one so far... (i haven't really experimented with it)

i found that electrical tape works best...that last mod i did with the tape and glitter i used no glue at all to put the vortexes back...the tape ran thru the inside of the ball and that somehow kept the vortexes in place with no application of glue whatsoever. its crazy that i came across that discovery, i had no idea the presence of tape would somehow seal that gap of air that exists between the broken vortex and the ball but it does. i used to glue them together ALL the time. that 1st run of aquas needs a lot of maintenance for that. the newer aquas are wayyyyy sturdier! i havent had mine break either and i've had them a month now too.

so i suggest next time your blues break apart just put a few strips of electrical tape instead of glue on the ball itself, rite in that area that the vortexes will go, then try putting the vortexes on and i bet u they wont ever break apart again! i dont know how it works, i just know it does! oops_click.GIF

Claudia, do you mean put the tape inside the bore or between the vortex and the bladder? Whichever way you're suggesting, I think it probably works because it really doesn't take much force to hold the sides of the vortex together because there generally is not much force working to separate them.

yes...those strips of tape i put on the balls go into the bore between the vortex and the bladder. its funny cos the sticky side is on the ball itself which is weird to me cos the tape just being there somehow keeps the vortexes from seperating even if you drop them during play. i just slide the vortexes into the bore after applying tape and the plastic vortex pieces just magically stay in place! shock_click.gif

Actually, to be a little more technical, it's friction that causes the vortex's to stay in place. When you put the electrical tape in, it reduces the diameter of the PVC balls and the vortexes are more snug in the hole. The decreased area increases the pressure the ball exerts on the vortexes, so friction keeps them in place.

Yay for nerds explaining stuff!!!
