Rules of Conduct
Like with all sites, we have our set of rules to follow by to insure that everyone has a good time here. We're family-friendly and welcome role-players of all ages, so our rules are going to sound a bit harsh, but that's so even the younger users can have a good time.
- Remember the Golden Rule and respect other players, or else the admin will beat you over the head with a fish. - We have younger players here, so please no swearing or wrongful content; we wish to keep the young ones' eyes in an unharmed state. - Constructive criticism is welcome, but don't go overboard. - We would appreciate it if you did not plagerize or copy off of books of movies. - If it's against the law, please don't mention it, okay?. - And the most important rule of all...HAVE FUN, or else. (just kidding)
Guidelines
These are the things that get edited or deleted, but you don't actually "get in trouble" for. Items are added to this list as we encounter them.
- No thread-bumping; we can see it just fine and we know it's there. - Use a clean link when posting to images or videos. - If you link something, please explain what it is we're heading to; it's better to know than to click and wish we didn't. - No L337 speak or "lazy" typing, such as 'U' for you, 'R' for are, etc. - Replies to threads that break one of he above rules are removed via laser; it was wrong to mention it in the first place, so why would it be okay to post an answer to an offensive topic?. - We welcome advice to other players, but only if it's asked for. - If you can't say anything nice, remain silent. - Do not post personal, contact or confidential information. - Your secret word is like the Ring: Keep it secret, keep it safe. - Please type in English, something we can all understand.
1. Remember the Golden Rule and respect other players.
Do not flame. Flaming is the act of unfairly disparaging a person or a person's post. It's not wrong to disagree with someone, but on AoP it is best to disagree by stating your own opinion and backing it up with fact, rather than attacking the person's character or integrity. But if they still insist, leave it at that; we don't want a full-blown argument. Do not make personal ("ad hominem", "bashing") attacks.
Do not troll. Trolling is being negative, disruptive, or discordant, or encouraging others to try and be negative, disruptive, or discordant. Age of Prophesies is intended to be a nurturing and supportive environment for creative people, families, and members from diverse backgrounds; please keep it that way, and refrain from posting unless you have something productive or positive to contribute.
Do not misrepresent yourself or mislead others into thinking things that are untrue about you as a person. You wouldn't do it in person, so please don't do it online. It's okay to use it as far as role-play is concerned (for story reasons, if your char's a thief or an assassin, etc), but for real life, please don't.
2. Please no swearing or wrongful content.
This includes cussing, insults, links to wrong sites...you know the drill. If you really must swear, don't despair and use some flair. Do what they did on several popular TV shows and come up with your own 'swear word', or use a milder form such as crud, fudge, dang, shoot, etc; it's funnier that way. As for wrongful content, please don't. We don't want to feel responsible when innocent eyes get burned away from looking at such things. We would rather keep our site rating at a G, PG, or PG-13, or T level. Anything higher and we'll have to ship you to Siberia.
3. Constructive criticism is welcome, but don't go overboard.
We welcome advice of all kinds, but if it gets to the point of nit-picking or whining, it will not be accepted or listened to. This includes advice to other members or the admin to suggest improvement. If you wish to whine, whine to your parents off-site; that's what they are there for. (No offense moms and dads, just kidding)
4. Plagerizing - it's illegal in the real world, it's illegal here.
Creativity is something everyone has, though at times it can seem tough to come up with something original. This is not an opportunity to take something from your favorite novel or movie. So don't go ahead and make that secret ranger-boy who ends up having a secret past and forseeable destiny of being a king with an awesome sword; the authors and the admin wouldn't appreciate that. However, you can be inspired by looking back on such characters and ideas, so you can simply take a little from that...as in posting a picture to show what your char looks like or what weapon he or she possesses; we can allow that much since sometimes it's hard to describe things. Just be sure you have that creator's consent before using it.
5. If it's illegal where you live, it's illegal to mention it here.
Doing so will be like being an accomplice to a crime. If your country can do it at an age where another's still waiting, just don't say anything please; we still have young people around and we're trying to set a good example for them to go by. The admin originates in the United States, so we would appreciate the gesture of following the rules here. You're our guests, so please follow our rules.
6. Remember that this is a game and enjoy it!
Once you join this site, feel free to start anywhere your character originates. Feel free to let others know of the site too; the more the merrier. Once new members join, welcome them in here, since you were once a new person yourself. Please be sure to follow these rules and guidelines to insure that each person has a good time role-playing on this site. Don't force yourself to role-play if you don't feel like it, but don't stand on the sidelines and complain that you're bored; that violates or no-spam rule. So please have fun, enjoy, and follow our rules, or the admin and moderators will have to beat you over the head with a fish.
