Physical description of character (at least one paragraph):Melanie is quite short, standing at about 5'4", and is very thin, sometimes unaturally so. She has long, blonde hair that goes down to her chest, and striking, bright blue eyes. Her eyes are often one of the first things people notice about her and often reflect her mood, their shine can dull if she's upset about something.
Mel tends to dress in plain clothes, and little, if any, basic make up. One of the other things that attract people's attention is her accent, she is very proud of her brassy London accent, and uses it openly.

Personality (one good paragraph; at least five sentences):Melanie is a strong girl, by nature of the circumstances she's come from, that's what she has become. To the outside world, she appears to be hard as stone, as though nothing can hurt her. Most of the time she is alone, as most people don't generally choose to talk to her. She is quiet but feisty, knows what she wants and sticks to it.
But on the inside, the inside that people rarely see, is hurt and vunerable. She is beaten down by the things that have happened to her and the things she's seen and done. She's hurt that no one wants to talk to her and longs for a friend or someone to share a bond with. But she finds it very hard to trust people. She hates herself for what she's become and the uncaring facade she holds, but knows of no way to change. She deeply cares about her brothers back in London and really wants to help them.
History (two or more paragraphs):
Melanie Black was born in London to Terry and Joanne Black on 4th March 1988. When she was 7 she gained two twin brothers, Harry and Jacob. She was a performer from the outset, she took ballet from the tender age of three, and was soon signed up to an agency. She did Annie, The Sound of Music, and at 9 she played the little girl in The Witches of Eastwick.
But it was when Mel was 10 that the change began. One evening in September, she caught her mother having an affair with a friend of the family named Martin. They begged not to say anything, so she dutifully kept quiet. But in the end, the truth came out, and her mother ran off with Martin.
Mel and her brothers stayed with their father, but the hurt and the anger and the betrayal of the woman he loved was too much for him to handle, and he had a nervous breakdown, leaving him mentally unstabel and unable to look after his family. So Mel, Harry and Jacob were taken into Care.
And it was there that the anorexia began. With no one to talk to who understood, playing mother to the boys, and all the confusion on the last year, Mel felt like she had lost control of life, and she wasn't sure. She liked the control she felt she had when she didn't eat, and no one seemed to notice when her plate went back full, they were too busy. But after two years, it made her so ill she ended up in hospital.
Over time she made a recovery, but not completely, she still has relapses when she is stressed or upset. By some miracle, she managed to carry on performing, doing some less well known plays and after keeping at ballet, she joined the ensemble of the Royal Opera House, where she was spotted by ballet instructor of Addison, Jenni Frost. It was during one of the plays that one of the old has beens of the profession taught her how to smoke and sghe's been hooked ever since. She slowly began to drift, staying out until the early hours with the cast (they didn't mind her tagging along, so she took it as acceptance), drinking and smoking. The Care home never noticed her coming home late.
Now that she's at Addison, she's trying to get back on track, and doesn't drink (much) anymore, and is trying to quit smoking. She hasn't spoken to her mother for eight years, she isn't allowed contact with her dad, but she often speaks to her brothers on the phone and writes to them.

Melanie was sat cross-legged on her bed, the mobile phone held against her ear. She was talking to her brothers in England. She let a rare smile grace her lips as she heard them fighting over the phone. Jacob won, he always was the rougher of the two.
"Hi...I'm fine, how are you getting on?.....I miss you to, every day..." She spoke with her strong London accent. Her smile faded, the topic had turned to mum. The boys still saw her, it was their decision, but she wanted nothing more to do with her, after what she'd done.
"Well, I'm sure you'll have fun....No, do not give her my love....you know why.....I won't listen to this! You're too young to remember what happened, you have no idea!" She sighed, this was how it always went, they understood most of her life...but this was one part they'd never understand. It was her fault her life turned out the way it did.
"Look I've got a class, I have to go. I'll ring you soon....I love you to, bye!" She hung up, grabbed her bag and ran off to ballet. It upset her, being so far away from them, they were her only family, but she had to focus on her future as well.
