It was a little after midnight and nothing stirred in Hogwarts, not even a mouse. Oh wait… What’s that? Something was stirring? And that something went by the name of Emaline Acker, or Emay for short. But why was she stirring in the midst of the night? Simple- she was hungry and looking for some food.

But that wasn’t the only reason the Gryffindor was walking through the halls of Hogwarts. Her thoughts were the primary reason, in truth. It wasn’t as if she was troubled and was an insomniac and those thoughts kept her awake at nights- she a relatively good life, at least in her eyes. But tonight she had just started thinking about... Oh! About everything. And once a door like that is opened, it is hard to shut. This happened every so often to Emay, her thoughts stopping her from sleeping that is, so she had a bit of experience with this. One could use sleeping draughts, of course, but Emay didn’t like them that much. Whenever she had taken them in the past, she always woke up with a minor headache. Personally, she preferred roaming the halls of Hogwarts to inflicting pain upon herself. And that’s what would happen if she took the draught. She had never liked pain; it scared her truthfully. Not pain itself, but the result of pain. A cut could get infected and kill you. A broken appendage could make you handicapped for your whole life if not treated properly. Migraines could turn out to be tumors.

Hogwarts was different at night when not so many people were around. Sure, a lot of times throughout the evening the halls were empty as well with students in their dorms, but still Hogwarts was different at night and it wasn’t only the lack of students. It was just the atmosphere; as if the whole world was silent. A world that Emay preferred over the loud days that filled Hogwarts. Why couldn't the students sleep the whole day? It wasn't that she disliked people; Emay just disliked the noise of people. And the thoughts that they caused in her mind. For that was the truth, wasn’t it? If she spoke to people less and overheard their conversations less, she would most likely be able to sleep a lot easier. Oh! Why were people such fools to always speak what came into their mind? That afternoon had been like usual; Victoire and Alyssa were hanging out with Teddy and Lucien and Emay had been left alone. She was used to it by now and wasn’t jealous or anything; she had just been bored when she went into the Library, hoping to find someone to talk to. Instead she had run into some Slytherin’s and nearly became involved in an impromptu duel. It had only been stopped by the librarian’s interference. She had returned to Gryffindor Tower and ever since then, thoughts had filled her head regarding the bloodlines and why it really mattered. It’s as if they have never heard of Hitler, she thought. But then realized that some of the purebloods most probably never had. Ridiculous! It’s their world too!

Turning into a hallway, which was almost entirely bare save one painting, Emay walked towards the painting, a specific one of a fruit bowl. She tickled the pear and the painting swung open and several expectant houselves welcomed her and moments later, offering her plates of warm milk and cookies. It seemed to Emay that the houselves had had several nighttime wanderers visiting them in the past. Well, at lest they're prepared, she thought as she bit into a chocolate chip cookie.
